Last year we had just enough MLB to give us a little reprieve from the day to day doldrums. I snuck in some KBO as well. And now that life is approaching what we’d call “normal” it is just astounding how much baseball is truly going on.
At the MLB level, Shohei Ohtani continues to be the national story. Really I could link dozens of articles but let’s just focus on why he should win MVP.
Granted being on the big stage in NY is one reason for the extra coverage. Ohtani is getting run to the point the NY press is wondering if he’s getting too much.
But MLB isn’t the only game in town. Not by a longshot.
Possibly missed while watching Ohtani drop bombs in NY on Monday was this amazing catch at the College World Series.
As I type this, an incredible College World Series is headed to a winner take all Game 3. The stands have been full, the games have been great, and I’m putting a trip to Omaha on the calendar in the next two years.
But, just like an infomercial, there’s more. Families and friends are once again enjoying the minor league baseball experience.
Our own Turk’s Teeth is doing a phenomenal job keeping track of the talent down on our farm. One standout, Davis Daniel had to postpone our interview today. Why? He got called up.
If you want a little insight into lower level minor league ball, here’s this: we tried to do a zoom chat a couple of weeks ago but the wifi at the team hotel is too slow to keep the video going and the players aren’t allowed to go anywhere but the ballpark. So we had to set up the interview for when he was on the road and at a hotel with decent wifi. Two weeks with no luck. How’s that for minor league grinding?
Late breaking news, and probably the only link that will get comments, comes from LA where absolutely disgusting details on Trevor Bauer’s charges were released by The Athletic. It is rare I’m at a loss for words, but I’m at a loss for words.
I’ll be back with a more substantial, 3 day, Independence Day segment tomorrow. Please link what I missed below.

What could’ve been
Wearing an Angel hat Of Course.
Thanks Jerry. You should have quit us a year sooner.
F*** you very much for Baldoquin, Jer-Jer.
Don’t forget Alfredo Griffin who told Dipshit that Baldoquin could play is the MLB now.
This is why Fredo was a first base coach and not a manager
Well the fact that Dipshit didn’t know the difference (Including that young Vladdy Jr was future star ) is the reason why he is a dipshit.
Reggie Bush cheated Big Time and the NCAA took away his Heisman Trophy, not that the rules changed he wants it back, lot’s of laughs. You got free house, cars, and cash and knew you were cheating, jeez and more geez. What a low life. He wants to be rewarded for cheating.
It’s like if ‘Roids became legal and Roger, Barry, ARod. Sheffield, Papi, etc said hey what about us now getting into the HOF. Break the rules and to bad for you.
He didn’t cheat, he had a paying job that the NCAA does not like. The NCAA wants all athletes to be needy.
Explain clearly how he cheated again, and then explain how that unfairly influenced his on-field performance to the point where he unfairly won the Heisman.
And in comparison to USC, explain how other schools such as Miami or even Penn State got a relative slap on the wrist for the same or in the case of Penn State , much more egregious violations.
The NCAA is complete and utter joke
Cam Newton….or any other top prospect, really.
^This^ is the key point.
If the NCAA wants to punish Bush and USC because he and his family received “gifts” and money, that is fine. Just be fair and punish the SEC schools in the same way.
Would Alabama, Georgia or LSU ever get a punishment like this? Not only taking away a deserved Heisman from one of their players but actually stripping a National Championship?
The answer is no. The “Old Boys Network” is favored by the NCAA. If you don’t know those are the old, white racists who have memberships at Augusta and run those big time SEC Schools. The NCAA and the “Old Boys Network” does not like the left-leaning ways of California but they sure as hell will turn a blind eye to the shady dealings of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, you know, their brethren.
NCAA = SEC
deGrom getting de-gooped?
When I use my big gray logic machine, I suspect just about every pitcher who doesn’t employ a popped out curve ball, a knuckle ball, or a splitter was using goop of some kind. Maybe a few guys that got more fastball rise out of it slipping off their fingertips skipped it too. Otherwise, if I’m a pitcher who needs to snap the ball out of my hand with my fingertips I was using goop. Why wouldn’t I? No one cared till last month. I don’t think there’s much point in speculating about every pitcher who has a bad start or who’s K rate drops. Chances are they were using something.
he certainly bounced back from the one inning
Great day for a postponement/rainout since everyone but the clubhouse guy has pitched the last couple of days. Plus we leave NY on a high note rather than a quick turnaround, no one to pitch, 12-5 loss.
The Angels now have 5 of their top pitching prospects making up the rotation In Madison, Al. Detmers, CRod (who pitched 2-2/3 scoreless innings yesterday) Cooper Criswell , Kyle Tyler & Davis Daniel.
