LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Back on the IL Again

Good morning Angels fans, how are you today? Hope your day is better than Rendon’s. Here, have some links.

Angels News

The Angels won yesterday thanks to Ohtani, Stassi, Fletcher, and Lagares. It was pretty epic.

Anthony Rendon is on the IL. Again. Again. Despite Maddon saying he wouldn’t. Again… again. How predictable.

Looks like the plan is to have Ohtani pitch in the All Star Game somehow. This will be fun!

Ohtani won Player of the Week again! At least that is going well. Especially when a certain Boston pitcher was being a jackass on Monday.

People still can’t wrap their heads around Ohtani’s unicorn status. I mean yes I am concerned he will break his arm again, but damn this is fun to watch.

Fletcher has had the longest hit streak in MLB this year. That’s impressive.

Around Baseball

Nick Castellanos has no respect for the broadcasters as he hits one into LF and that’s 4-0 Reds. I don’t know if I will make another meme about this again.

Hey look, the Brewers and Blue Jays made a trade! I wish Perry would make a trade.

More Oakland vs A’s Drama. Because why not?

The Full All Star Game Roster is out. Do you agree?

Matt Olsen joins the home run derby. Can’t remember the last player from Oakland to do that.

Daisuke is retiring at the end of the year because he is losing feeling in his hand.

The White Sox catches no breaks as Grandal is on the IL with a torn knee. That is over half their opening day lineup on the IL.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.

I honestly disagree with the Rendon assessments. It sucks he is hurt but this guy loves baseball and wants to win, but it is not the most important thing in his life which I respect. I think he comes back hot.

Rendon is made of glass and has no motivation to playing. #5 million reasons every seson for 5 more season’s after this year.

Great set of links.

I think Sutton talked that Lagares catch as he’s been mention Gold Glove EVERY chance he gets. Whatever, it was a great play.

Chapman was the last Athletic to be HR derby. I’m going to HR Derby and ASG so I’ve been paying extra attention to some of the details I’d normally care little about.

What a time to be an Angel fan!

This Ohtani gif from Rob Friedman is, as they say, “not fair”.

Brian Goodwin is batting cleanup and playing center field for the first place White Sox! Go figure!

We could use a great guy like that

White Sox are in a pretty bad injury heck… Yet, they are still eating good money to release Adam Eaton. (Sadder still, my reaction was that we could use him as a backup OF who can play defense…altho I have no idea where he is on that dim nowadays.)

That is another player I said we should have kept. The guy was clearly undervalued, and yet Billy saw him as expendable. If I had been GM he would be playing RF for us instead of rotating Rengifo, Ward and Schebler out there.

Not a huge Goodwin fan but hard to disagree here. Brian fit in with the club well and was not horrible in the field. Had a little pop in the bat. But I for one, think it is good to let Ward play to help the team make a decision if he is a full time player or not. Kind of a sh$t or get off the pot moment.

I supported the trade then and I continue to support it now, seeing how Packy has turned out.

We went into this season with Trout-Upton-Fowler-Lagares-Adell. Goodwin would’ve been #5 for us and honestly he probably wouldn’t make the team. He would’ve been competing with Jon Jay and Scott Schebler for time.

Injuries to Trout and Fowler have put us in the situation we were in. It’s not a big deal. I doubt Goodwin would have picked signing a minor league deal with us over with the Pirates.

Agree….
Packy Naughton, 4.03, 38 innings pitched in Salt Lake, lefty, 25 years old…
Liked Goodwin, we might love Packy someday.

Well, if Trout were in CF then yes, I would rather have Lagares in RF for his defense. That said, I think I would still choose Goodwin over Fowler and he is also clearly preferable to Ward (he’s better defensively and has a higher .OPS). I don’t think the team ever planned to have Adell out there (at least not prior to September call ups) and always wanted him to get seasoning in AAA.

I’m beginning to think Rendon is better suited for soccer

This is a hilariously bad acting job. The right hand reaching up to check for blood is just way over the top. The delayed reaction is good too.

Let’s not forget that the player who touched him was clearly making a very bad attempt at drawing his ire and perhaps facilitating a punch and a Red Card etc..

I think history would show that the dubious porcelain doll honor belongs with Mr. Upton, not Rendon.
