Get a load of the crowd in Oakland Tuesday afternoon.
The Inland Empire 66ers are playing .500 baseball at the time of this writing, as is almost everybody else in the California League South. The pitch clock is shaving about 20 minutes off of minor league games compared to the control games. Scoring remains about the same.
Pitchers On Injured List
“Good Andrew Heaney” only lasted two games. Alex Cobb has a right adductor strain. Paul Sewald went on the COVID IL. Paul Campbell has a right elbow strain. With Sean Doolittle it is the left elbow. Matt Manning has right shoulder inflammation.
Links About Catchers
The Reds placed catcher Tyler Stephenson on the concussion list after he was injured by a Luke Voit slide that some considered dirty. Meanwhile, catcher Chadwick Tromp cleared waivers so the Braves outrighted him. Mariners catcher Luis Torrens is now on the COVID IL so the Mariners have selected first baseman Mike Ford to the major league club.
Other Links
Mr. Perfect Roki Sasaki threw eight more perfect innings in his first game following his perfect game.
Supposedly, the two remaining Yankees holdouts are now vaccinated so they can go to games in Toronto.
Ben Clemens did the math. Apparently issuing a bases loaded intentional walk is not a good idea.

A good old fashioned rhubarb!
that was a 30 second pin-down by someone in red on that pitcher. Took 5 blue teammates to finally pull that large dude off the pitcher.

The Plumber’s got a bad hose? Not good.
This guy Steve Klauke is a pretty good baseball announcer for the Bees, would be a nice candidate for the LA Angels TV play-by-play job someday, soon, I hope. He’s good.
Bummer about the Plumber.
Oh dear, not good
Sadly, I am starting to slide a little toward Trevor Bauer’s end of the bench. Sure, he’s still a prick, but prick or not, did he break the law? Nope, apparently not. So when does his “leave” end? There comes a point when my dislike of the way a thing is being done starts to outweigh any dislike for the person it is being done to. Old Trev’s case is getting there.
And WTF MLBPA? Gonna do your job at some point?
Yeah. I know. “Hurrr der nar havetah break duh lar to git suspenders!” Cool. The MLB needs a year to figure out if they will suspend him? Are are they taking a year waiting for their PR firm’s reps’ eyes to roll back into place?
This is starting to fall into the category of “I may not mind this happening to a jerk like Bauer, but I should mind that this CAN happen to Bauer…. and any other player.”
Are you happy about the Angels solid start early in the season? Well stop it. Turns out even slightly elevated levels of optimism give some of the people who frequent this site ass cancer.
You don’t want some of these people to get ass cancer do you?
You don’t want to admit you wish some of these people had ass cancer do you?
Be a mindful person about the ass cancer some of these people may have that we in no way hope they have. Don’t say anything positive about the Angels until they have won their second world series in a row.
At that point, say one positive thing. Then please start complaining about how Arte is gonna bring it all crashing down.
Thank You,
Signal Patrol
I am happy about the Halos solid start. I’d also be happy if you got ass cancer…..
So rugged!
Eventually everyone gets ass cancer if they live long enough. Sadly, you were sold a lie when you were told a prolapsed anus helps prevent it. All those awkward trips to the ER, all the rage and resentment they enflamed inside you, they gained you nothing but a small, silent, yet grateful fanbase.
They will mourn your eventual ass cancer if you live long enough… if they remember you at all. They’ll all miss you truckstop bathroom guy.
dang. man! You must be having quite the day
I just heart the shit out of rosstrade. Even TootyToo manages to post a simple “here’s a thought about Angels baseball” type comment now and again so gah bless him.
rosstrade’s always after the smoke. Ya eyakuliruyu yemu v glaza.
.371 3hr’s $722,9K
.292 2hr’s $4M
how’s that compare to Marsh?
And who in the hell are these guys in hats FROM THE OTHER LEAGUE?
Wow. Some other teams have good pre-arb players… very good TootyToo.
What was that about ass cancer again?
It’s here, lurking among us, like a tuna sandwich your kid forgot to tell you fell under the seat of your car. A sandwich that hates joy.
what about Paul Goldschmidt and his $26mil salary? .162 now, a 51 OPS+
He’s doing better than Upton and his $28M
at least Upton isn’t giving us negative WAR
I have no idea who those people are
Good opportunity for Detmers to feast on the Orioles tomorrow.
