I wonder if the Rays just drank the Orioles’ milkshake by taking Nick Bitsko at #24.

Another kid from my neighborhood Mountain Pointe HS – Carson Tucker joins his brother Cole, the Cron bros, and Scott Kingery as well Jordan Kipper who threw a no hitter for Angels AA club from Mountain Pointe HS – a great baseball family we used to play LL with. Cole was on my step sons LL team and carson was just a toddler back in those days. we also went to same grade school

St Louis took Jordan Walker at #21. I wasn’t crazy in mocking him as a possible fit to the Angels at #10. One of the smartest drafting teams in baseball just took him, and ESPN laid a Troy Glaus comp on him.

Who do yall think we might get for our Rd 3 pick? I would personally be OK with picking all pitchers this draft. But honestly, we could also stand to pick a solid 1B prospect if one is just sitting there. We don’t really have a solid option in the pipeline. Maybe a SS who can shift to 2B?

I don’t feel like a HS pitcher that’s still around in round 3 is that great an idea. Maybe McCambley out of Coastal Carolina (spin rate)? If Nick Swiney is still around I’d draft Detmers 2.0 in round 3….. or Sam Weatherly out of Clemson, he’d make a nice prospect too.

Odd ball position prospects I could be happy about…. Daniel Susac (C) could maybe fall to us. That could be cool. Maybe Gage Workman (3B)

If the more sensitive Angels fans on the web can handle another NC State guy Tyler McDonough would be a great Rd4 pick if he’s still around…. reminds me of Ben Zobrist. Jacob Teter or Alec Burleson as 1B prospects….. though you can probably find 1B prospects post draft this year, and there are probably pitchers out there that are better picks that I just don’t know.

Super hard to predict given they don’t select until #82. I do like Daniel Susac. I’d be happy to see Texas A&M’s Christian Roa there, or local Nick Garcia to last it out, but I think there will be a rush on college pitching in the second round.

I like the power potential of Yohandy Morales or Cayden Wallace, but hard to know how signable prep guys are going to be in the third round.

Fingers crossed the league over-indexing towards collegiate pitchers causes someone to fall much further than they would in a normal year to us

Sweet to see the Cubs pick the homegrown Ed Howard. He was a southside kid, but still sweet.

I understand that the Angels were really torn between Howard and Detmers.

When do we make our R3 pick?

I like Detmars. Can’t argue with that at all.

Detmers was a safe/good pick. This high in the draft, I generally prefer chasing a little more upside (especially because I don’t think we’ll be bad enough to select in the top 10 again for a little), but the system sorely needed a prospect like Detmers. Him, Canning, and Sandoval could make for a nice 3-4-5 in the rotation for a while.

Yeah it’s not sexy but when we were good we had lots of solid depth guys like Saunders, Escobar etc. that could just give consistently competitive starts. Maybe not dominant, but solid. In a weird year with no 2nd pick, safe at position of need was probably the right call

Big time. A rotation of Ohtani, Heaney, Canning, Detmers, etc. isn’t a worldbeater, but it should keep them in games. Adell and Marsh could help the lineup take the next leap. Just keep loading up the lineup and bullpen.

Detmers, Bundy, Sandoval is a pretty cost efficient back 3.

Washburn fits that mold as well. As does Heaney, when he’s actually healthy.

Wow Al Leiter is saying Reid can be in the big leagues by next year. That’s a big stretch considering he probably won’t be playing anywhere this year.

ESPN was speculating *this* season as well if injuries necessitated it and Angels made postseason. He could be a taxi squad guy if they get him signed

All of those predictions are getting me excited because we all know we can use any extra pitching we can get ahead of time.

Most polished pitcher in the draft, really. A #3 guy due to average fastball, but his stuff is almost MLB-ready.

I will take that any day of the week! And if he can be in the big leagues by 2022 that’s a huge injection to the rotation that desperately needs upside.
