Angels get blown out vs DBacks 9-2

Another Cactus League game is in the books. Today is was Angels and Sneks with most regulars being M.I.A. Griffin Canning took the mound opposite of Madbum.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Angels threatened in the first, Juan Lagares got a single and stole second with one out. But the net two batters struck out. In the bottom of the first Canning had trouble of his own, allowing a double and a single back to back to give up a run, although Jo Adell did not help by misplaying the ball.

Canning’s second inning went as bad as the first, giving up a monster home run. He has been taking notes from Justin Upton, he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, but had 5 strikeouts and no walks in his 2 innings.

Félix Peña was worse, giving up 2 home runs in the 3rd and 4 hits total. After 3 it was 4-0 Arizona. New inning, same result, Ty Buttrey gave up a run on one hit and a hit batter.

As for offense, the Angels had no hits since the first until Brandon Marsh hit a triple to lead off the 5th. A passed ball allowed Marsh to score, 5-1 Arizona. A comeback? No. Luke Bard gave up 2 runs, 2 hits, a walk and 2 steals in the bottom of the 5th.

Franklin Barreto doubled in the 6th and scored on a single by Lagares. 7-2 Arizona. A run that was made meaningless as Hector Yan gave up a home run to the first batter in the bottom of the 6th. And gave up one more after that.

What a bad game.

Aaron Slegers and Jake Reed are the only pitchers who did not give up a run. Slegers he pitched 1 and 1/3 innings, reliving Yan in the 6th. Reed pitched the 8th with no runs and 2 strikeouts. Angels get 4 hits the entire game, with Lagares having 2 of them.

Bad pitching, meh offense, and an embarrassing defense made for an ugly game. Angels are now 2-2-1 and play tomorrow same time with Ohtani on the mound. That one I hope is more exciting.

Gawd what a horrible game. I avoided hearing the score all day and watched the replay at 7. Disappointed, but it’s just the first week and that batting lineup was pretty week. One more thing, JFC Adell, can you field a little bit?

Eh. First spring outings. For all we know pitchers are throwing 3/4 speed, only using two pitches and working on breathing through their eyes while just trying to get their motion right. I’ll worry in two weeks.

Glad I missed this one. Got second shot yesterday and felt crappy all day, That game would have been the last straw. Did watch Tomorrow I’m going to be cleaning up my back yard, but might have to knock off to see Ohtani-san.

disregard the score. Today’s game was all about whether or not Marsh could triple. So it was a success.

Oh well I harken back to happier times on Tuesday night . For me, it was also definitely love at first pitch. Great Article TBW:
