Enjoy the wins! Be frustrated about the losses! Be frustrated about the state of the team! Be a fan in a way that truly suits you. But remember that at the end of the day, we’re all supposed to be having fun.
I think we can all safely ignore the fact that Albert Pujols homered against his former club yesterday…
In a strong show of support, the Angels are “hopeful” that Jared Walsh will be activated on Tuesday. In the real world, “hopeful” is a strong statement that actually implies a positive chance. In Angels-fantasyland-injury-speak, no one knows what this statement means. Stay tuned.
There is basically no meaningful update on Mike Trout‘s timetable to return.
Angels first-round draft choice Sam Bachman made his professional debut yesterday.
A viral tweet had individuals questioning José Iglesias and his effectiveness this season.

Mike Scioscia and the USA Baseball team has earned silver at the Olympics. We must now turn the page towards the 2028 Games.
The next opponent the Angels will face, the Toronto Blue Jays, erased an 8-4 deficit with three innings left to win.

At Sin City, tonight Mikey Stefanic is 3 for 5 with a HR and 2 singles. one of those singles, a 2 run scoring variety, was hit off the A’s Daulton Jeffries who was recently sent down from Oakland.

NY v KC has been a lot of fun to watch and listen to (on KC feed).
Rex and Phyzz have eaten your brain. They are by far the two WORSY enemies of the Halos.
How frail are todays young?
Are you now belittling and “minimize the members the input to this site.” 😇
It’s a jooooooooke. After re-reading my comment, I should have made it clear that KC and NYY are the WORSY enemies of the Halos, and that ain’t no joke.
I’m on a phone 8n Maui, I should have better things to do.
Bemboom or Suzuki? No contest but Perry and GPB will agree to disagree.

resign and re-sign do not mean the same thing to
I have resigned myself to the fact that Trouty might not re-sign when he’s 40.

Both?
The young guys have had success and the league will adjust to what they are doing. Sandoval has a plus pitch that has already been analyzed by Fan Graphs, Suarez is getting ground balls, and Perry seems fine with soft contact guys like Barria.
I’m really interested to see how their last 3-4 starts compare with their first three. If teams start laying off a certain pitch, or if they get too predictable. The margin of error for a guy like Barria is pretty slim, but I like watching guys like him work.
Bundy’s ERA ballooned a full run with his last 2 starts of 2020. Did other teams figure him out? Maybe. That’s why your comment here is so important.
I think you got it, Sandoval looks legit while Barria and Suarez will have nights where their stuff won’t play. I would cautiously watch their remaining starts into next season. Might be suitable in a long relief role if we can acquire some nastier stuff.
Has our masthead CtPG thrown around the idea of a member get together some time this season?
Might be a good way for us to share in our fandom. I know HH had some awhile back.
Funny timing for this one. 😂
I instantly thought of those huge sumo outfits where no matter how much rage you have – you can’t hurt anyone you’re battling against. Would be a great stress reliever for the community as a whole if we all donned those outfits and went off on each other. 😍👍

Rally Thong is not a fashion craze, it’s a lifestyle.
It’s not a lifestyle, butt rather a movement waiting to happen ( critical mass and tipping point theories? ) 💪
Hey 2002. I got your movement right here:

Honestly, I don’t think we have.
I’d love to hit a Sunday afternoon game with y’all.
So basically we traded Bemboom for Wallach straight up

