LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Sore Shoulder

A.J. Ramos left Sunday’s game because of right shoulder soreness. There is no word on when he will be back.

The Angels are middle of the pack at positional power rankings for the catcher position.

Bleacher Report writes that the Angels will disappoint this year. Let’s hope not. Meanwhile they managed to get onto this list of teams with loaded lineups.

Albert Pujols finalized his deal to return to the Cardinals for a year. He says he’ll retire after this season.

The Dodgers traded Matt Beaty to the Padres for minor league two way player River Ryan.

The Diamondbacks acquired Sergio Alcantara from the Cubs for cash considerations. The Athletics just re-signed Jed Lowrie.

Pete Walker, pitching coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, was just arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Florida.

I sure hope we have a strategy for this likely needed platoon. Ward, Upton, Duffy, ?????.
Do we even have a backup at 1st? Get the Plumber a 1st basemen’s glove pronto!

Meant to say “The Duff Man” will be the “New Goooose” for 2022.

Why subject the pitching staff to a player who is out of position? Find a RH hitter who IS a first basemen. Another Perry wart, like the middle infield.

2 reasons I can think of, because the GM and Joe prefer player’s that field multi positions and they believe that either Capt. Jack or Duffy will hit lefties.

This is why I kept Goose in my off season piece. And I’d like Rendon to get sone games off early in the year.

Better than having a ton of utility guys with no plus tools.

my guess is we keep PTP’s boyz (Wade/Duffy). Rengifo/Velazquez to SLC, and Captn Jack is cut loose.

Captain Jack has an option left so no need to for him to walk the plank

I like fletch at 2nd. His arm isn’t the best for that distance.

I have the same concerns. But I also had those concerns with Eckstein.

Agreed although I don’t recall Fletcher’s arm being an issue when he played a lot of third base.

AJ Ramos has a torn shoulder capsule. Out for the year, career might be over given his age.

Quick diagnosis. Good sign we didn’t go through the trAditional health progression.

*Should be fine
*Day to day
*10 IL
*Should be ready in a few weeks
*Few more days, almost ready
*Set back
*Forget he’s on the team
*Surgery and/or 60 IL

No more Dr Nick?

It’s Bleacher Report, so crap is expected. I agree with them that “which Rendon” we’ll get in 2022 is an unknown, and that the team lacks SP depth. They missed on calling out the improved bullpen and what a full season (fingers crossed) of Trout will bring. In addition, they did not identify the one team in AL West setup for a perfect “buttercup” is the Rangers. They spent over $500M on players and I won’t be suprised if they only receive minimal improvement year-over.

That said, 83/84 wins for the Halos is still an improvement and just might be enough to slip into the expanded playoffs.

Who do you think is the fastest running 1st to 3rd on the team? Or who will steal the most bases? Who is the fastest from Plate to first?

My answers are in order are Fletch, Marsh, Ohtani. Or maybe Trout, Ohtani, Wade. Or…..Fun stuff.

GPB might need a little Smith-Rock treatment for excluding Adell and including Fletch.

Can’t wait to see the lineups for the rest of ST. I am in high hopes for my favorites to out play the competition and break camp with the big league team. If not I hope they hang with SLC and wait for the call up instead of going FA.

Being optimistic about the Halos in ’22 has it’s rewards. If the team does well you can say, “See, I knew we would be winners all the way”. When you are positive the day is more fun and Angels games are just awesome on the days of comebacks. Reading about Doom and gloom from authors we never heard of is enough to make us act like Will Smith. If Trout goes down again or Redone is done or Shohei shuts down or Fletch is injured or the pitching fails then those events or a combo of them happen then yes we are curtains, but on the positive side if it all jells we will be special. I really do believe that the Angels are special and will be at the end of 162 games. Go Halos-Go Angels!

Twins signed Chris Archer, meaning Johnny Cueto is still available. I figured Cueto would be the next name off the board.

I’d still take him as a swing guy/long reliever/back end option. He won’t be ready for a few weeks but by then there will likely be an opening.

at first I thought we should have taken a gamble at $3.5mil but I see he has incentives that drive it up to nearly $10mil. I mean, if we signed him at a lower number and he hit those incentives I guess it would mean he pitched well. Maybe. I don’t see what those incentives are and that $10mil “mutual option”…what’s that?

We made 10th without him.

Put him in (and Wade instead of Drew) and we are much higher.

Yeah that Bleacher Report article is weak. The author’s arguments for a lot of the teams is very flawed. He didn’t do his homework very well. Saying that the Rangers will likely be better than the Angels? Lol! Did he look at the Rangers team other than Semien and Seager? Tons of holes on that roster. And Seattle may be good this year, but their bullpen is what carried them last year. Their bullpen is much worse this year.

2021 2022 Mariners prediction: Seattle will figure out away to screw up their playoff chances and all of lookout landing will melt down. That is all.

I’m finding it really hard to peg the Mariners. Their pythagorean record last year was 76-86. For those that don’t know that stat, it’s the predicted record of a team based on the runs scored and runs given up. They beat that by 14 wins which is a huge amount. The next best amount is Yankees who beat their differential by 6 wins. Normally teams regress toward the run differential.

On the other hand, the Mariners added some good players in Winker and Ray.

With the Angels’ track record, I would not bet on them. Do I hope to be pleasantly surprised- of course. If I were a sports writer, would I be predicting the playoffs for this disappointing franchise – no way.

It’s great being the team with a bunch of underdogs. Of course that would be underdogs that are wearing gold plated diapers .

To be honest, it’s nice to read objective viewpoints from outside the Angel community. Does not hurt my feelings. They are only predictions. It’s natural to feel optimistic about every acquisition and every spring training long ball but when you look at the team holistically, there is not a lot of change from last years horrible performance. While I think health is always key, there still are some sore spots that might hold the team down.
