LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Broken Hands

Everybody keeps getting broken hands this year.  This time it is pitcher Huascar Ynoa.  He punched something in the dugout so I guess it’s kind of self-inflicted.

Most of the money is either on Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani in the betting on who will win American League MVP.

On the topic of betting, our playoff odds are not as bad as I thought they would be at this point.

Shohei Ohtani looks to be rested enough to start on Wednesday

I’m sure Jeff Fletcher wants to go to the Dodgers beat also.

So if Trout blew out his calf on that play, what does it say about the team’s strength and conditioning? Are these guys even stretching?

Naw, Joe said it’s all groovy, we’re focusing on self-meditation and chakras instead of stretching or infield work this week.

What more can be said about our strength and conditioning coach after all the years our pitching went down

This is a question I asked a few weeks back. In fact, I have asked it for a couple of years…

Our training staff and more importantly S&C have to take a lot of blame for all the injuries…

I don’t think that is true. Mike referenced a couple of these folks in his pregame presser.

I noticed that they’ve had Thaiss catching some games for Salt Lake. I don’t think he’ll ever hit enough for a 1B, but for a catcher. I don’t think he’s really been a catcher since college.

Don’t tease me with one of our 1st round catchers becoming a useful asset at catcher

Phil Gosselin has some decent underlying metrics. Will be interesting to see if his success can continue. Also, he’s pretty fast!

30 games to the All Star break and the June schedule features quite a few winnable series if Trout is healthy.

We’d need to go 17-13 over that stretch to be at .500 which looks doable if folks stay healthy.

There are 10 against Oakland in there. The Angels can’t get killed by them then beat everyone else and think it is OK.

I’m getting concerned about Stassi. He’s been out quite a while. Same with C Rod. Getting some long relief help out of the bullpen would be nice. Maybe slide Cobb into Sandoval’s old spot when he’s back.

Yeah, we have not heard anything about C-Rod.

What is the damn situation there? We need him bad with all these consecutive games coming up….

May 6th both placed on the 10 day IL, could be the 5th.
2 days over and no update.

I could see both of them still in the waiting room, not seen yet.

Even our medical staff follows tr A ditions.

actually, if I’ve counted right, 49 games til the All-Star break. July 13th for that game so that’s almost two months from now. Interestingly, no games against Houston in there.

Jeff Joiner

I completely screwed that up. Including tonight there are 50 games to go until the Break (we play 2 on Thursday)

So to get back to .500 that’s a 27-23 stretch, or .540 ball over the course of two months.

Can likely only be done with a healthy Trout plus some arms staying healthy. But it isn’t outrageous.

Asking us to finish .500 (let alone at a .540 pace) is a lot at this point.
Hard to get worse than last place.

True and while we’re hardly the only team to get hit by injury, Rendon has missed a lot of time, Mayers was out, etc.

Looking at the upcoming schedule there’s lots of Texas, Arizona, Seattle even some Detroit and Baltimore. Fairly soft part of the schedule. There’s a chance to string off a decent stretch here.

Thanks. I missed that double header. If we are 45-45 and need to win 90 to make the playoffs (could be less but let’s use that number) then we’d have to go 45-27 after the break. Historically lots of teams have done that kind of winning.

We might even get Marsh up and possibly a 1st rate pitcher in a deadline deal.

Angels2020Champs

So we have to win at .653 rate to get to 90 wins with a .500 record at AS break.
I’d love it. Not happening.

Eric_in_Portland

All that is (have! It’s simple!) is 5-3 and then 5-3 and then…do that 9 times. But seriously it’s not impossible over less than half a season.

I’ve seen guys detach their achilles. It’s like they stepped into a bucket when they attempt their next step and everything just folds up like a cheap lawn chair. I guess it could be a strain but hoping it’s only a calf strain.

Very much doubt this is a blown Achilles. Hoping he didn’t blow out his calf as that could be 6-8 weeks.

Cup half full thought — if the injury is season-ending, maybe the cost of signed Mike Trout memorabilia goes down as he’ll have lots of time on his hands. I haven’t been willing to pay up so far, and there’s a space in my home office reserved for something of his.

If you’re a college student on a game show and don’t know how to pronounce “Achilles,” you don’t deserve to win. I wonder if they would have accepted the French pronunciation: “Ah-sheel.”

Simmons got the call that comes with reputation and was what veterans sometimes get.

I’m liking our playoff odds.

The Angels are not transparent and never have been, but I too am hoping that Mike’s Ok to play in a week. We as a team have many issues to deal with an losing Mike to what could be the worst of his career is an unbelievable to great blow, for him and us.

Rendon clearly hampered by leg issues.

Very good pitching last night although the negative voices came out with a first pitch Indians HR.

I love how most games this season are nail biters. With our pen it is always tense because they are just not that good. But cross your fingers but we just might have a real closer. Cishek maybe coming around, same with Holmes buddy Watson. Bot keep holding your breath.

Not sure what the point is in having replay in baseball. We can all see they got the call wrong, and it’s still not overturned. Replay, like everyone else King Manfred touches, has turned to poop. It’s a charade of uselessness at this point.

No one is even on the other side of the horn anymore. The umps just make things up to save face. They don’t announce anything, they don’t need to explain anything.

They know that robo umps will not work until is time for them to expire retire(but they never really do).

This is just a big AGT, and the winners own the teams.

Most of the game just gets itself right, no need to try too hard on the stuff that needs to be figured out. So the umps, and Commissioner don’t.

Why isn’t that ex-Yankees manager in the news these days? Isn’t this his job to correct things like this?

So now for today’s forecast from the renowned Angels forecaster Heeeeeeeerrrrrreeeee’s GPB.

“Well thank you, thank you for your warm welcome”

“OK Now for what you all have been waiting for, today’s Forecast for the Indians vs Angels and I say Angels can not be hurt by those tough warriors because although they have better pitching we have better hitting plus we have the Goose. Angels win 5-4 in 10 innings in a nail biter.” Just for laughs my friends, DO BET THE FARM ON THIS……. 😀 😃 😂 🙃

The fact Maddon had no real update on Trout after the game other than that they were still doing tests and needed to do more sure sounds like the initial evaluation was not simple/clean.

Fingers crossed its not his achilles.

I have no experience with the Achilles Tendon other than in a growth spurt mom would have to rub it at night while I was in pain. So speaking of pain, Mike looked to be in pain yet kept a smile on his face while descending the dugout steps. Is that a good sign as maybe he could have shown excruciating pain if as you imply he tore the Achilles.

If it was an achilles tendon tear, there is no way Trout goes down those steps on his own unless he ‘s hopping on one foot.

This was my thought too. With an Achilles tear he doesn’t make it to the dugout on his own. I am trying ti be optimistic although I also hate the lack of transparency. They can get an MRI last night? UCI Med Center is literally around the corner.

I don’t think it is. Kobe and kd could barely walk off the court. Trout walked off and down the stairs in pain, but without assistance. I’m hoping for the calf strain