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing
Nice article with in depth analysis for each player involved, thank you.
Interesting to see that he caught 5 games in the 2020 playoffs for the Marlins. A possible defensive stud? Grades high in the advanced metric world of catching, so they say.
Jeff Mathis 2.0….or trade bait for Toronto, help with the Blue Jays attempt to field a team consisting of sons of major leaguers.
Reminds me of the Kruger move.
When he got slashed?
I thought it was the one with the spilled milk on aisle 5. Or is that the Kroger movie?
It got wrecked.
What’s funny is that I’m actually enjoying this period of Angels baseball more than I have any others in years.
This is basically an extended Spring Training with guys playing for next year’s team. The offense is on par with a typical split squad game so I’m really not paying attention to that side of the game much. I understand that can suck because scoring runs is usually the best part of the game.
But we already know that Trout and Rendon will be back next year. Walsh is legit, Fletch is Fletch, etc. The question for the last half decade is do we have enough pitching?
To me, Sandoval and Barria have definitely pitched their way into 2022 rotation spots. Suarez is on the bubble. Detmers is getting his feet wet and it could go either way.
Complately agree with this, and with Wally below. There are the obvious frustrations with the usual suspects, but I enjoy watching the team every game. They are hanging in there despite obstacles here, there, and everywhere. Most importantly, you don’t have to squint too hard to see the future is looking up.The lineup, when healthy is as good as anyone’s and with Sandoval, Cobb (hopefully) Barria, Suarez, and Sho we have a rotation that isn’t a dumpster fire. Need some bullpen pieces and we are in serious business. In the meantime…there’s Shohei, Captain Jack, Fletch and friends. I’m good with that.
YES! SEE THE CRACK BABY! LOOK AT THAT CRACK!
What does this mean? Please explain.
See below … “The recent draft, the emphasis on re-building the BP and having a healthy offense in place is reason to see a crack of light at the end of that tunnel we’ve been in since 2015.”
Okay, but what was gitch tweekin’ about?
Great take JJ! My expectations started out as “can we get a pitcher(s) to go 5+ on a consistent basis?” Before the it was just praying we had a starting staff last through July with no one having season ending injury. NOW, i’m slightly more optimistic about these young guys coming around. Ohtani, Sandavol, Barria, CRod give me hope. The recent draft, the emphasis on re-building the BP and having a healthy offense in place is reason to see a crack of light at the end of that tunnel we’ve been in since 2015.
Glad you added CRod. He’s most exiting to me. But the coolest thing is we all get to be giddy over multiple cost controlled 22-25 yr olds. CRod, Sandoval, Suarez, Detmers and sure toss in Barria. And haven’t given up on Canning!
I think we’re going to need a couple of guys to do 2-3 innings per game once or twice per week. Tampa has been riding that strategy to success for a while now.
On the negativity on the site. If the Angels stay above 500 this year, it will be the 1st time since 2015 we have done that. That’s a win for me. (Insert: And with our injuries here). Some want to skip the road to 500 and go straight to the playoffs. I’m on board with that, but am happy to be 500 (Insert: And with our injuries here). I’m still in the mind with the kids up, our pitching coming around we can have fun these last few months. Playoffs? There’s still a chance as we like to say, but finishing above .500 (Insert: And with our injuries here) is a win and should be enjoying this vs complaining. (Insert: I’ve lived through to many losing seasons here) We are on the cusp of a winning season and people are complaining. Our lineup is full of AAA and we are .500. This team is frustrating and exciting at the same time. Expecting this team to take a series from winning teams with this lineup is crazy. When we do, we should enjoy it, instead of predicting a series loss coming up next. We pulled off a win vs the dogers! That’s a win! Did you look at the lineup cards?
Next we got the Blue Jay’s. Look at the lineup card. I’ll be ok with 1 win, happy with a split, joyful of a series win and ecstatic for a sweep. Fell the same about the next 4 games after that vs the Astros (3) and the Yanks (1)
Let’s enjoy the road to 500 and anything else is just Gravy. (Ohtani MVP)(Fletcher hits leader)(DCell extension)(Ohtani 15 more SB)
Playoffs? [insert Jim Mora here]

