Angels drop rubber match on scorching Sunday matinee

Angels 1 Astros 9

102 degrees at game time. The weather was hot, the Angels offense is not. 2017 Jared Weaver could probably throw a no-hitter agains this Angels lineup, but today it was Jose Urquidy who absolutely owned them for 7 innings.

Tucker Davidson had the ball for the Halos and the good news was that he had things on lock down after the 2nd inning (at least until the Altuve bomb in the 7th). The bad news? It was too late. The Astros had a 5 run second inning and let’s face it – 5 runs is overkill against an Ohtani-less lineup. I have decided I don’t like Ohtani days off, but he earned it after that fantastic pitching performance last night. So fine.

There really were not many highlights in this game for Angels fans – except for this garbage time home run by Mr. Mike Trout.

Yay! No shutout!!!

The Angels scored a total of 5 runs in this 3 game series. Bleh.

things I don’t quite like:

Judge now with 54. I guess I’m being a fuddy-duddy …gotta look up the origin of that!… but I’d like to see Maris keep the real record.

Pujols “remembering” how to hit. Yeah….it’s “interesting”.

Seattle now with a 5 1/2 game wild card cushion.

Judge seems like a Troutish likeable reserved guy on a very hateable team.
I have rooted against him for a while but started to embrace some of his great abilities recently.

meanwhile, in Rocket City….

Ben Joyce, he of the 105 mph fastball, had an interesting first outing on August 6th, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits in 1 inning. Since then he’s been pretty dang good, used sparingly, has pitched an additional 8 innings, zero runs, 4 hits, 10 Ks.

We have to give Perry two more years to see what his drafts amount to.

Has good fashion sense however.
Nice suits that he wears.

I wonder if Mike Trout when he retires will hold the record for solo shot Homeruns.

I think Pujols holds the record

You mean meaningless home runs when the team is out of contention or when the team is losing in a blowout

When Trouty went down with injury (Back) he was hitting .270 and through yesterday and his return he is still hitting .270. By the end of September, I hope that both Shohei and Mike end up with 35-40 HRs a piece. Like to see Fletch go on a hitting streak and Squid get his average up and over .200. I missed Sat. and Sun. games and was not a slave to having to watch this team on TV, felt good actually. Will be here tonight as I miss watching some Baseball with my favorite players. I just hope to not see Duffy in the lineup and leading off.

I am sick of Gramps mashing for another team after he sucked for us so long, plus giving Arturo an excuse for not improving the roster. Nothing sums up the Angels recent failure better than this.

I’m watching the rest of the season to see if Ohtani gets to 40 HRs, 100 RBIs and 200 Ks. Voters love round numbers. I think if he gets those, he has a good shot at the MVP. And for Judge not to eclipse the 61 record.

Also if Trout can reach 40 HRs too. It’s not totall impossible, though less likely.

Sadly, Judge cranked another one and playing in that band-box, he should eclipse 61.

Of all the Yankees, to me, Judge is the most respected one. He’s a good guy and doesn’t run his mouth. Hope the Giants sign him but looking like he will stay. .

It would be cool if the Giants signed him AND he lost out on the MVP. Anytime the Yankees fans don’t get something they want a baby angel is born.

I keep reading about the “band box” on HH, but Angel Stadium has a higher park factor than Yankee Stadium according to Statcast, ESPN, FantasyPros, etc. The 3 year rolling number shows 5 more home runs have been hit at Anaheim vs. New York.

So are we to discount all Angel home runs at home as “cheap” or “biased” ?

It fluctuates by the year, home pitching staff and overall makeup of the team.. just so many factors. But a guy like Judge hits em to all fields in all parks anyway,, I’m sure the park helps more than hurts, he’ll get the mark.

I don’t know how people were able to stay in the stands and watch that game in this heat. I just got in last night from a 2 day fishing trip out at San Clemente Island , and it was hot on the water, it had to be broiling in the stadium.

Lol, it was a real test of endurance after we got in a 5-0 hole in 2nd inning.

It was amazing, I limited out on dorado (mahi-mahi) and got a bluefin tuna and some rock fish.

Did you see that line up? Sorry, it hasn’t been all that long and I’m not even on the Perry sucks bandwagon really I feel, but that’s on him at the end of the day (sans Arte). This is potentially one of the weakest lineups in the modern era minus Trout and the bucks got to stop somewhere.

I made a comment about it in the game thread and yes it was pathetic really.

And yet, if it just had a career average Walsh, a career average Rendon, a career average Stassi, and an Adell who can just kind of hit…..

Did Trout put the stupid hat on after his HR?

I don’t mind HR celebrations but when down by a grand slam plus, they just seem pretty sad.

I was there today. It was a barn burner in the stands. It was a snooze fest for the game. I really think if Duffy gets that hard hit grounder at third the whole game changes. The bottom half of our lineup was under the mendoza line Yikes it didn’t look like an MLB team on the field today.

I think next year when (if) I buy my 10 game pass they need to clearly mark Ohtani off days before the season starts. I blame the heat though. We had them right where we wanted them if it had just stayed 90.

Well, THAT is never going to happen. If Arte still owns the team there is NO WAY he will allow any game-day sales to drop because Ohtani is out of the lineup for an off day.

Also… this is a stupid unicorn piss idea.

I love that the Arte hate is at the point that dumbshit ideas that can’t really be executed and no one has ever even tried are one more reason Arte is the midpoint of the axis of evil cause he would never do them.

Lol. This was complete tongue in cheek sarcasm. Just bad luck we knew going in that the Sun game was going to be a likely stinker with Ohtani pitching the prior night,

Im not paying close enough attention. I think we have 28 games left. Can we win 12 of those to get to 70 wins? I would say no.