Not so fast. Bruce Zimmerman who is the starter for them tomorrow has pitched two games thus far and has thrown 9 shutout innings (4 innings in first game and 5 in second game) His ERA is 0.00. If Detmers gives up a couple of runs early he could be looking at an L.
9 whole innings? Give him the Cy Young! 4.71 career ERA
If only we had two MVPs to make his job as hard as possible.
Well hopefully he can make easy work of that Orioles lineup. He’s faced a ton of tough teams in his limited starts so hopefully he can build some confidence tomorrow.
Kind of like the Angels having the best record in the division/AL. It’s early.
Absolutely. No one should be reading too far into anything right now
So, I should cancel my 2022 WS champs party? 😋
no. All Angels accomplishments so far are real. All other teams, too early to tell
Hmm, I haven’t received an invitation. 🤨
Gotta win it first. 😁
Or assuming we’re gonna cleanup on somebody because they’re a “bad team.”
I never said I was assuming. I said it was a good opportunity.
I dunno. A lefty we’ve never faced before might be throwing a CGSO, cause Angels, but I hope I’m wrong!!
We cannot take the Bards lightly. they shut out the A’ss 1-0 yesterday so they can do that to anyone.
Case in point BBB’s Waterloo of July 25, 2019. We got punched in the month and never really recovered finish the season 18-41. we need dominate the “rebuilding” teams too.
Exactly, a clear sign of improvement is to punish the teams you should punish. A team has to do that before they can become a great team. No team is going to win them all, obviously, but you have to have series wins, with consistency, against the rebuilding/cellar dwellers.
Agree. Don’t take any opponent or anything for granted !!!
No mercy sensei!!
Mercy is for the weak, we are not trained to be merciful.
Sweep the leg!
Karate Kid?
Of course!
300 wax on, wax offs for you!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n77FSz0M2kE
we sucked then, though.
Orioles are kind of a gamey bird. Might not make much of a meal.
Better than Crow!
with so many know-it-alls here, crow is RARELY served.
You said something optimistic about our game against a rap team tomorrow.
If I don’t temper your optimism with some “real talk” I’ll feel emotionally vulnerable and if the Angels lose it’ll feel like Summer camp 1978 all over again.
Ummmm. Ah. The Angels are six games under five hundred against teams with bird names the last ten years so we could lose tomorrow.
If it was Big Bang Friday, we’d have a chance to win.
Fck me for being a fan of my team, right?
Just be careful of the ass cancer.
The Angels are six games under five hundred against teams with bird names the last ten years
Wow, now there is a stat. I can’t keep up with that level of baseball! 😀
Oh this will be fun. https://theathletic.com/news/yankees-letter-appeal/932TVE7Q7CYh/
I think Showtime wants to lead the team in steals this year. Competition is tight this year with Showtime, Caveman, Wade and Ward is trying too. No team goes 1st to 3rd better than us. Knocking in runners in scoring position has been the best in the last 8 years.
Who sits tomorrow with Trouty returning? Just a guess here, but maybe Ward to get the day off, if not then Adell, and with that said it will be Marsh. Wow, with Joe you never know do you. Playing second could be Capt. Jack or Wade or Duffy. Anybody’s guess who goes where, I have never seen the likes of this versatility on a team before.
Agree, with Joe…you never know. When the spotlight is on, he’ll flabbergast the crap out of you.
Ward should make way for Trout, he should sit right next to Mayfield and Duffy. In due time, Mayfield and Duffy will drift back to 0220 and 0.250. Wade brings a little speed even though he has been thrown out 50% of his attempts. LH bat adds some balance. Fletch comes back, keep the Glove at short, Velasquez.
Keep Walsh and Adell in the line-up at all times, number 4 and 5 hitters. Walsh for his “D” and Jo for his “O”. Lastly, don’t move Jo around between positions and batting order. Dont make him think any more than he has to. Some mental things going on upstairs.
Adell is going to be the odd man out. Poor defense, strikes out too much, seen too many fastballs right down the middle blown past him when he know’s it is coming. He may be better off in AAA rather than getting sporadic playing time. Ward and Marsh are on fire and Trout is Trout.
No doubt he is abysmal at defense but his bat can be electric. Bottom half of the order quickly fades. Keep feeding Jo ABs, jerking him out of the lineup does more harm than good. We saw the Angels offense meltdown last year in the second half.
Either our players are slow, or catchers are getting better at throwing base stealers out. I hope Gil is working at teaching how to read the pitcher and getting a big jump because I sure hope we keep trying to steal second. Stealing and speed usually mess with a pitcher’s head and worries the catcher unless his name is Maldy.