Alot of these guys may never see the Triple A band boxes of the PCL West but instead ultimately get promoted directly to Anaheim.
Shouldn’t the Angels move the Bee’s to a city where the altitude is not an issue with player development?
Accessing Google Maps now, scouring the western 1/3 of the nation for a suitable city with a reasonable altitude, maybe closer to home.
I have felt that they should for 20+ years now. It makes a lot of kids look great and then come up and stink the joint up. Maybe the biggest bust was Brandon Wood, but there are to many to count.
Jon Jay is hitting .359 there. I rest my case, your Honor.
HoF bound
Send ’em back to Edmonton!
Forget the Trappers. What about the Vancouver Canadians?
Hawaii Islanders baby
http://www.lerctr.org/~transit/healy/hawaii.wav
Like Reno? Las Vegas? Colorado Springs? or how about Albuquerque? Unfortunately the PCL west is full of higher altitude launching pads where the curve balls don’t necessarily curve ( unless you’re somehow still using the good stuff, of course)
4 of the 10 teams under 700 feet. Move to the Northwest, Texas, Northern, CA. Sugar Land, TX elevation 100 feet, Round Rock, TX, 700 feet,
Sacramento, 30 feet, Tacoma, 240 feet.
I propose we play the Sacramento River Cats (SF AAA) in a 7 games series for the rights to their city and stadium. We win, we move the Bee hives and Joe Adell’s bedroom set, couch and refrigerator to Sac Town.
I’ve been on this soapbox for a while now.
It would be bad though if your soap box was too high an altitude (except if it was in Colorado Of course)
I would totally understand what you are saying accept I can’t because the Angels, as we all know, do not have pitching prospects… so what are you talking about?
Was just thinking how a win like that makes for a very palatable off-day. 😀

‘Bout time.
Bundy deserved the first half but, now it is time to pull the plug and hope for him and the team he can make it work out of the pen.
Enjoy Walsh’s Grand Slam bat flip!
Ji Man Choi: Not impressed
Not bad, but Walsh needs a little more practice. There just wasn’t enough attitude given he was playing the MFYs in NY.
He has such a pretty swing!
I have been grossed out by the Tyler Skaggs situation. It makes us look terrible. Then I see Trevor Bauer and how disgusting he is and how that overshadows things over here. Bauer is such scum. Yes I know she’s not blameless for returning and it’s all weird. But damn that’s sordid.
Also, Rachel Luba disgusts me. I was really bothered when she called herself a female trailblazer. First off, notice how suddenly his agent is now referring the guy and not Luba. Luba also went in a Twitter rant in the female accuser .Luba also represents Puig another domestic abuser. Luba was just an opportunist
That’s corporate feminism for you. Change the window dressing, not the power structure beneath.
Funny Stuff Department, here I sit watching Toronto Blue Jays playing in a Minor league Park counted as a Home Game and wearing Red Uni’s. WTF, lot’s of laughs.
Unbelievable it has been two years already.
Agreed, seems like yesterday.
Thankfully Dylan Bundy revealed himself so Minisian isn’t tricked into signing him to a bloated extension. On the other hand, it’s Minisian so you never know. I also hope is able to resist signing Cobb as well.
I think he showed yesterday that he can be valuable coming out of the pen.
Well he’s going to have a lot of opportunities to perfect it.
Cobb is worth resigning as it will not take a lot of money and he really can pitch well.
**Except in his last 4 starts where he’s given up 16 ER in 19-2/3 Innings. Those are SL numbers.
I just read the recap of the game and all the comments but they seemed negative …. Ooooops, my bad, I accidentally clicked on Pinstripe Alley instead of Crashing The Pearly Gates.
I enjoyed them last night so much that I’m gonna go over and see what they’re saying today. Be back soon with a report…
well they’re glad of the rainout because their team is terrible and the GM and manager need to be fired, etc.
Did you go to PA or did you really go in the Wayback machine to some old HH
rantsposts from years gone by?C’mon – we’re the cesspool. We need to have more pride in our negativeness.
Did we not evolve out of the pit yet. Or is this site just lipstick on a pig
We have the “Worst Person In Sports” as a member. What do you think?
Rev was right!
Maddon needs to sit Rendon down and tell him to call his buddy Scherzer, say how much he misses him, and extol the joys of playing in Joe Maddon’s clubhouse and Arturo’s generosity. If he’s gonna be sluggish at the plate he can at least provide some other intangibles.
#PukeAndRally
Or to ask his buddy Mad Max to get their management to take him and his bloated new contract back.
How about playing stellar defensively as an intangible?
True, but I want more for $245M. Upton has figured out positive WAR. Let’s go, Two Bags.
