LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: KBO interest

Good Morning Angels fans! Hope you are ready for tomorrow, please be safe. Have some links.

Angels News

It is Bobby Grich week here at CtPG, he is still not in the hall of fame. For some reason. Contact the hall for his inclusion, after all, Tim Mead runs it now.

New Angels GM Perry Minasian is already filling his staff. Does this mean that Arte Moreno will allow his new GM to GM?

Jr Angels kids club for 2021 is here. Is it just me or did they use to have more stuff in the packs in the past?

Around Baseball

Looks like the Braves are busy as they signed Charlie Morton. 1 year 15 million. Well, that would have been a big dent into the budget if the Angeles did it.

KBO’s big star Ha-seong Kim will be posted today. While the KBO is not as good as Japan’s baseball league, he dominated in Korea. Angels should pursue, but do not count on him ending up here.

Speaking of the KBO, the Dinos have won their first championship! Best name in the KBO. And best trophy in any sport, IT IS A SWORD.

The Angels rival in Free Agency doesn’t seem to be the Mets, but the Blue Jays. Toronto has been interested in nearly everyone so far and are a favorite for Ha-seong Kim from the KBO.

Ray’s rising star Randy Arozarena was arrested over a domestic issue. He tried to take custody of his daughter by force.

The Cincinnati Reds are open to trading Sonny Gray. Hey the Angels have traded with the Reds recently, maybe they should go after him.

Yasiel Puig may be returning in 2021. Not to the Angels most likely, but his antics are likely to be back. Now that is a career that has fallen off since his rookie season.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

I am jokester just like everyone else but wondering if it is it a bit too personal to compare Perry’s appearance to a Platypus. If the Halo’s go on to a sub .500 record in 2021, then by all means, let’s put a harpoon in him.

Hey, whatever, if it helps us win the pennant, I’m all for it. Now, let me get back to the Cartoon Channel.

We’re not comparing his appearance, we’re making a Phineas and Ferb joke.

Let’s hope he makes some of the other GMs look like Heinz Doofenshmirtz.

Perry the Platypus/Globe Trotting PI is a cool cartoon character. We should hope our Perry is as slick and smart as the Platypus. It’s not an insult.

Perry the Platypus has a poisonous leg barb. That should come in handy.

Happy early Thanksgiving Day folks, and just for your information “Corn” and “Cobb” got this year’s repreve as turkeys who will not be on anyone’s table this season as the President gave them pardons, funny stuff. In case anyone asks you there are 15,000 Christmas tree growers who on typical years cut 77 million live trees for Christmas. Mall Santa’s are not going to see high employment numbers this year as masks would certainly scare more kids than not.

Maybe Puig would get it together with a year of Trout and Albert around him, he sure has the talent. Glad to see Arte showing that he gets “it”. Fill that front office with team players who have a clue. This is refreshing news that the positions are being filled.

Randy Arozarena is going to be a one hit wonder, sad really.

It maybe Bobby Grich week here as we love this guy as we are especially attracted to our own SoCal players. But as much as we love Bobby but he is only #8 on our hit parade, he is not Hall Of Fame material as his numbers just are not there. He was a very good player no doubt.

On WAR and using JAWS, Grich is a HOFer (also 6 time All Star, 4 Gold Gloves, and a Silver Slugger).

There are very few players with higher WAR that aren’t in the HOF. Using BRef, they are Bonds, Clemons, ARod, Pujols, Beltre, Rose, Shilling, Jim McCormick, Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Trout, Greinke, Palmiero and Verlander.

5 aren’t yet eligible, 6 are not in for cheating/PEDs, Dahlen and McCormick are both 19th century players.

Well my only comeback to this is that even WAR and JAWS numbers can be misleading.possibly. Bobby might have had an MVP season in ’81 if not for the strike and his fielding was exceptional adding to his WAR. But his career when looked at as a whole was hurt by his injuries as mentioned previously and playing full seasons for 7 to 10 years consecutively is very important also. I am not against Bobby Grich being in the “Hall” as much as I see both sides.

I think there will be a period of time where 1970s and 80s players get a good looking at by the Vets Committee and get in. As the voters get stuck with more and more roid cases to vote in…or nothing at all, they will probably examine less glamorous positions like 2B and let Whitaker and Gritch in. They measure up very well to a lot of historic 2B. Same with Dwight Evans in RF. They’ll want to get a classy old guy in along with douches who need to be let in eventually like Bonds and Clemens and those guys who have HOF WAR totals (which more and more voters care about) will get in. I think some of the 70 WAR guys will get in over time the same way, Alan Trammell (along with Lou), Omar Vizquel and his streak of incredible fielding, etc. People don’t realize Derek Jeter has 1 more WAR than Trammell, for example. The Vets Committee has stats like WAR now and can start advocating based on a lot more than “He was agreat interview, had real moxie and was on a great team” in the future. Fred McGriff actually has an outside shot as a 1B too.

I’m really hoping Dick “Ritchie” Allen gets into the Hall this year. He was a feared hitter and suffered a bit by the Philly faithful with racial remarks and some off the field issues which were not his fault. “If a horse can’t eat it, I don’t want to play on it,” his comments with respect to playing on synthetic turf. Get the man in! .

I’ve always liked Whitaker and thought he had a solid HOF shot.

Speculations are that they probably want a SS as the main piece in a trade. Might count us out.

Fletcher? It would hurt but David has a lot of value. Per the trade simulator site Fletcher should net Gray and a decent prospect.

Angels would then need to sign 2 middle infielders. But Gray + Kim + Hernandez is likely $23 million in combined salary whereas just Bauer will be more than that. I know which one I like better.

Trade simulator likes Fletcher for Gray and Lorenzen. That takes care of one starter and one bullpen arm.

As much as I like David, that’s a trade to consider.

I don’t think the Reds trade any young cheap pitching. The only reason Sonny is on the market is because they think Lorenzen can take his spot for way less money.

Ok. I saw Lorenzen’s 80 innings per year and assumed long reliever type.

If that’s the case, Fletcher for Gray straight up is an overpay per the simulator (not a perfect tool, I know) but that might just be the going rate for a controlled pitcher. Maybe Minasian adds a prospect of some sort.

At some point somebody is getting traded for a pitcher. Marsh, Adell, Fletcher are the three most likely.

Just wondering if Minasian can find 3-4 farmers for another Bundy-like trade.

Maddon’s got wood for Fletcher. I would be shocked to see him traded.

I’m thinking about those Downfall parodies. Like Hitler saying “we could trade Fletcher…we could use Noodles at short” and the German officers look at each other nervously.

I always wondered which film that was. Downfall.

yes, trading Fletcher would suck. I hated typing it. But any decent return is going to require some pain on our end too.

It’s true. I’ve said it before. Any true “game changing” trade will probably require either Marsh, Adell or Fletcher or a combo of those guys. I’d be OK with it if, for example, we traded Fletcher and Adell for 2 SP (one of which was a Blake Snell type) and a catcher or some bullpen arms. Fletch is great, but he’s not irreplaceable. If we swapped him out for Cesar Hernandez we’d probably take a 3 WAR hit at the position but if that makes our starters 40% better it’s worth it.
