A very typical 2021 Angels performance ends in loss to Texas

Rangers 5, Angels 2

At the beginning of this month, AJ Alexy befuddled the Angels with six scoreless innings. Today, the Angels demonstrated that they had not learned much from the experience, putting up just three hits, two runs (courtesy of a Max Stassi home run), and two walks in five innings verses Alexy. This pitcher still 23 innings into his big league career, hit around by the Houston Astros and New York Yankees, continues to shut down the Los Angeles Angels. And sadly, it’s not that surprising.

The Angels would go the rest of the way with just one hit and no runs, meaning that the four-spot the Rangers put up in the second inning off Packy Naughton was enough. Packy once again did not get enough whiffs, not striking out any hitters and allowing walk after walk and hit after hit in that Rangers second inning.

The search for 2022 arms (honestly, and hitters) continues.

I read more from LA Times writers about Ohtani’s quotes, some recent and some older. This guy will bounce if things don’t turn around. I didn’t know he noted the team was inferior and didn’t add help at the trade deadline. Add his recent disposition, this team better shoot for the stars in the off season. If things go bad next year, I can only imagine what Ohtani, Maddon, and Trout do. I get that right now its tryouts for next year, but I’m a little more worried that I initially thought for next year especially with the inferior team playing right now…

Send Packy packing. A robust 6.35 ERA. Next. I’m ready for the surfer from North County, Braden Otlhoff.

The good news, Mets won a double header and climbed back over the Angels.record wise. It’s possible to obtain a higher draft slot with Maddon at the helm.

What’s equally impressive about Packy is his 1.81 WHIP

Just another Angel non-prospect, destined to kick around the minors and split accommodations with 7 other teammates.

Dude, come on. You’re ready for the guy who was just drafted two months ago from Tulane? I like Otlhoff. I get it…. grit. Also surfer from North County, what ever the f*** that has to do with getting your ass handed to you by MLB pitchers. He’ll be fun to watch in A ball next spring. But right now you sound like the craft brewery version of “Guy Who Declares Bama Could Beat The Worst NFL Team”.

WTF team dumps their prospects after 12 IP? He’s gonna get at least a few more innings, maybe even dozens more, before they dump him in favor of the next guy you complain about. BUT, maybe we can get him to stop shaving and flip someone off. Then he’ll have “grit”.

LOL…I’m not serious but it can be seen that the FO has been holding open tryouts at the MLB level. Many of these guys are not ready as we’ve seen so not sure it could be a whole lot worse.

Well, with a missing year of minor leagues and development options, a relatively new GM in the organization, and a bunch of players that may need to be protected in the Rule 5 draft, this seems like a good strategy. What fault do you find with it?

gitchogritchoffmypettis

I think he’s saying he doesn’t really find fault with it…. he just wishes we were in a better spot.

Hey yall. Did you know this injury riddled team of scrubs is not very good? Did you know there was a period of time when the team was pretty good?

I’m just making sure. I’d hate for anyone to go through life not knowing this.

Jeez….. can you imagine going to this Rangers/Angels series? I’d rather watch turtle racing live.

So how many games did we get this this year?….

You forgot to include pictures of players we could have drafted if the baseball operations staff wasn’t stupid and could see into the future

Our intended team is the player we should have had this season. Actually, I’ve been really getting into posting images of bank managers from mid-sized banks in mid sized cities.

The logic and applicability is about the same. Why don’t we bank with those guys? Because Arte.

That is a pretty good line-up but somehow we still would be a meddling team. Perry’s bullpen doomed us from spring training. Why isn’t this GM getting more heat?

Likely because he’s no worse than the last two GMs that ran the ship into the rocks

Because we improved on our win total from two years ago (last full season) while half the roster was injured, including our two highest paid players?

Or because they like the Perry the Platypus memes?

Yeah, two years ago was the 2019 Aumus meltdown. That was just a horrid finish.

It really would have been great to see the Ohtani, Trout, Rendon trio for the year. Starting to think Fletcher needs a shrink. I think he is traumatized playing behind the pitching staff, He is really fading – 0.263 ave.

He also isn’t getting anything to hit. But yeah, it would be nice to have a team healthy and firing on all cylinders. Hopefully next season 🙂

What has happened to the winning franchise we knew and loved from 2002-2014? Something similar to this.

I’ve watched this GIF many times while drinking an Pizza Port Swami 16oz IPA and I swear, if you look closely at the second balcony, appears to have a couple guys wearing red polos going down.

At this point would we not want them to lose their last 5 for draft position?

realistically there’s not much movement possible. Let’s look at it.

Current 12 and 13, Detroit and NYM, each 75-82. One game better than us. Detorit with 2 more vs Minnesota, 3 vs the White Sox. The Mets with 2 vs Miami, 3 vs Atlanta. I can see both of those teams going 2-3 to finish. We’d have to go 3-2 to tie. Will we win 3? Ok, moving on to those below us…we’re 11 if that wasn’t clear.

The only teams that we could fall below are Colorado and Kansas City, currently 2 games worse off than us. The Rockies have 1 against Washington and 3 against Arizona. They could win some games! Let’s give them 3-1. They apparently have lost a game that won’t be made up. 2-3 for us won’t put us behind Colorado. We’d need to really lose! KC has 2 with Cleveland and 3 with Minnesota. I think to fall behind KC we’d have to lose all 5.

If we did lose all 5 and if Colorado and KC won a few the best we’d be would be #9 in the draft, although I believe the Mets will pick before then as compensation for not signing Rocker. So that’d make us #10. If we maintain position we’d pick at #12.

In short, it’s awfully late to have these games matter *much* in terms of draft pick. A little, possibly, but not much.

If we have a chance to screw the Mariners and end up moving down the draft board…..I’ll take that.

Wouldn’t the Mets compensation pick come after pick 10?

it’s actually depressing to watch this team suck so bad just as there is so much energy every where else in the league. Seattle might actually reach the promise land, doesn’t look like we will for a while.

Perry, get rid of these high school pitchers. This organization has been around for 60 years and the fans deserve so much better than this crap.

Hey, he drafted a metric fuckton of college pitchers recently…

Sometimes you just can’t over come injuries and your owners budget.

Are you wanting roster changes during the final week of a season in which we are already eliminated? Let Packy get some experience.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Yup. This injury riddled last gasp part of the season is perfect for seeing how much actual value is in the JunkPack. I’m not expecting these young guys to just show up and kill it, but I think it will be good to see who should be let go.

I also really think it’s smart to let some of these guys you are going to keep get a low leverage taste of the MLB pitching experience. I think any number of these guys can take their experience getting beaten on by the Astros or A’s and go back to Madison or SLC next year and really grow from it. It could have a real impact next season.

HT Ennis, nice write up in very, very difficult times. Uggghhh, maybe tomorrow they will hit, defend, and win a game! Or maybe not. No home crowd to cheer them on, so eh.