I had forgot the Rockies mascot name and we (son and I) were just at Coors field for ASG and took a picture with ‘it’. Everything is hyper analyzed these days. Glad this case it’s more comical than anything else.
Sadly a decent percentage of the twitter world isn’t buying the “Dinger” finding and have already labeled him racist. Just have to hope dude doesn’t get harassed and bullied over a misunderstanding.
The only reason why I know what Twitter is, is because of links from this site (that obviously don’t work for me if the account is private).
My 3 and 2 year olds say funny stuff all the time, just ask the 3 year old to say “truck”. The player(s) in this case didn’t even know what all the fuss was about, which should say enough because they can and do speak out when such actual poor behavior is exhibited by a minority of our population. Maybe the majority can just cancel all words that end in -er or -ah so there can never be confusion.
I’ll just stick to what I can control, enjoying the sport and games for what I like them to be… quality time with my family making memories.
That’s pretty much all I have Twitter for. It really is an echo chamber devoid of original thought, exchanges of ideas, or people even remotely considering they might be wrong.
However, it is a GREAT tool for getting in touch with baseball prospects and broadcasters.
I had the same thing at 3 with the word “truck”. I horrified my oh-so-proper grandmother when I told her what I wanted for my birthday…
Oh man, that’s reassuring. My 2 year old loves trucks, all kinds of trucks, and he has the same problem I think. What’s worse, his favorite kind of truck is the dum(p) truck…
Nothing wrong with dump trucks if you like dirt.
Maybe Dingers named should be change…best if we accommodate everyone’s sensitivity’s.
Harassment and being bullied are often accompanied with losing a job, a life.
Or maybe the mascot should just go by his first name, Hum.
And while we are at it we can force/coerce the INDIANS into changing the name they have held for multiple decades?
Maybe ?
You mean the IndieGirds
After this uproar, I think I’d rather be Steve Bartman
I wish we still lived in a world where, whether you were rightly or wrongly feeling your gooey little feelings, you got punched in the face if you didn’t mind your own business. Honestly, at this point I’d rather see a couple minor injustices go untweeted and unoutraged than have to see this constant digging for isty gold to be breathless about so I can fight evil from the safety of my keyboard and change almost nothing.
Hey rest of the world. Pretty much anywhere at anytime If some random dude is yelling the “n word” or what ever he’s gonna get stink from the people around him. Whether he does or not, the guy he’s yelling it at is going to be OK. Go ahead and leave your cape in your backpack, no one needs your heroic stance two days after the fact.
just watched it/listened to it. The guy was probably drunk, certainly not watching the game, obviously not referring to the batter who was not even in the guy’s thoughts. It’s clearly “Dinger!” I mean, he’s motioning to the mascot.
Problem now will be all the people that think they are funny using the mascots name.
And now they’re coming after the sports mascots. When will it ever stop?
Glad Marjorie Taylor Greene and Mann Act Gaetz got booed and chased outta the IE 2 weeks ago!!!! 😆 💪
So they’re sports mascots? What teams do they play for?
Either the Seagulls or the Bluebirds
Bachman video: that first play by Soto is really nice. The second, not so much.

GameThreads would be a great name for a store
Bichette is #3 in AL in hits, so who is #1 in the AL in hits, if you answered Mullins you would only be half correct. Our own Fletch is tied for league lead in hits, how awesome is that. Guerrero is #4 and Siemen is #6. Shohei #1 in HR’s ahead of Vlad Jr. Blue Jays are 10 games over .500 at 60-50 and 3 games over .500 on the road. This is going to be a fun series.
If you call losing 3 out of 4 fun, then yeah, I guess it will be fun.
Not comparing this season to 2002 – but that season the Angels had a losing record against every team that was above .500 but feasted on below .500 teams. They then got hot in the playoffs.
Baseball is a wierd game. The difference between winning and losing is often a ball than sneaks by an infielders’ glove resulting in a run scoring versus a double play. A hard hit liner that gets by the third baseman rather than resulting in the third out. It can be frustrating for certain since there is a degree of luck/good fortune involved.
But you never know when those breaks will turn to favor the Angels. It can happen at any time in any series. So there always should be some hope and optimism since you just never know. With a coupe breaks the Halos would have taken 2 of 3 at Chavez.
Aren’t you being a little disingenuous with your statements regarding the Angels 2002 performance against winning teams? Yes the Angels had a sub 500 record against the better teams but their worst record against any opponent that year was vs the A’s at 9-11 and the record against the other AL juggernauts, Skanks & Chowds averaged 3-4 while our record against the 93 win Mariners was 9-10. ( and during that infamous character building 6-14 start we went 2-10 against the M’s & the A’s) Thats a far cry from the constant drubbing we have been taken for multiple years now against our AL west opponents and even the TB Rays where we have become all of their little bitches. This is the shit that needs to stop if we will ever be taken serious as a winning baseball team again.
Not disingenuous- those are losing records. And I think I was clear that I was not comparing 2020 to 2002. My point was that in 2002 there could have been a lot of negativity about losing records against over .500 teams.
And yes there is a big difference between going 9-11 against the A’s and 4-12. But 9-11 is still a losing record.
If being negative about losing is wrong I don’t want to be right.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWAUCVbnDUg
The weird thing is that this year’s Angels are also feasting on teams with losing record, afaik. But we are also terrible against winning teams, esp if they are in AL West. We are like the Rockies this year, in a way, complete opposites depending on who we are playing (their contrast is where). Surely, one’s figure that a team that beats up weak teams should be at least somewhat competitive against winning ones, too. (The 2002 version def was).
Yes. For example play at or near .500 against the A’s this season and the Angels are in the hunt for a playoff spot.
I hate it when people say of the 2002 team that they just “got hot in the playoffs.” That is actually a veiled attempt at invalidating their achievement.
That team won 99 games in the regular season. They had proven that they were very, very good. Saying they “got hot in the playoffs” is also actually not true. If they were just “hot” they would not have lost any games. But they showed great resilience in be able to come back after losing Game 1 of each series, including the World Series.
Statistically that team was also very good. For instance, they had the top batting average in all of baseball (.282) and had the second best bullpen ERA. Let’s not minimize that/those facts.
Yes they were very good and they also did not win season series against any team that was over .500.
So what? Some of that was flukey.
For example, we were 9-11 vs Seattle. That team was very good; had Ichiro, Edgar Martinez, etc.
We got swept by them in a four game series in April (during that horrid start). Obviously that April start did not accurately show who the Angels were because every month after that they kicked ass.
We also lost 2 of 3 in Seattle in April. That was a 1-6 start vs the Mariners.
But guess what? We went 8-5 against them the rest of the way. So, really that 2002 season shoukd be looked at as April, then everything else because they were so different.
Actually in 2002 we were 9-10 against Seattle but 9-11 vs Oakland as discussed below. After the 6-14 start we were actually 15-9 vs the hated A’ss/M’s duo .
In 2002 there were only 14 teams in the AL and only 6 of them finished over 500 ( With the Angels being one of them) One of the teams, that wasn’t part of the 6,The Chicago White Sox, finished 81-81. But for the Angels winning the season series 6-3 from the Pale Hose, they would have been the 7th. So shame on us for beating them so badly.
In 1991, there were 7 teams in the AL West. The Halos finished in the cellar…. at 81-81.
Pretty funny this response to Grandpa’s comment, after your long diatribe above in defense of how you’re some misunderstood optimist.
“Misunderstood optimist?”
I never labelled myself an optimist or pessimist or anything else.
I don’t believe in labels. Except that you are an “understood a-hole.”
Man, if you need a win this bad you need to go play some kids in dodgeball or something.
(Without the wrenches of course)
It is not about “winning.”
And FYI, nobody “wins” here. It is a blog. It is not a structured game with rules, teams and a time frame.
I just want you to find a way to feel like a winner so you can chill the f*** out. Catch a big fish. Play a small child in checkers. Play yourself in Tik Tak To. Watch Beastmaster. Feel good. Shake fist at sky less.
Or go to a Little League game and crush those pitchers.
I would *like* to play Little League. I haven’t played Little League ball since the 1960s. I’m sure I could still do it and do well. Perhaps next season…
Hey Gitcho GET OFF MY LAWN!
Hey, I’ve seen plenty of teenagers, and twenteenagers, shake their fist at the sky constantly.

