Baseball is Back!

Oh glorious day. The MLB owners and the MLB Players Association have reached an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Details of the various proposals have been leaking out over time and the staff here a CtPG will unveil all the details as they become available.

For now, let there be rejoicing in the land. Our beloved Halos will return soon.

So is Tony Clark bad at math or just bad at history?

Wow, a labor union organizer who’s not good at, you know…. stuff.

Well. Now we have to wait 24 to 48 hours before all these players’ agents can suddenly “find” a bunch of contracts that “really came together fast after the lock out ended” in their brief cases and hand them to the players to sign.

Cuase no one set shit up two hours before the lock out, and ABSOLUTELY no one from any organization talked to anyone from any agent’s office or any players while the lockout happened. No way Jose. That DID NOT happen.

There’s just going to be a super human amount of highly detailed legal paperwork generated, reviewed, submitted, reviewed, agreed to and signed in the next few day.

5 year deal, so they can’t get locked out until then, as the Players did well to compromise, after all they are only multi millionaires.

Hoping we get 1 or 2 more SP’s before the season starts but I have a feeling its not going to happen.

I feel that we will. I had no expectation that Perry was done when the lockout hit.

Season starts April 7. Looks like we lost about a weeks worth of games.

Kinda bummed they moved it back to April 7th. I wanted to start at Texas instead of home vs Houston.

Yes but the halo fan preseason sentiment seems about the same.

Just wait until we get off to that 6-14 start.

Key bet is over/under on time before Thor arm injury is announced : I have it set at 60 days.

Needless to say I am taking the under!

Looks like the QO has gone the way of the dodo.

Also, “Clubs promoting top prospects to Opening Day rosters will be eligible to receive Draft picks if the player finishes in the Top 3 in the Rookie of the Year voting or Top 5 in MVP/Cy Young voting.” I’m guessing this is aimed at service time manipulation, but it will be interesting to see the definition of “top prospects”.

Players may only be optioned five times per season. Again, I’m guessing service time manipulation.

Still no salary floor, so Nutting gets to keep pocketing the competitive balance money.

Unfortunately the QO doesn’t go away until 2023 ( assuming the union and the teams can agree on a international draft) As a result the Angels will probably have the distinction of being one of the last teams to lose their second round draft for signing Thor

I’m a little bummed they have NO SALARY FLOOR. I just don’t get it. There have to be a fair number of higher paying owners that are sick of the A’s and Pirates bullshit. It didn’t need to be a high salary floor, hell even make it 25% higher than the revenue sharing money a team gets, but make it something.

We have wasted to much in time for only one win, we need to win post season series. With trading for a couple more inning eaters we just might prevail.

That’s great for the integrity of the playoffs. Nobody can claim they got screwed by a deep division or another team skated on their weak division.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Reply to  ihearhowie3.0

Yeah. At first I was meh on it, but I bet I will like it in the end. Given how many times we have seen teams like the Braves, Nationals and Rays take it to more expensive teams who just beat the snot out of the Rockies or O’s or some other bottom feeder all year it will be good to see tough teams from tough divisions like the NL Central have a shot. It will also not hurt to have more teams “in it” longer, though Yankees/Dodgers fans will be sad that the Indians won’t just trade Beiber when they are at .510 in July. Actually, that’s another plus.

I love this for two reasons: I often get tired of seeing the same division foes, and it gives so many more opportunities to go watch the Halos in stadiums I want to visit.

I’m not saying to only face each other 6 times a season. But they could def trim it down a few games against each team while still keeping the division rivalries intact. I see no harm in this change.

Yep. They do. They’ve had really bad luck with top prospects in the past but hopefully Cherington’s got that a little more locked down. Life in baseballs a lot better when the Privates don’t stink.

29 opponents over 162 games equals 5.58 games per opponent. This means we can’t have more than 18 total loses to the Asses, Trashtros & Rays per season.

Hallelujah!