Congrat’s David Daniel. We need you.
Congratulations are also in order to Davis Daniel. We need you more.
The game today is postponed. Weather or something else?
Looks like rain throughout the day in bronx and this was supposed to be a getaway day game.
Make up 8/16
Butt hurt spankees
I’m actually glad about it. It would have been nice to take 3 of 4 but 2 of 3 is good, too. It leaves us on a high. Odds are we would have lost today. I’m not saying we would have but these two teams are similar so a split makes sense and I’d rather have that 2 of 3 feeling.
They are saying it is rain but we all know it is the tears of the Yankee fans raining down upon the city after last night’s loss.
Speaking of Vanderbilt…I want Rocker!!!
CWS struggles could slip him to our #9 pick.
On Rocker:
Carlos Collazo – Baseball America – June 18: “Rocker has dealt with inconsistent velocity this spring, sitting in the 89-93 mph range at times before getting back to his usual mid-90s stuff. He’s still succeeded and overwhelmed SEC hitters even without his best velocity, but scouts question how that pitch will play at the next level, especially due to the fact that his fastball has played down at times dating back to high school.”
I saw Rocker pitch 3-times in the Regionals and WS, was not overpowering. There are red flags with the drop in velocity. Will be interested to see how Turk weighs in on this guy.
Interesting…possible TJ.
But that’s our TrAdition!!
What worries me about Rocker, from the little I’ve seen, is that that fastball is strait AF. Even just solid college hitters don’t seem to have that much trouble with it sometimes. Not sure we wouldn’t all be bitching about having drafted him two years from now.
He also looks like he is barely avoiding the fat farm now, in his early 20s. Granted, I’m not in the camp that’s treasuring this #9 pick like it’s a top 5, so if he were a bust for us I still think we can get good arms out of this draft. But I am not sure people who want him have really looked at him. Those are the same people, in general, who will wrend their blouses over a 9 pick like it’s a 3 when this doesn’t work.
Or he’s CC Sabathia. Who knows?
Yeah, Rocker is a big guy and judging by the dad, he has some big bones and still filling out. Weight could be an issue once he hits the pros.
Limited ball movement is also a ding against Madden’s resume, which has me concerned. His fastball when up in the zone, gets hit. But he is a 1st round talent. I’ll support it but I’m nervous on this dude and with Rockers velocity drop, him too.
I recognize the masses here just wants a pitcher goddammit!! Let’s see how this plays out. The Top 10 has really set themselves apart and consist of 4-prep SS, Leiter, Jobe, and catcher Davis. With Rocker in that group. When rounds 2-5 come along, we can snag some arms but hoping we nail the 9 pick regardless of position.
While there is no “sure thing” arm in the draft, though we aren’t picking early enough to get em if there was. Still, I am excited for this draft because there are literally 15-20 pitchers I wouldn’t mind getting that project to around our pick spots in the first 4 rounds. I think we’ll get some pretty high quality pitching prospects this year…. all we have to do is develop some of them.
Could be worse ( a college catcher who can’t catch or HS outfielder that can’t field or hit MLB pitching ).
He definitely didn’t help himself in the CWS. Based on our internal chats, TT’s still likes Rocker’s upside.
I think Ty Maddon, mocked to the Angels a few times, did a good job of increasing his stock.
I’m not the draft guru but there are 3-4 college arms I’d be perfectly fine taking at 9 which leads me to hope/think that 1 or 2 will be available when we pick.
If a high school arm like Painter or Jobe fell to us would you be OK taking him? As far as #1 starter potential goes those guys may actually fit the bill more than Maddon or Bachman, but it would be a 4 year wait to see them maybe.
Jobe sounds good to me. He is No. 2 behind Leiter as far as arms go.
Does Jobe perform TJ surgeries on the side? This could be an added bonus for the Angels Organization.
For those (like me) who don’t have access to The Athletic, here are the details on the Trevor Bauer story.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/06/30/trevor-bauer-allegations-physical-sexual-assault-against-emerge/7819466002/
That’s terrible to read the details. He’s just another low-life degenerate that deserves none of our respect, adulation or time.
You maybe right in your assessment of Bauer Senator, but let’s keep in mind that he will have his day in court and then we will hopefully know the truth. I figure that at best Trevor is just plain flat out stupid. So is the girl for returning to his house. Celebrity or not he never should of met with her even once knowing that she could go to the police with a story or that she may try and get money from him. At worse he is a deviate who has ruined his life and proves he is just plain flat out a stupid criminal. So are we just lucky we were not in the bidding for his services? YUP, and we really need a good story Of crime, sex, and Rockin’ Roll, lol.