Vlad Jr. vs Shohei should be a ton of fun. Toronto has a kick ass line up, they just have to play in the AL Eastern division against the pesky Rays and the Powerful Red Sox and FNYY with the free ride is the improving O’s. I’m thinkin’ a split here would work.
The best of Mikey has not past as he is only 30 yrs old. next season we have a lot to look forward to in terms of our W-L record. Recently we have seen improvement in the Pen and in June our starter’s came to life. We are competitive even with 3 guys “Ova thy hill” at C and LF and RF, minor leaguers at 3B and CF and RF. A journeyman at 1B. Ny word have they all done things to help. Bag on Marsh if you want but man can he field and run like a young Trouty and his bat will come around. Go Angels and let’s finish strong.
Yep – I’m very high on Marsh. It takes a while for the bat to adjust to major league pitching (look at Trout). But hustle, grit and defense are things that are difficult to teach and Marsh seems to have all of that. Give him time and experience abd I think everyone will be happy.
Everyone?
Well not everyone obviously because there are many folks who would find fault with even Willie Mays during a slump.
Or Teddy Ballgame’s relationship to Boston while he played
He must be new here
FTFY
Bag on Marsh if you want but man can he field and run like a young “Forest Gump” and his bat will come around.
I’m guessing they are waiting for “I need help” before they make their move to coach his hitting.
Its early
Pretty much all true. Unlike other off seasons, where I thought all the whining about being “just one good pitcher away but Arte won’t sign him” was a load of crap, I think we are way closer to that now. Not just one pitcher, but maybe 3-4, spread amongst rotation and pen. Plus aIn the past we were realistically 6-7 pitchers away and a few position players to boot.
If the 3 Amigos hold to form, and Canning finds himself in Salt Lake, we are some pen arms and a starter away from competitive with good health.
We might even get Barreto back.
Gamechanger! Though no, joke, I’d be curious to see what Barreto does in our current era of Mayfield Greatness.
One good pitcher? We don’t need that.
We got Luke Bard coming back next year!
I too think Marsh deserves a LONG leash. Let him learn and grow, I think he’s got the potential. Much rather see him out there than Rengifo, right? Also optimistically hopeful that Trout doesn’t start slowing down till after 35 or something. Can we please get him some of that Tom Brady super diet or something? Maybe try no strawberries?!
And no mushrooms, ever!
Glad to see Bachman pitching just a couple weeks after being drafted. Moving up the signing deadline was a great move to let guys get their feet wet and better evaluated before their first full season.
Yep, now we just need to see how Kumar Rocker does in his debut! Wait, what? He didn’t sign? Ohhhh.
Looks like Bachman is Taking Care of Business. I hope we Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet with him.
Boy with Bachman’s fastball he can just let it ride.
Angels desperately need a pitcher named Turner who joins the staff at the time Bachman is brought up. That way we can have the Bachman Turner overdrive!
Well we once had a catcher named Chris Turner so maybe he’s got a kid by now we can draft?
We could then have the BTO battery.
Gubi’s head would asplode.
He would have to completely redo his iPod.
Doyers have an Extra Turner, and they owe us for Pujo
We’d end up with a player named Paige Turner.
A distant relative of this guy ….
As opposed to the Guess Who rotation.
Stick with the BTO staff we got No Time for any other rotations
Thanks for the article and links. Things getting testy on the threads here lately. I haven’t been posting as much because, quiet honestly, I haven’t had much good to say about the team.
That Twitter link won’t work for some reason (also didn’t work when originally posted), for me at least.
I’ll be at the DH tmw and game on Wednesday as well. Go Ångels
Walsh should be back soon to give Shohei a little protection in the lineup. A few more 450 ft. bombs will give us something fun to talk about.
I also believe things are to “testy” around here and have back off. Way to much negative comments on just about all the players and no solutions offered. Very recently a poster here in one game had over 50 comments with over 40 being negative, Yikes.
This team has done as good, nay, better than they should have up until now. If we finish over .500 we will do something that has not been accomplished since 2015.
Why do they “have to back off?”
