Angels at Rangers 08/09/2020 Gamethread

The Angels try to avoid the sweep in Arlington on a Sunday morning. They have a tall task ahead of them, as Lance Lynn has been pitching very good ball. Joe Maddon has shuffled the lineup to hopefully ignite a spark. I fear that if it works, Mike Trout will stick in the 3-spot. Old friend Jeff Mathis says hello.

Angels Lineup: Fletcher 6, La Stella 3, Trout 8, Ohtani 10, Rendon 5, Goodwin 7, Adell 9, Castro 2, Rengifo 4, Heaney SP

Rangers Lineup: Choo 7, Kiner-Falefa 5, Frazier 3, Gallo 9, Solak 8, Odor 4, Andrus 6, Refsnyder 10, Mathis 2, Lynn SP

Adell definitely isn’t ready. I’m guessing his confidence is taking a beating. For such a supposed high power offense, they’re not scaring anyone. Its brutal to watch.

He got paid. Gotta perform in a walk year. Now it’s time to go all J-Up! Don’t know who’s worse, him or Adell.

True story, but we wouldn’t pick the right guy anyway.

We may win this fight to the top pick, right now only KC Royals stand in our way, go Halos.

Angels never win in 2002 if they didn’t endure the horrors that were 1994 and 1996. Erstad and Glaus pretty important players!

Well, this I agree with. You have to be bad before you can be good.

But usually has to do with the growing pains of young players; we have vets like Trout, Rendon, Ohtani etc and STILL get swept by one of the worst teams in baseball.

My main concern is that Arte is very problematic. I think that he is holding us back. I feel it is time to start calling for Arte to sell the team. Let somebody own the team who actually gives a shit.

I think Arte wants to win but unfortunately is still making the mistakes of Gene Autry. It’s very hard to win if player development isn’t your focus. Arte has shown that it is anything but.

Well, yeah. Not wanting to pay for scouting is kind of a problem, lol.

I would add that there is a big difference between Autry and Arte; Gene Autry was NEVER cheap. You can criticize him for over-spending on FA’s but he was not cheap. Arte is. If he wasn’t in the beginning he has become so.

Kole Calhoun ruins Lamet’s bid for no-hitter w/a a leadoff HR in the 7th.

I kind of wish MLB rosters would have been cut as originally planned. Ward would have been cut.

When we’re 10-40, Rendon is really gonna go on a TEAR!

I have to get my kicks elsewhere. Joy at the Skanks losing, the Cheatin’ Stros losing…that sort of thing.

Can we please let Ward, Thaiss, Hermosillo, and all the rest of the AAAA players get ABs, and cut them when they all hit .150. I’m tired of seeing these guys on the roster.

This is the biggest Angels problem. Giving abs to guys that don’t deserve it, because Arte builds a top heavy lineup instead of letting Eppler build a team with depth. The best Angels team didn’t have anyone even resembling a superstar but they had depth in spades. Ward/Thaiss/Hermosillo/Walsh have probably gotten more abs then Rendon and even if Rendon was hitting, it’d be better to have a more balanced lineup instead of the Angels hole ridden lineup.

Right, what I wouldn’t give for a Maicer Izturis or a Casey Kotchman right now. Hell, even a Robb Quinlan.
