LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Gloves be Golden

Good morning Angels fans! Hope you survived last night, those Gold Gloves results were brutal. Have some links to calm down.

Angels News

Griffin Canning was up for a Gold Glove and he won it! It is the only Gold Glove for the Angels this year but with the most DRS for a Pitcher, canning earned it! It is also the first Angel pitching Gold Glove since Langston in 1995.

Mike Trout did not get into the top 3 for MVP this year for only the 3rd time in his career. I blame the Rob Manfred. Jeff Fletcher has other reasons but they are in OC Register so you will have to read it there.

Foolish Baseball did not make Fletcher/Mathis shirts even though he could have. Tell him to make them anyway!

Around Baseball

Gold Gloves Awards were announced last night, and was the most important thing that happened on the 3rd of November.

Big winners were Texas, Seattle, Cubs, and Cleveland as they all won 2 each. Dodgers and Angels won 1 each. Which means they are equal, right?

Oh and Alex Gordon got his 8th Gold Glove. Same some for others jeez!

A Sandlot Lego set was maybe leaked. Oh it will be expensive but damnit I want it.

Buster Posey is a class act, and pays a visit to a fan who lost their house in a fire. How sweet. Even if it had to be a virtual visit because pandemic.

Baltimore will have a new owner soon, the son of the current one. Not that there was any issues, just MLB approval.

Texas Monthly credits the Astros for the Dodgers WS win. In other news, Texas Monthly is delusional.

A Dodgers pitcher defended Justin Turner’s actions when winning the World Series and interacting with everyone when sick. Of course it is on Mad Dog show.

I blame that damn kid for the loss of the MVP award, and that respectable dad bod.

Mike Trout “Totally worth it.”

Kolten Wong wins a GG and still wasn’t resigned because of weak bat in a 60 game season, go figure. Tough to measure what to expect in 2021 when you judge it on a 60 game run, makes it tougher to be a GM in today’s game. But the Angels are doing it without a GM, not that’s being really sharpe.

Or, apparently, without assistant GMs. Who’s still left in FO (with authority to make meaningful decisions) anyways? Is anyone in “charge”? (Exc Arte)

I’ll worry when players I like actually start signing with other teams. As of now I want the Angels to take all the time they need and get a guy who can draft and develop the way we all want. That’s all I care about. I don’t care if we sign him up tomorrow or in two weeks. I don’t care if we have a PoBA like all the cool kids or not. Just give me scouts and prospects who are worth something and eventually some pitching.

It’s not like our left over Ass GM was going to sign Colton Wong right now, nor are we likely to be out of 2B FAs in the next few weeks.

I think a 60 game season works to highlight streaky players. Over 162 games Trout would have been his usual self, leading the league in WAR.

And Ohtani would have wound up with respectable hitting stats, I should think

Quite possibly Upton, too. I know it sounds crazy but his K rate was just under 2018’s, ISO and exit velocity were a tad higher. His hard hit rate was 43.8%, which is slightly above his career average.

His barrel rate and walk rate were bad. Way too many pop ups early in the season. But he’s known to be streaky and he was coming off injury in 2019. It isn’t unrealistic to think Upton could have balanced out over the course of a normal season.

You could be right on JUp, but I will be shocked to see a return to even being good next year. He is showing that he could very well be a 30+ year old who just has lost it. Maybe WalMart optical would be of assistance next Spring.

Yeah, over the last 20 games or so J-Up absolutely mashed. I think he was top 10 in average exit velocity and was second to only Trout. Walsh Trout & Upton really finished strong.

I could really use a baseball game today. Thinking of watching Weave’s no-no if I can find it.

Angels comeback over Boston in 2009 is good.

I still think that was our best team in franchise history…except for Brian Fuentes.

That Lego set looks cool BUT I don’t see Hercules, AKA “The Beast”. If they add Hercules then I will definitely get it for my kid.