Were either yourself or Fan71 assigned with controlling the level of venom expressed on this site???
And it does not matter one bit whether Arte or anyone in the organization reads it or even gives a shit,
That is not the point. Boards like this exist for the purpose of fan interchange and dialogue. That is what they are about.
And part of that dialogue is expressing displeasure with the direction and/or performance of the team.
Capisce?
No one is telling you what to do or say Frosty. There is no venom control. It’s more of a request. This site has rapidly degenerated into mostly anger and toxicity. There is a lot of that constantly in the world these days. I view baseball and this forum as an escape from that. So constant negativity is frankly depressing.
Certainly, complaining and negativity is understandable with the frustration this team has brought over the last 7+ seasons. But it would be great to have that balanced with some level of optimism with the positives that are very much there. I personally have a lot of hope for this team’s future. I feel things are improving. It’s not a Pollyanna type viewpoint. There are positives- including being at .500 this late in the season with all the injuries.
In conclusion- not telling anyone what to do. Just requesting a respite from constant negativity- maybe some balance.
Okay, cool.
I for one make an effort to be balanced. I acknowledge positives as well as pointing out the negatives.
I think I was the only one in the preseason to predict Shohei to be AL MVP. It appears that I am on track to be right with that prediction.
I frequently praise and defend Fletcher (pointed out that he is actually BETTER than Merrifield when a bunch of others were claiming he was worse etc).
Likewise I have shown love to Walsh, Sandoval and especially Raisel, for whom I have made a plea to resign and keep in the fold since early this season.
So, although I don’t pull any punches I ALSO recognize talent, growth and achievement.
And despite certain issues that still exist, I DO see things improving.
I too am very optimistic about 2022 and beyond.
lmao all i said was that it is justifiable that Merrifield is viewed as the better player over Fletcher.
Don’t want to beat a dead horse. You were not the only person in that boat so I am not pointing at or picking on you.
There were quite a few others.
The SPCDH (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Dead Horses)
thanks you for your concern.
Jesus we need to make the SPCDH a thing.
where’s all the fun in that?
Once again, we’re beating the dead horse about beating the dead horse.
Look, you may be comfortable with a dead horse that just sits there on the ground being dead but I actually think it’s OK to demand more from my dead horse. I spend good money on this dead horse, I dedicate time to this dead horse, and by God I am tired of this dead horse not doing anything but lay there. You may not really care about the dead horse, but I AM a dead horse fanatic! This dead horse needs to show some grit. The dead horse’s owner needs to invest more into all areas of the dead horse. I am a fan, I deserve it, I am going to beat this same dead horse until it is fuzzy pink goo or it stands up and sings me a song!
YAH!
Yep – I agree that you have definitely been balanced – as much as is reasonably possible with this team. I enjoy reading your posts.
Yes – please sign Raisel to an extension for sure!
By the way – I do have a live bet (placed during Spring Training at around 25-1) that Shohei will be MVP. I didn’t bet the farm (never do) but I did put a nice amount on it.
So when he wins the MVP, I hope that means you’re buying
Heck yeah
Good on you. Did you place it after reading my comment ? 😉
Nope. All on my own 😎
I predicted Shohei MVP the day we signed him!
I agree. You need to stay Frosty Jack.
For the record – I’m having fun posting here and having fun being an Angels fan.
Hi Jack.
Grandpa said “I also believe things are to (sic) “testy” around here and have back (sic) off.”
This means that Grandpa has HIMSELF backed off. Nowhere did he request others to back off. It was a simple tense error between “back” and “backed.”
Fun will resume shortly.
Although there could be a missed “to,” in which case it would be “[things] have to back off.”
I feel like a historian! This is fun!
Ha! That is classic. Grandpa is still with us so he can provide the actual answer. 😂
And just remember, from Mike Trout to 2002Heaven you’re all basically here to entertain me one way or another. I give you all a C+.
C+ yourself
Give me a Big A!
WOOT WOOT!!!
