Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher covers the Angels for the OC Register and is a must follow on Twitter for any Angels fan. You can follow him @JeffFletcherOCR and read his content on the OC Register in print and digital form.
Jeff has enjoyed a front row seat to Shohei Ohtani’s journey in the major leagues and the incredible year he had in 2021. His new book on Ohtani will be out around the All Star Game.
He’s also a Hall of Fame voter and we discussed his ballot and the controversial selection of David Ortiz.
Here is the interview. I hope you enjoy it and thanks again to Jeff for the time. Please leave comments or questions for him below as he will get a link. And listen towards the end of the video for the contest to win a free copy of the book. You can buy your advanced copy of the book at Amazon.
Great interview Jeff. I really like Fletch as the Angels beat writer But Fletch never really did answer your question about his fellow HOF voters voting for the weakest candidate David Ortiz who played no defense and was clearly the product a favorable home ballpark ( Career Road OPS.883 vs .Fenway OPS 994)
He voted for all of them. His explanation for the other voters is they had less evidence on him so more were able to justify their votes.
Fletchers HOF ballot has eight votes…seven of which are dopers.
Are the Halos moving in the right direction with the recent hirings? To most of us it would seem that Arte finally gets what is needed.
Thanks for a great interview!!
I’ve always been impressed by how JFletch’s handles those twitter users who come up with torches and pitchforks ready to riot.
Also like how he never jumps to conclusions.
Regarding the book, there’s already a LOT of competition in the bookstores of Tokyo, but the majority is quite religious(worshipping), so hopefully JFletch’s objective style earns a space here too. I will definitely get one.
The voting of Ortiz is just something that I agree to disagree on. But this is a very interesting interview none the less, good job to both.
A sincere thanks to both Jeffs for taking the time to do this. Interesting, and well done.
“Less than nice” ha!
Thanks for your hard work, Jeff! Both Jeffs!
