Angels 30 man roster released

Yes, it starts with 30 but goes down to 26 as the season goes on.

Adell and Marsh are not on it. Either they are not ready, or the Angels are manipulating service time. Or both! Julio Teheran is unavailable because he is recovering from the virus, so he isn’t on the roster. Jared Walsh made it though, as did Taylor Ward, as an OF. Ward also doubles as a third catcher.

Baseball is back!

Taylor Ward and Stassi are wasted space.

Teheran bumps Andriese or Pena to the bullpen, Adell comes in for Trout when Mike becomes a father then bumps Hermasillo off the roster the rest of the year. Pretty easy to see Thaiss and Ward as the first cuts down.

For now, a pretty flexible roster.

One day to go until our fun starts. Adell is not getting any younger and play competitive ball in 2020 is going to give him added experience for the hopefully full season in 2021. Ditto Marsh. Ward is a fill in at best so really it would have been nice to have had the future in the present. it does seem to figure that Teheran and Rendon the two biggest additions are out, after all this is TrAdITioN around here along with TJS, lol. Here is to reeling off a 19 game start to the season, Go Halos!

with Rendon out this looks suspiciously like our 90 loss team from last year.

And highlights how little else the front office did besides Rendon.

Teheran is not great, but he is not bad either. I thought that was a good move. Probably can outperform Cahill. Sucks about the COVID-19 though.

Wow, Adell won’t be getting reps in the minors this year since there is no minor league play, why not have him on the roster and give him some playing time, unless they feel he is still over matched at the plate against MLB pitching.

If they give him playing time they also have to give him service time.

That’s not a problem in the fans’ opinion, but Moreno’s wallet doesn’t like it.

How many games does the team need to keep Adell down to not incur a service year? Is it 8 games? If so I think that’s their plan which I would be all for. No need to waste a year of service for your top prospect on a 60 game season.

August 1st, last time I checked.

Trout’s so fat..

How. Fat. Is. He?

He’s so fat, I thought he’d take up two roster spots.

So when Teheran is healthy, who’s first to go? Probably Sandoval.

Probably. Other option is moving Andriese to a long man bullpen role

Answer should be whoever is not pulling their weight. This is a big 60 game stretch for Eppler l would think, so keeping the winning personnel should be the key, not service time or who has options.

Not often we are carrying two lefty relievers. Joys of the 30 man roster

I think it’s refreshing, and indicative of the influence of Maddon/Callaway. I don’t think you’d see a finesse/junkballer lefty like Milner in a Scioscia pen, and the team would have sweated Buchter’s K rates against righties, despite him being effective across both RHBs/LHBs.

Mayers is the only slightly random selection here. He’s out of options, so I suspect they’re sheltering him for a bit to see if he can perform in low leverage contexts.

Not surprising that Adell didn’t make it. Without a spot for him to play every day, they probably don’t feel it necessary to have him up.

So how long are we gonna keep Jo Adell locked in our basement ( minors )?
At some point other organizations start getting suspicious about whether he can play or not. I keep reading from other CTPG’s members that Jo Adell and Jordyn Adams is proof that Eppler improved the farm system and I say no to that I want real proof not speculation. Back to my rant again about Eppler……two reasons why I believe he went for HS OF’s in back to back drafts, one he had to hedge his bets on the possibility Mike Trout would leave to pursue FA, and two he knew the Angel’s scouting and player development suck and OF’s are the easiest position to evaluate.

That’s a pretty hefty assumption based on the one data point of Adell getting left off the roster.

Especially when it is standard practice for teams to manipulate service time of promising prospects.

Griffin Canning didn’t stay stuck in the minors very long. I want to see him up at some point this year and not stay stuck to a obvious journeyman in Brian Goodwin.

Well, there wasn’t a lot of talent ahead of Griffin either since he’s on a team devoid of pitching talent.

If we start out very badly, especially if Brian Goodwin is barely hitting his weight then Jo Adell needs to be brought up. Billy Eppler needs to quit being a coward and let the guy play. Yeah I know I’m a big Billy Eppler detractor and thought he shouldn’t even be here right now. Jo Adell doesn’t have Christian Yellich or Aaron Judge in front of him either to your point.

Teams get an extra year of control by keeping prospects off the active roster until August 1st. So, about a week from today the Angels can call up Adell. Conveniently, that should be about the time Trout experiences the greatest day of his life.