My take is both need to see a shrink and put in the nut house.
Idk, I agree a proper investigation needs to be done, but giving the benefit of the doubt to the account we have for now, it seems like stopping when your partner is unconscious would be the correct thing to do.
He learned from Bill.
Cosby, Clinton or Gates?
All of the above?
Don’t leave out O’reilly.
There something seriously wrong with Bill’s.
Bauer is younger than me and probably barely remembers who Bill Clinton is. Everything doesn’t need to revolve around a few Boomer political dinosaurs.
I would have thought Mickey Calloway. Not sure why they supposedly didn’t get along.
This is only one side of the story, for sure. But it is the first side and it is out in the public sphere. Coming back from this will be difficult at best, likely impossible for Bauer.
He’s either a complete degenerate or the victim of an obvious setup that he was too dumb to see coming. I’m leaning towards the former but neither is a good look.
Agree. Even if it was a set-up he looks both stupid and like a vulgarian.
The woman raises suspicion because she stayed/slept at his place overnight. Seems to me that in a truly horrific assault that was fully non-consenual she would have fled his home on foot if a car was not available.
The fact that they seemingly calmly conversed the following morning is more than slightly odd.
Lots to unpack here. And while I generally don’t pass judgement on what folks do in the bedroom, at best he called her over so he could slap her around and choke her when they hooked up.
I personally wouldn’t cross those lines even if asked nor would most guys. If he really is into that, there’s something wrong.
Everybody has their own freak-flag to fly. It’s just that some are, ahem, a little more freaky than others. Some people are in to what others would call weird stuff. Until it becomes criminal, who cares?
And why did she go back for more after the first incident? This one is total Super Freak.
She’s a very kinky girl – Rick James
Exactly. And how did that turn out for Rick James?
Much better way of saying what I was attempting to say.
There’s freaky, then there’s violence. I understand there can sometimes be a little blurring of the line there but a closed fist (if true) definitely crosses it.
Yep. I try not to judge what is done behind closed doors between consenting adults. Both the words “consenting” and “adults” are of course very important here. Did she consent? There seems to be at least some evidence of that….
I don’t have a problem with other folks bedroom stuff unless children or animals are involved or if somebody gets actually hurt. It appears she did actually get hurt, so in my book that is crossing the line.
I get no respect, my dog took pictures of us last night, now is holding me up for more doggie treats, I tell ya….
I think you got off easy. I would have thought he would have demanded payment in Dogecoin 🐶
Not to mention she went back 2 weeks later, why would someone return for more! They both need one another.
The return trip to his house might be problematic
Yeah, I’d say so!
15 points for use of VULGARIAN. Hell yeah!
Michael Vick came back from the dog fighting scandal AND a prison term so I would not be so fast in saying this will be impossible for Bauer to recover from.
From my limited viewpoint, both sides are questionable here … but who am I to judge?
🤢🤮
I had thought that The Athletic made this one free to all. Not sure if that is the case or not now.
No, only the first couple of paragraphs, like usual.
Oh I see, it’s a partial version:
https://theathletic.com/news/details-of-restraining-order-filed-against-dodgers-trevor-bauer-emerge/P828ADiKkPJj?source=twitterhq
Player Option 2022, 2023 @ $32M AAV, whew. Unless there are character clauses invoked, Dongers are stuck. I cannot see any team pursuing this guy even if cleared. This is not even taking into account is stick’em goo is gone.
Well now see here pilgrim, I might not have called it later but I sure as hell called it first (The W of course, but sure glad during game time Angels 2020 got to it.) Early game time today and yes we will win, I did predict a 3-1 series and even got the loss right too.
How did I do on my John Wayne imitation in the first line? I’m gonna hit the Big Time and their gonna make a Big Star outta me, yup.
always love your optimism, Gramps. Keep it up; don’t let the turkeys get you down.
Halo Honks must stick together!!!
Lodge’s burner account exposed 👆
I blame Steve Physioc for getting him the job, Roger said in an interview with him a couple years ago that he got him the job…
Phyzz has a lot to answer for.
Always making me smile grandpa. I’ll leave almost all the predicting to you, go Angels!!
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bobby-bonilla-day-mets-embrace-121454087.html
Happy Bobby Bonilla Day Everyone !!!!
Great story, smartest man the Bobby and he deserves the $.
Bonilla’s contract is a bargain compared to at least five Angels contracts I can think of off the top of my head.
His came earlier than the ones you are likely thinkng of; Hamilton, Wells and Pujols..:
Inflation.
Hyper-inflation?
They took a 5.9 million owed and it became 28 million, giving Bonilla an extra 22.1 million over the 25 years. Not to bad.