Sure wish we had him back on our team but Suzuki has been a big surprise sharing the duties with Secret Police.
🏆 Most positive blog day ever around here, and I mean ever. Complainers are now looking to find the Rangers Blog site. 🍺
Even the poster who shall not be named has been fairly quiet.
You jinxed it!
I tried not naming him. Oh well. Sorry, y’all.
October playoff picture starting to clear up – looks like we will be playing the Mets
Sure do wish it was the Dodgers. I would love to Beat the Dodgers in the WS.
Perhaps slow your roll just a bit Grandpa, lol.
I always tell my doyer friends if it ever happens, the bet should be “loser goes back to where they came from.” 😉
OMG OMG OMG 2/3 from the ASStros!
I’ve never seen a game dominated by one player like yesterdays.
Considering the schedule we’ve had, going 8-5 with 7 of those against the Astros makes me happy.
This while Trout has not been Trout and missed 3 games, Ohtani didn’t heat up until the weekend, and Rendon not hot yet.
And all without Roberto Baldoquin!
Thanks, Jerry!
surprised the JeDi hasn’t pried him away from the Cardinals yet. He’s having such a stellar season. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=baldoq000rob
Oh, come on, who wouldn’t want a .111/.200/.167 slash line!
Rendon isn’t hot yet, but he has slashed .278/.417/.278 over the past 7 days (5 games), so he has at least started contributing at the plate by getting on base.
Not that I ever root for injuries, but Alex Cobb and Andrew Heaney both hitting the DL within days of each other makes Minasian’s off season moves seem sounder than I previously thought.
yeah Perry is starting to look smart.
if Arte won’t let him have a complete SS, getting a glove there made a lot of sense considering the offense around the diamond. Velazquez and Wade are both faster too than Rengifo.
Duffy was a steal. And our GM still won’t deal Adell/Marsh so high marks for that.
Noah and no mo? No more starters that is – but now a ‘pen with Bradley/Tepera/Loup/Iggy.
Perry is looking like he might have some aptitude for this gig.
Best record in the American League. Not bad for a platypus.
So far it looks like this year is the first time since 2004 ( Vladdy, Big Sexy, Kelvim & Jose Guillen-even with the roid rage) that the Angels have hit it right on all their major free agent acquisitions ( Thor, Lorenzen, Duffy, Bradley, Tepera & Loup)
Boy there’ been alot of dumpster fires in between
Nightmare producing dumpster fires.
We’ll have to see. I expect some bumps from both Shohei, Thor and Lorenzen as the innings pile up, but I’m OK with it. If they come through OK and/or MiLB guys like Detmers, Canning and TBD hold the line for a few starts when we need them then we’ll know the team’s got some cake under the frosting.
another thing to remind everyone is he completely overhauled the training staff and brought in new people.
i definitely noticed a change this spring in Tempe:
Smaller groups for exercise/warm-ups – pitchers were in separate small groups and had a lot more time for stretching allotted –
it wasn’t the crowd of 60 players doing general stuff all at once for 15 minutes as we’ve seen in past years.
I knew that this was a special team in ST, but really was unaware of behind the scene changes. PTP is really on top of things and it shows up in not just wins but in attitude on the field and dugout.
Didn’t know this, thanks for sharing!!
Any signs practicing fundementals? A stumbling block in Maddon’s resume.

Excellent. Let’s hope there is not a late reversal two hours before first pitch.
Or a flare up with his IBS.
Which Friday?
HAH!
April 14, 2023.
Listening to people that say April games are meaningless.
They beat the Asstros, when they beat them it counts twice because it counts in the loss column for the Asstros, remember you have to beat the good teams. You have to work the balance sheet, a win for us is a loss for them
There’s only 162 games and they all count the same in the win column. People who say otherwise are just trying to find a reason to bitch.
Who said April games are meaningless? That is incredibly stupid. If anything April games are more important than other games because that is when you establish your team identity and create a template for what your season will become.
It’s a local meme. Given our trAditionally slow start, it is clear that team management believes that April games don’t count.
Sicut infantem vincite
It don’t matter when, where or how.
April games are meaningless… until you miss the play offs by 3 games.
Or by 1 game, 2015…

No way there were 3,000 + fans at that A’s game yesterday.
