Angels send Thor to Philly after all

Noah Syndergaard is heading to the Phillies despite what news outlets said just an hour ago. He will be with Marsh again.

Mickey fits well for Disneyland

This is a significant trade as it jettisons a rental for something. Mickey is an outfielder, so it now obvious who will be playing the OF now that Marsh is gone. Hopefully he can take on CF.

The other prospect is Jadiel Sanchez.

2 OF

Sanchez is another OF, and one that is far younger than Mickey. Maybe HE is the CF of the future.

The trade deadline is now passed, but some more trades may be announced shortly as they are finalized. Altogether, if we see this as a 2 for 3, it is much easier to swallow, even though Marsh was my 3rd favorite current Angel.

However, considering Mickey’s not so stellar MLB performance, this may go down as one of the worst trade deadlines in recent years for the Angels.

Only time will tell.

Perry gets a B+ grade for dumping $59M in salary obligations.

The players he acquired move the grade to a C.

The Padres are a small market team and their owner is committed to winning. It must be nice….

Sanchez has shuttled between rookie ball and low A for two seasons. He’s more of a project than prospect.

Thor and D-Cell were salary dumps

That only benefits the team if Arte invests that $7 million or so into next year’s team. Had we paid some of Thor’s salary we might’ve gotten a real prospect back not just AAA depth.

Yeah odds are its just paring down losses on 2022 and won’t be re-distributed forward.

It’s been discussed some on here. Attendance is down. Real attendance is probably WAY down. It was down last year with some games lost to Covid. 2020 was a total loss. This year also lost some games to the strike.

So many folks have wished Arte would lose money cause “that’ll show him”, and it will, but at least in the short term I think we’re gonna see some tightening of the wad…. then maybe even a sale to a huge corporate tight wad. Fun.

But maybe we’ll luck out and get sold to some secret drug dealer front owners like the Padres have.

But for now? Hurray, Arte’s getting his comeuppance! Enjoy Squid at short again next year…

Gah I wish the FO could just burn the whole roster down.

I doubt Arte looks at the 2023 budget from that perspective.

More of a salary dump than anything. Kind of short sighted IMO.

We did get a guy drafted first overall at one point. Not bad for 3 mo the of a high cost mid rotation arm.

Mickey Moniak’s K% in AAA was 28%. He’ll fit right in. 101 Ks in 365 ABs.

Honestly, Thor was never going to bring back anything decent. A rental and no longer a power pitcher. Moniak was just a toss in.

His MLB numbers are limited and have been just okay at best. His MILB numbers are good but he is 26 years old so it is time for him to move up from being a prospect.

WOW

The Braves pulled off a massive buzzer-beater just before the deadline, acquiring closer Raisel Iglesias from the Angels in exchange for pitching prospect Tucker Davidson and righty Jesse Chavez, reports Robert Murray of FanSided (Twitter link). Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets that the Braves will pay the remainder of Iglesias’ contract — a four-year, $58MM deal that covers the 2022-25 seasons.

I expect him to be good on a competitive team. Feels like he’s good when the juice is flowing, bad when its not a save situation or the team sucks and nothing matters.

Never said he wasn’t. I just think he gives up too many long balls. Both with the Reds and with us. Just wasn’t a fan of giving him a 4yr deal.

How does he stack up for HR/9 vs the other MLB closers this year?

Any idea?

Rallymanatee

Of the closers who have more saves than Iggy, only Josh Hader (1.8 yikes!) and Liam Hendricks (1.26) have the same or higher HR/9 rate. So I guess Iggy is up there. Pagan, Trivino, and Sewald also have higher HR/9 rates but have fewer saves.

So in essence, it was Thor and Marsh for O’Hoppe, Moniak and Sanchez.

It’s a good deal for both. Don’t mind this return from Perry at all and actually makes me feel better if Moniak plays right now. We can afford giving Moniak ABs since the alternative is just as stinky.

Cowboy26

Really? we better hope that Moniak finds an elixir. Cause Sanchez looks like just a throw in. he’s 21 year old outfielder at low A with a .286 OBP. Hell our system is burdened with a shit ton of these types of prospects. We Would have been better off just getting a couple of orders of cheese steaks to feed Perry and our fat ass coaches.

Might be tough to calculate since Marsh and Thor have an established MLB stat line and of the other three, only one has limited MLB experience.
