Well, the 2021 All Star Game is this evening. As many of you probably know, Shohei Ohtani will be the American League starting pitcher for the All Star Game. Shohei will also be the leadoff hitter for the American League. To commemorate the event, Stephen A. Smith was under fire for a rant about Shohei Ohtani using an interpreter in his interviews.
Max Scherzer will be the National League starting pitcher in the All Star Game.
Pete Alonso repeated as the winner of the Home Run Derby.

Jesus Christ the uniforms the players are wearing tonight are sooo bad.
Be rad if one team wore Jesus robes and the other Roman soldier uniforms
They do indeed really suck. ASG unis often suck. I’ll see some poor schmo wearing one they bought and think “why? When you could have bought ANYTHING else, like a cool throwback.”
According to Sam Blum we will have a new broadcast member on Friday but Bally hasn’t said who yet
Fletcher says Rich Waltz
That would be a significant hire. He’s a well respected PbP guy.
Ex- Marlins guy?
Why do I suddenly feel like a million bucks and dancing?

I hope it’s Don Lemon.
Regarding SAS, he belongs to the pile of commentators that don’t belong to any political aisle, but rather they are shock jocks who say whatever they want to garner ratings. The problem is ESPN wants to act like they’re trying to educate and be above that, but they’re not. At least not now when these talking heads are the face of the network as opposed to Bob Ley.
What does get me upset is that our hyper partisan society automatically puts SAS into the social justice category when really he’s not part of any of that stuff, but they only do it because he’s black. SAS has never had any allegiance to it unless it’s convenient for him to get followers much like the rest of ESPN, such as Rachel Nichols terrible comments and Jeff Van Gundy. The only thing that rules is money and themselves as personalities .
The problem with taking someone like SAS and using the social justice label is that it detracts from the good folks who are actually fighting for social justice. SAS is only about SAS. He’s a big mouthed, sports yelling narcissist only.
So like Jamelle Hill, he probably thought she would go on a date with if he blurted out stupidity
Yes…This right here is what bothers me the most in all this.
Cannot help but think passing on Rocker was a move designed to allow there to be enough money to sign as many of the draftees as possible. Rocker would have taken a good chunk of the budgeted money.
Got an Alonso HR ball. Super fun time. Coors field even has a park in LF and $5 kid meals so that was a pleasant surprise.
Nice. If you value a kids area at a stadium, make a trip to the River Cats in Sacramento. It has a home run derby cage for small kids, a nice playground and a water play area.
Sadly, when the Giants took over they removed the discounted kids’ meal vendor station, the bounce houses, and changed the rules so parents can’t pitch to their kids, but it’s still nice.
Thanks for the rec! Would love to check it out
Is the ball signed? I saw some balls in the derby were signed by the player beforehand.
Not signed. And not one of the red ones. I have to watch it on TV when we get home.
still very cool!
Too Awesome!
I have been wondering for the better part of a decade why Steven A Smith is employed by anyone.
A) He’s terribly obnoxious
B) He has come under fire more than once for inappropriate comments
C) He’s a moron
He’s of the any attention is good attention kind. Don’t click, watch or even type his name.
He has connections to famous athletes. That makes him relevant to media companies.
Feel the same way about Skip Bayless, Chris Russo, and quite a few more media yellers.
I kept wondering if Eaton would be a good backup OF if we have to use Lagares in RF when Trout comes back, since he could (or at least used to be able to) play defense and may still have some upside left. I wonder if that’s misguided thinking.
I wouldn’t just the Angels for taking a flier on him, but I also wouldn’t judge them for passing.
Forget the trade deadline for OF acquisition.. Time to call up Brandon Marsh – he’s looked great in his eight games back from the IL.
It would be pure negligence to call up Marsh based on 4 games in Rookie ball and 4 games in Utah. Also, Marsh has a 37% strikeout rate in his 4 games in AAA and you have to predict that would increase against MLB pitching. Sure, he’s hitting .347 in the past 7 days, but if just 2 of his hits over that time period change to strike-outs or “just-misses” against better pitching, his average plummets to .261.
I understand focusing on other areas at the trade deadline in hopes you can call Marsh up before the Aug. 31 postseason roster deadline, but calling him up now based on a miniscule sample size is not a good idea.
You are a vastly better scout than me, but I think you’ve let your dreams get in the way of your reason on this one.
“postseason roster deadline?”
Players have to be added to the roster before Aug. 31 to be eligible for the postseason. Although come to think of it, that’s the 40-man roster, not the 26-man, so it isn’t applicable here.
I do believe H. is joking about “playoffs”
Oh, right. I clearly did not get enough sleep last night.
I’m all for making the playoffs! Let’s do it! =)
Sure, why not? I mean the Angels are 5.5 games out of the wild card, barely scraping .500, and 9 of the 15 teams in the AL have better records, but Trout’s coming back.
I guess the Angels need to lose 1 more to Seattle to keep the Mariners from selling at the deadline, but then it is time for a win-streak to match Fletcher’s hit-streak. Let’s go Angels!
I’m not…..
Good Gravy, is it not time to start testing these OFer’s that we kept in the minors. If Eaton is available it would seem a good investment as he must be a better option than Rengifo. Having Marsh brought up to replace Rojas or Ward would be a move forward.
I’ve wondered the same thing as I just cannot stand seeing our infielders out in right or left and I am not counting on our OFs to come back and stay healthy. Getting experience OF depth is good.
When we win the W/S in the next five years this draft is what we will be talking about.
Good link from Yahoo! on the SAS thing. Thanks for sharing. Abhorrent comments by SAS.
his video apology was nauseating. He kept pounding on the desk or whatever and the camera kept rocking up and down. Bad looks all the way around. Just a shock-jock type similar to Jim Rome. These guys are like human dumpster fires.
An apology that was not an apology
Just him pretending to apoligize with the intent on doubling down on his ignorance
