Away Angels Win at Home 6-3

The Angels have a double header today, with game 1 being pitched by C-Rod at Angel stadium but as the away pitcher. Oh and since it is a Mafred double header, it was only 7 innings. It was an oddity to say the least, and one that made for a rather confusing experience for everyone involved.

Away game at Home

The game was an odd one with the Angels as the away team at home to start. So the batted first. Fletcher git a leadoff single. Ohtani reached on an error. Fletcher stole 3rd to put the runners on the corners. A strikeout and a GIDP ended the threat.

C-Rod was on the mound and while he had a runner on who stole a base, got out of the inning unscathed. Scoreless after 1.

Despite getting 2 on with no outs, the Angels failed to score. C-Rod had more trouble again but evaded damage. Still scoreless after 2.

After Fletcher and Ohtani got out, Gosselin, Churches, and Upton got back to back to back hits to give the Angels the lead! C-Rod was unable to shut the Blue Jays down and gave up a run. 2-1 Angels after 3.

Lagares walked, got to 2nd on a balk, yet was left stranded there. C-Rod loaded the bases with 1 out. He was wild and the bullpen was warming up. But he escaped it thanks to a double play. Still 2-1 Angels after 4.

Things got exciting again in the 5th. After 2 outs, Churches walked, Upton singled putting runners on the corners for Adell. He popped up to first but Vlad Jr botched the catch and 2 runners scored! 4-1 Angels!

Short Game Bullpen

As this was a 7 inning game thanks to Rob Manfred, the 5th inning was the time for Maddon to go to the bullpen. Warren was the first one out this time. A 1 out double and a 2 out single gave the Jays another run. A triple off of Upton’s glove brought in another run. 4-3 Angels after 5.

Lagares got a leadoff hit to go along with 2 walks. Mayfield got on due to a him and Lagares beating out the throws for the attempt at a double play. Unfortunately, Fletcher hit into a double play himself. Ohtani was intentionally walked leaving it up to Gosselin. Ohtani stole 2nd. That was vital as Gosselin came through, singling in both runners! 6-3 Angels!

Bottom 6, Guerra was on the mound now. Marsh got subbed in at CF, moving Lagares to LF and Upton out of the game. He did his job and kept the lead at 3. 6-3 Angels after 6.

The top of the 7th was the last chance to add on. It did not happen. D-Cell came in for the save in this short game. It would not be easy. Vlad Jr was up first. He struck out. Semien flew out. Bo struck out! Angels win game 1 6-3!
