LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Injured Mike Trout

The injured Mike Trout went on the ten day injured list with left rib inflammation. He will play in the World Baseball Classic next spring and will be the captain of Team USA. Monday brought the return of Phil Gosselin, who the Angels claimed off waivers. Arol Vera had a three hit night for the 66ers, including a homer and a triple. Zach Neto says he’s a “swaggy player.” The Angels drafted Ben Joyce of the 105.5 MPH fastball yesterday.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is officially investigating the MLB antitrust exemption.

The Rangers and Kumar Rocker agreed on an under slot bonus for $5.2 Million. The Orioles selected Jackson Holliday with the first pick overall.

Chris Sale was hit by a comebacker and suffered a broken left pinky finger.

Here is the American League All Star starting lineup. Here is the National League All Star starting lineup. If the All Star Game is tied after nine innings they will decide it with a home run derby.

BTW the ASG flyover is at 5:00. Supposed to be a group of planes from the test wing at Edwards. I’ll watch that, and Shohei’s AB, then scope out a movie or something.

My dad took me up there once – SR71 was flying around (back in the day) … he took some photos with his Kodak 110 film … a dude with a machine gun came out and took the camera. Weeks later the photos and camera arrived at our house … the images that they let us keep – the SR71 looked like a fruit fly on the 3×5 photographs. 😂

Fun fact—the SR-71 was built with titanium imported from the USSR.

And then the plane was sent to spy on the USSR.

Cool! You are so right. I worked there and every time we delivered one of the bombers to the Air Force, we’d all get the message 0900 outside to convene as the pilots would do a fly over, tip of the wings and away out to Edwards or Whiteman AF Base. Now, the B1B’s would set off car alarms in the Plant 42 parking lot. Buzz our trailers too. Loud and proud. Fortunate to see some SR-71s come in and deploy the chutes.

Arte wasn’t the owner. Plain and simple. Thank Goodness for Adam Kennedy and Scott Speizio. A couple of players playing out of their minds. Pitching ultimately won it. It was destiny. Can’t mess with that. I’ll be dead before they win another one of ever.

But frankly (dont call me Shirley) , I cant criticize Arte as an owner from 2003 to 2009. I’d take that Owner any day of the week over now. New team Owner Arte spend equivalent to what Cohen did this year with the Mets and hit big on most of his signings.

Its only when they starting thinking they’re smarter than the their ops guys that that we start paying the price.

2002 happened because of great drafts and home grown players that were developed by the Organization. And then Lackey and KRod both happened to be ready on the farm to bolster the pitching staff. It was all great timing.

Compare that to the current farm and player development and there is no comparison.

Always admired this about Lyman….

The 1978 season started off poorly for Bostock; he batted .150 for the month of April. Bostock met with the team’s management and attempted to return his April salary, saying he had not earned it. The team refused, so Bostock announced he would donate his April salary to charity.
“He came into my office and told me he was reluctant to take his salary,” Angels’ general manager Buzzy Bavasi recalled. “He said, ‘I’m not doing my job.”

You won’t see any players doing that with the way baseball is now.

To those that say, “Arte spends at least! If he goes, the replacement could be much worse!” I reply, it doesn’t matter what he spends at the end of the day. What’s the phrase? “Scoreboard”. That’s all the matters. Scoreboard.

I mean, I also believe sportsmanship matters to but, that doesn’t fit into my post. 🙂

I liken it to a Sports Car. Arte has spent a ton of money on a luxury sports car. It looks amazing. Then he goes to arco and puts in 87 unleaded. Gas is what makes the car go and what Arte is putting into his sports car after buying it, isn’t going to make it run anywhere close to how it should. Yes Trout, Ohtani, Rendon signings look good, but when you are the first owner to fire your scouts, minor leaguers have to come and criticize your treatment of them relative to other owners, and the best baseball minds would never work for you because they know how you treat people, the team just isn’t going to go anywhere. I truly believe we will never know how good Perry is until he’s actually in a position to be surrounded by talent in the FO and have similarly talented scouts. Eppler and Jerry certainly appear to be doing better w/o Arte than with him. Arte is the problem for sure, and I for sure would take an owner that would spend less if it means Arte is out.

Eppler should the Mets have a 290 million dollar payroll ( second behind the Doyers) and he inherited a farm system that wasn’t completely barren.

Reply to  Cowboy26

Mets had one of worst farm systems in the majors in 2019-20, although they did begin trending up before Eppler got there.

I am curious if the Mets payroll should be considered more “efficient” than ours:. For example, Lindor, for his 30+ million, hasn’t necessarily been more productive than Rendon, for example. Good deal of money locked up in a handful of players, some of whom are badly underperforming, or, at least, not as available (YMMV as to who exactly are “wasted,” though.) By a similar token, one could say that Eppler had a large payroll here, too. The difference, I suppose, is that now he can add more to the payroll to get around some of the dead contracts, something that seems to have been a non-option here.

I’d hardly suggest that these make him a “good” GM, but they do suggest that he was not as bad here as we’d believed, that is all.

Cowboy26

The Mets have a good deal of money locked up in more than just a handful of players. The Mets added 70 million in payroll in this year alone ( 80 million in CBT calcs ) that went to 8 new players. They have 15 players making over $7,000,000 dollars this year and of those 15 , 9 are getting salaries over $10,000,000 in 2022.

When did the Angels have a payroll even remotely like that here?

First and foremost is getting Trouty back to playing baseball. After that I declare myself in the camp of those who say he is injury prone, whether or not it is physical or mental.

