LA Angels Memorial Day Links

Kurt Suzuki is OK after taking a baseball to the neck on Saturday. Blah blah blah will the Angels bail on Anaheim now that there is no stadium deal?

Giants manager Gabe Kapler will skip the national anthem going forward, at least until he feels “better about the direction of our country.” He may make an exception for Memorial Day, though. The Orioles outrighted Anthony Bemboom to Triple-A Norfolk after he cleared waivers. Sam Selman is up from AAA now. He’s with the Athletics.

Buttrey, 0 runs in 10 of his 12 appearances, only 10 hits allowed, 6 hits in the only 2 appearances where he allowed runs. Only 5 k’s but only 3 walks, only 12.1 innings…WHIP 1.05

I ran some stats through Fangraphs to look further into the bullpen and the BP was already showing signs at the beginning of May and imploded the last few weeks. I looked at some night and day differences. I think the offense will hold up once everyone gets healthy and going, but the BP is a mess right now. I looked at ERA for 7th and 8th innings and that’s been a huge area where the losses are coming from, besides Iglesias blown saves. Due to the money spent on relief, it may be time to hit the panic button and make a trade.

5/1 – 5/14 [includes 5 games vs ChW (2) & TB(3)]
Pitching: #2 ERA, #8 Relief-ERA, #24 HHB%, #19 R-HHB%, #15 HR/9 #26 R-WHIP

5/15 – 5/29 [includes 4 vs Toronto and rest Oak (7) & Tx (5)]
Pitching #22 ERA, #25 R-ERA, #10 HHB%, #1 R-HHB%, #6 R-HR/9, #6 R-WHIP

R=Relief

-BREAKING!-

Angels somehow manage to “lose” flight to New York. This may be the first time in history that an MLB team manages to be defeated by a plane flight.

You forgot the PLAY DEH KIDZZZ! mantra that appears every time the team swoons, because we all know all our MiLB players are future Cy Young and MVP winners!

Unless of course they have already earned a cool nickname, then they’re CAN’T MISS!

Keith Law’s first MLB mock draft of 2022 has Angels taking Gabriel Hughes RHP Gonzaga “sitting 94-95 mph and bumping 97 mph, and works low in the zone with the heater to get groundballs. It’s a complicated delivery with effort, but he’s thrown strikes this year”comment image

MLB Mock: 13. Angels: Cooper Hjerpe, LHP, Oregon State (No. 32)
After selecting pitchers with each of their 20 picks a year ago, the Angels are the favorite to be the first team to grab an arm in 2022. Hjerpe’s combination of metrics, polish and performance make him a candidate to reach the big leagues quickly, which fits their needs.

BPA in the draft always, regardless of position. If there’s no clear cut BPA, then take a position of “need” in the organization.

It’s how Baseball seems to work, but I believe we win the series with both NY and Phil.
The Blowpen tightens up and one starter gives up a whole lot of runz.

Trouty vs Judge and Trouty vs Harper are going to draw fans and both series are going to be close except for one or two games.

My big hope is that Joe doesn’t pull any of his normal running out lineups with guys resting. Kindergarten time is over, no more naps and playing games when we do not have the depth to hold guys out of the lineup. Kept Walsh in the lineup against everyone. Give Duffy and Wade time at 3b and some each at 2b with Renny, especially in later innings.
Also Ward makes a huge difference with just his showing up in the line up. I believe we need a good showing in June to show we are real.

So based on the above, people should only speak out if:

A. They can directly affect politicians
B. If their city has no problems

🤔

And these statements were made on a website whose sole purpose is to collect opinions from people who have no impact on the Angels or it’s management, and presumably live in cities with problems

Fascinating.

I believe that one’s “outrage” about Kerr’s and Kaplan’s statements is directly correlated to one’s opinion about the issue’s they are trying to highlight. I think if they were protesting, say making Porn Hub’s premium content free you’d be screaming “Let them speak! Hear what they have to say! Bravo Bay Area Coaches! Bravo!”

I’m expecting a 4 or 5 game winning streak now.

As for Kapler, any political activity by a sports person will have the usual crew agreeing and the other usual crew disagreeing. It becomes pretty pointless since Congress is still Congress, as in “broken, doesn’t work right”.

Not banking on a winning streak like that. But I think they’ll get the ship turned around and back moving in the right direction on this road trip. They seem to play better baseball on the road.

I think they will eventually get the ship turned around — just not sure it will happen on this trip. I think taking one game in New York and one in Philly is the most likely outcome. But I hope we don’t get swept in New York — that would mean an 8 game losing streak !

Yah. It’s gonna be a bumpy road. If they turn it around over the next couple weeks it will be pretty impressive.

Really?

I don’t think there is any way we sweep the Yankees in New York.

It has probably been more than 10yrs since that has happened. We will be lucky to win one game there the way our bullpen has been performing.

to clarify, I mean sometime soon we’ll have a winning streak. First we need to win ONE game!

Let’s do it. Going into the Yankee band box with the Angels big bats is going to be an advantage. Kick the snot of of them. Halos have a small bonus in avoiding Cole. Just start Duffy at 3rd and stop doinking with the frigg’n lineup.

I had no idea mike mayers was dfa’d. I know the losing streak sucks, but having that guy gone is better off for the team

There was an extensive write up with quotes in The Athletic, if you subscribe check it out. The weird thing was when he was asked about his injuries, he said “what did Joe say.” They are being very evasive about the extent of both injuries and when he will return. Rendon’s answer was let’s wait and see. As always, the real question in my mind has always been what is what is the likelihood of 2019 $37 million Rendon returning this year, and my answer is even lower than I thought going into the year. I’m pretty sure he will be back at some point. I hope you don’t think this isn’t a bs one liner.

The team would be better not to count on anything from Rendon. If they get something, it’s upside – however set expectations low.

On a depressing Memorial Day Monday after a sweep and the worst kind of a defeat maybe this story will cheer you up. Mike Trout is a pretty cool dude:

Good morning fellow Halo fans, the breeze is a blowin’ in the wind (Bob Dlyan & Peter, Paul and Mary.) Great Day for our flag.

Read that a writer for USA Today wants to remove any and all patriotic songs from all sporting events across the county. Another wants the American Flag removed from same.

Off Day today, Angels will fly out today, but does Joe think that this is rest Day?

This year I think that sellers are going to reap. I believe the Angels will be buyers though and that some mistakes will be made to only return and bite us in the ass. Like trading an AA pitcher only to see him pitch against us in ’24 and shut us down for many years to come.

The upcoming draft for MLB expected to be mostly for hitters as opposed to pitching. This could be the year to draft just pitchers again. You can always trade good pitching, not so much with DH’s.

Well now, it’s great to read that Kurt Suzuki is ready to go and fit as a fiddle. I must say I love when Stassi is on a roll with the bat, HR’s come in little bunches.

Trout, Ohtani, and Ward have had multi-HR days. this season, am I missing anyone else?

Happy Memorial Day to all, enjoy your day and remember, we can’t lose a game today. Stay smilin’ and stay positive.

100 people died in the city he manages in the last 2 months due to fentanyl over doses and not a peep was mentioned about that from him. California has the some of the strictest gun laws and somehow gun homicides are high every year.