Maybe they counted tailgaters that couldn’t afford tickets after paying for parking
Tickets are cheaper than $30 parking
I think they count tickets sold in the attendance figure
Yeah, that is a definite. But I also think the teams sometimes outright lie to the public. The Rays did that a few years back when they were announcing 10 thousand fans when it was clear there were not even 5 thousand in attendance. Not sure about this but I suspect that MLB would not even give a shit or try to enforce that accurate numbers are reported.
Sigh. This has been discussed many times. They announce attendance as tickets sold. Not people in the building. That “sold” number includes corporate and season seats that are sitting empty. This has pretty much always been the case. Teams don’t have to lie, they are like governments, they just tell everyone the true number that most truly makes them look best.
For example, my monthly cost of living, for the same stuff, is up 22% over March of last year…. inflation is officially what 9%? It also helps me feel good when they tell me how much the general cost of living has gone up…. but don’t include housing or gas. For the MLB there may be 2200 people in the seats, but 10,200 seats were paid for baby!
Teams can’t lie about ticket sales. They get into a lot of trouble when they do that. Ask Dan Snyder.
If you think governments don’t lie to the people I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.
Yes. That’s exactly what I was saying. Governments don’t lie to people. Glad you got my point.
Don’t forget that what goes into that basket of goods also changes over time. What used to be a ribeye is now an industrial soy sludge burger.
Angels are playing a day/nite double header against the A’ss in mid-May. I’m planning on going to both games, and the ticket outlets are selling great seats at near face value.
One ticket price for both games?
No. You need 2 tickets.
A’s gutted the team and jacked up ticket prices. They really don’t want people coming to the games so they can move them to Vegas.
The real cost of an A’s game is the parking. $30
Damn….
Noticed the same thing for Mariners game in August at their park, $35!
Well, they want $90 plus fees for tickets behind home plate in MVP prime (not diamond club). I believe those tickets were only $65 last year, but not 100% sure. Either way, it’s a big increase for an entire payroll that will make less than Max Scherzer does.
I mean, it’s still cheap compared to the Angels but the A’s also draw less than 20K fans for almost every game.
I think the out of town fan base is probably larger than the home fan base
There is free parking a few blocks away, but who knows what will happen to your car during the game. It’s Oaktown, after all.
Take the BART instead.
Eh. I prefer not to be stabbed.
I don’t what it has been like the last 10 years but I rode it a few different times in 2012 last time I was in Bay area and there were not issues. It can be crowded during rush hour times, but other than that it is fast and usually on time.
Things have changed and not in a good way. I used to ride it as well. For a while there, gangs of minors were riding bart and stealing peoples phones right out of their hands. The homeless situation is incredibly bad in Oakland and I wouldn’t want to be on a bart train at night. Ridership has also dropped significantly with covid, so you’ll have less protection from just having safety in numbers. I’m happy to pay $30 to park instead.
Shohei rode the bart a couple years ago
It probably reminded him of the trains in Tokyo as the tracks above ground are very similar in appearance and function.
Yes and he was almost abducted.
No. Some quiet, unassuming business man just sexually molested him. It was very Tokyo.
ah, the old bulge rub. yes, classic Tokyo. Been a victim myself.
It’s a shame. When I lived up there I took BART all over the place. My friends that still live up there all say it’s pretty much a no-go now. Don’t plan to let their kids use it, etc.
It really sucks because it was a pretty safe and reliable way for older kids to get into the cities from the burbs on a Saturday, etc. Alas, no more.
I’m debating flying up for a day game, and I might do that… Assuming it’s safe.
Wife and I went to SF in 2009 for a work conference (Oracle Open World or whatever it is called). We were flying into Oakland because, well, avoid LAX if possible.
Thought I would save the company a few bucks taking the BART from Oakland (station across the street from the Coliseum) as there was a stop a block away from our hotel in SF.
While the BART itself wasn’t bad, one particular person at the platform in Oakland was. Early 20’s female walking around the planform yelling into her phone, eff this, eff that, eff everyone. I’ll cut a b!tch over and over again. Did this for like 10 minutes until the train arrived. Yeah, we took a car back to the airport to come home. 😃
Isn’t she mayor now?
Maybe so. 😂
So, did she cut the bitch she was threatening? 😀
I wish I knew. I remember my wife saying as we sat on the bench, just look straight ahead and ignore her, no eye contact. 😀
Aw man that was just Nay Nay. She was making sure McDonald’s would have fresh fries waiting for her when she got there.