Have you ever thought that Arte hired the wrong people to be GM? Well, I have. So let us just check it out. One was recently named President of a Baseball League of Amateurs; one has his team on a winning streak of eleven games is it; and another one has his team in first place. Damn we sure do hire dummies. I openly apologize to Jedi for being so wrong about him, Eppler I never said anything bad about, and I still do not care for Reagins but do wish him well at his new post.

It’s not like I have gone easy on Arte Moreno though because I still think he is involved to much in day-to-day things that are the people he hires jobs to do. Arte Moreno is the problem with the Angels. Not the GM’s, not the Manager’s, not the Player’s, not the Coaches either, just Arte Moreno. Everything starts and stops with him. No Scouting or Player Development? Arte Moreno. Issues of drugs in the Angels system, Arte Moreno. Minor Leaguers not eating proper or being able to afford housing or even getting paid, Arte Moreno. Collecting player’s as if they were Baseball Cards, Arte Moreno. I am not saying he is cheap; you decide for yourselves that question. Arte Moreno is the guy that does the hiring of people at positions that as a Blogger I think I can do better, but in Arte’s case I know most of you here couldn’t do any worse.

We can’t teach kids to play better if we don’t have the proper teachers, can’t draft better if you don’t have people who know how to evaluate platers, can’t win if you are the owner and do not have the best people in place to run an effective organization, and you flat out are stupid if you refuse to come out of the ether when it comes time to dismiss the idiots at the top because you believe they know what they are doing.

No more ranting today by me. Have a great day and enjoy the game tonight and Go American League! Wait I almost forgot, but really, a Homerun Derby rather than extras? One good thing about extra innings is you can get everyone in the game easier. Robert Manfred really believes he is on the cutting edge and really hates the game of Baseball and is really a fool. Enjoy.

Mike is not the kind of guy to openly complain about the team’s direction or how it is being run etc. But what he can do instead of voicing his frustration to the media is to take these stretches of time off…

the current plight of the Angels is certainly bringing out the mocking worthless assholes.
And fuck Dylan Hernandez/LAT Times article today too.

Truth hurts – i’m not laughing. A sad state of affairs when i’m more embarrassed by the Angels than I am by:

Arizona State football program today (scandal, everyone left, and an abandoned Pac10)
Lakers with all the Lebron/Westbrook and consistent Laker soap opera
Coyotes without a home, playing in a college arena for next few years

I don’t want to see Arte sell (it can always get worse) but he needs to think about leaving a legacy of winning instead of a legacy of hitting his budget target.

I mean, I personally am waiting to see what happens with Perry. I am like everyone else, I have no idea if he’s actually got more scouts than two years ago, etc. I’m also not gonna go with two year old 2020 Covid season info from a failed prospect as my baseline for what’s happening in the FO/System. On the 5 different times people posting the same thing – the GDT structure here and the lack of a Z button (index to next newest comment) make it such that we cannot see if someone else has posted the same thing very easily. The threads get truncated with a “see more posts” link at the bottom, alleviating the ability to “CTRL-F” to see if someone else already had “my original thought.”

The intention is to have fun here and people jump in – don’t know what’s already been said and they post it. I even say the same dumb comments I post here out loud at the ballpark – occasionally people chuckle, some don’t.

My opinion – keep up the repetitive posts – we are all here to have fun – if someone wants to say something they think is funny and unique – let them.

If it’s supposed to be a site where we’re all serious and stuff – let me know. I’ll submit my resignation immediately since I’m not so serious about stuff much of the time especially as relates to my leisure activity – sports.

I hope you can get past this “bash-the-site and everyone on it” mentality. It’s a great place even with the jokesters and snark. Sandwiched in-between is some deep baseball discussion. Remember the outer coating around the snark and seriousness is a deep love for our team.

Well said comment DD. My multiple attempts at steering any thread from a this player sucks this much to something I find funny certainly has been a Herculean task. Lots of negative nancies and Debby downers

Anyway I’m going to enjoy the ASG.

The group think of negativity as our team continues to implode, like I’ve said multiple times want to try something new?? I get I’ve gone against the grain.

If we don’t laugh, we’ll cry. I’d prefer to joke.

Idk man. I guess i’ve just reached complete apathy. It’s obviously not going to be fixed any time soon, barring a miracle.

It honestly is hilarious to me that we’ve fucked(July) it up for this long with the talent we’ve had at the top.

Maybe i’m just moving beyond rabid fandom. Idk.

I have also reached apathy. And I’ve been a fan for over 50 years, including the early ’70s and the ’90s.

Eh. Don’t take the flack to heart. It pretty much boils down to “why does that team that isn’t my favorite team to suck off have good things? I no likey.”

Imagine feeling bad for guys that signed contracts to make millions of their own free will.

Trout had his opportunity to leave, and Ohtani could have signed anywhere.

They’re just always mad they have to stay up to watch them play.

Sure, what the MSM does is basically wonder why the ugly girl has a car when the hot chick, who is always getting rides from guys anyway, could be given 3 cars.

But I think, rather than let this unite us in hatred for the MSM Baseball East gangbang we should probably be as negative as possible about every aspect of our team as often and as loudly as we can…. like piranhas working a wounded cow down to the bones. Because fan is short for fanatic and everybody knows every great success was built on constant, unrelenting, even semi-fictional negativity.

YES WE CAN’T!

WTH is a “shaggy” player? Oh please Nero don’t be a douche….

You don’t throw 105MPH and not snap a muscle or ligament. Over/under on when Joyce will have TJS?

Trout’s ribs looked fine when he was making the rounds on the field before the HRD. He’s played in 79 of 92 games thus far – not too many more missed games before he gets to wear the “injury prone” tag

I thought I read that he has already had TJS…
