LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Kind Of Icky

I feel kind of icky posting these first two links, but here is the ALCS roster situation for the Astros. Here is the ALCS roster situation for the Yankees. This is the Padres list. The Phillies also have a roster.

New York’s alright if you like saxophones.

Jon Heyman says that Jeremy Reed is out of here. I see no word from the official site, but Jeff Fletcher retweeted this. It is probably true. At least it’s not a Bob Nightengale tweet. Our local write up can be found here.

This link is some more post mortem weeping, this time by Andrew Friedman, about the Dodgers losing.

I’ve been seeing this kind of link for a few days. I can’t see what difference fan voting about who will win could possibly make, but if you are into that sort of thing … This is the NLCS poll.

This is the free agent list for corner outfielders for those who do not trust Moniak and Adell.

I am still waiting to see Fangraphs post their salary estimates for the free agents. Here are the 2022 ones, which will be somewhat helpful.

Job Postings

Boston Red Sox- Multiple openings.

San Francisco Giants- Multiple openings.

Does it matter now that Texas has a good manager, and we still have Phil Nevin. We shall see.

Gold Glove candidate and carried the team offensively for a part of the season…
Arte saw this coming and wisely nixed that Dodgers trade!

Oh wait…. nope, but someone might point the same high pitched whining at you.

Ummmmm….. feel the warm cozy squeeze as the evil horrible Astros, the only team in the MLB who was cheating or using sticky stuff in 2017, slowly suffocate the Yankees. Let the tears flow like the mighty Amazon River…. full of anacondas.

The worst part is, if the Guardindians had beat the Yanks, then their fans (ESPN) could join in the chorus of women’s lamentations coming from Doyer fans about how short series play offs aahhwwwnt fayyyyer and are bad for baseball cause 111 wins mean nothing (accept a bye) and the bye actually hurt and excuseescusescuse. Changes must be made!

But the Skanks “won” the chance to get chewed on by the evil duplicitous Astros who were absolutely positively the ONLY team in the MLB, and more specifically the largest market team, to use the fact that there is a TV showing them what pitch is coming next in their locker room to help them get a few hits. This was also the ONLY reason they won. So evil…. I wonder if Andrarte secretly owns the Astros with his cabal of coke snorting stripper sniffing Christian billboard salesmen?

Pulling for the NL now. Only sad that both AL teams can’t lose.

Qualifying offer of 19.65 is huge. Yankees vs Astros is unwatchable for me. Both teams stole signs, both teams have a Darth Vader cloak making it easy to not watch. I am rooting for the Padres to with the World Series but given that the Phillies are on a “Mission from God” playoff run that is difficult to see happening. With the Dodgers and Braves and Jays gone this is a very boring Post Season for me.

Jeremy Reed is gone, no shit Sherlock. A team that was under 30% OBP, leads all of MLB in strikeouts, can’t hit the other way against shifts and strikes out at close to 30% is not good on a resume. His exit was long in coming.

“If it’s not broke-don’t fix it” PTP said about a 6 man starting staff. Winning only 70 some games is not broke?

Angels were top 10 in pitching this year. It isn’t broke, the hitting was

Without Ohtani the team was smack in the middle of the pack. It might not be ‘broke’ but it’s no where near excellent except for one or two pitchers (arguably Sandy and Detmers were quite good as well).

And…. you just said something that can be said for all but maybe two teams….

I agree. But I don’t think those teams are saying their pitching doesn’t need fixing.

Who said our pitching doesn’t need fixing? Who said our pitching is broken, and why? Does saying the pitching isn’t broke mean you have no intention of improving it? Was PTP even talking about the pitching or the idea of a six man rotation? If so, source? Do we eat the nits we pick around here or just throw them on a jar? Do we over extrapolate at CtPG?

Even the teams with THE BEST pitching go out and try to get more/better pitching. Also the sky is blue. Most teams with top ten pitching don’t come out and try to publicly caveat their way into convincing the world their pitching’s actually broken. Dirt tastes like dirt. So what’s your point? What did you, as a grown ass man, actually think should have been said about a six man rotation that wasn’t said by our vanilla as f*** FO?

News Flash! Everyone steals signs, some are more egregious than others. It’s been 3yrs since the Mike Fiers squealing alert and the Astors have only gotten better. Talent does weigh out.

Happy Gallegos is gone. Reed was not to blame for the crappy hitters Perry added to the team.

No! The Astros were the only team cheating! And the Angels have never had players use steroids! And someday me and David Eckstein and David Fletcher are gonna have a catch and they are gonna be my best friends and they will tell me, in confidence, that I could have been an MLB player too! Then we’re gonna join forces and make Arte come out and publicly account for stuff we lay squarely at his feet! Then I will be elected Lord of the Shire!

Will it be Nevin’s choice for hitting coaches or will he be told whom to choose?

With teams that have a collaborative, intelligent, high-performing franchise – yes the manager would own the decision.

However, we are the Angels.

The head groundskeeper will be making the hiring decision.

And “Club Rock” that Arte built for him is stunning! Not sure if any of you have ever seen it. Arte when he first bought the Angels was at the stadium late one night and went down to the grounds crew. Arte, who did a lot of groundskeeping in his early days has a fondness for those guys. He went into the office and saw a 20 year old couch, no TV, and a terrible looking office.
The next road series, Arte had a contractor come in and renovate the entire place. It’s on par with the diamond club now. So we nicknamed it Club Rock, as that’s where he would hang out if he stayed late at the ballpark.

When I worked security we couldn’t have our phones, but all I can say is it’s crazy cool in there, and those guys deserve it. One of the truly GOOD things Arte did there.

lol i had to do a deep dive and found this, 2015 oc register article, paywall be damned :

“11:30 p.m.: The grounds crew retreats to Club Rock, the little-known clubhouse beneath the right field rockpile. Three seasons ago, owner Arte Moreno funded this major-league-style locker room/dining area/man cave centered by a 70-inch flatscreen and the seven leather recliners that surround it.”

Those guys do a lot of great shit including donating their time ( some of Art’s money to fix up surrounding community high school baseball fields that are in disrepair.

I know the GC doesn’t get a lot of love but these guys are definitely a bright spot for this team. Plus they taught Cole Irvin everything he knows.
