LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Infighting escalation

Good morning Angels fans. Hope you are doing well, or at least better than MLB right now. Have some links, but be wary, they are spicy.

Owners vs Players

MLB and the MLBPA are meeting and this is the most important week for the MLB in the last 25 years.

It is getting ugly now. MLB gave up the revenue sharing idea and going with just playing players less than prorated.

How much less? Well Jo Adell for example would get only 262K for the 2020 season. Here is the full list compared to what the players agreed to in March.

The players are obviously unhappy. The owners are allegedly also not doing enough for safety.

The owners did offer more playoff money to compensate but it is not nearly enough to offset the salary cuts.

Baseball writers are suspicious of the leaked proposal of the 50-50 split. Mostly that the owners were never serious and leaked it to be seen as reasonable.

Other bad news

Even the Mariners fans back at SB Nation are mad at Arte. Moreno is one of the ones pushing for pay cuts for the MLB players. He is worth 3.3 Billion and one of the richest owners by net worth.

Oh this is also when the Dodgers are paying their staff. They join the Twins and the Cardinals in commitment to not furlough.

A’s also aren’t looking good, as they refuse to pay the MiLB players starting in June. The players get 400 a month, so to not pay them is pinching pennies. That goes for staff too as the A’s refuse to pay them as well.

Health officials look over the Mlb plans. They are concerned about them pulling it off, but it is possible.

Other news

Athletes are essential workers now according to the Homeland Security Director.

White Sox cut 25 MiLB players but will still pay them for June. Including Vlad’s nephew Josue Guerrero.

Health is an issue for managers since the virus hits older people harder. Maddon is losing weight to help his chances just in case. Also in that same link, Bowling Green may have baseball again, still won’t use green logo.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes. Please do, especially if it is good news.

You are never happier than when you have something to bitch about. But I think we all pretty much agree with you on this.

Maybe Arte wants to hire white collar felons on work release to replace his scouting department.
Will Hunting or some real life guy like him would’ve been perfect.

I’ve given up hope of any baseball in 2020. They may try implementing a plan, but I think it’ll be abandoned.

Starting to look like that. The owners and players are not even close in negotiations. Then you have a multitude of “health experts” chiming in on their recommendations. Then there are the in game scenarios where a player is stealing a base, the throw comes down with the defender, player, AND umpire all being within 1 to 3 feet of each other. Could that open them up to being infected by COVID19, and who will an attorney try to pin the responsibility on? Yeah, this has quickly become a big “shit stew”, some of it both politically and media driven.
Could be that only time passing between now and next season can subdue the fears and issues regarding this virus.

I had hope before owners reneged and keep creating media spin to antagonize players. Now, not so much. Great time to start a baseball blog, right? 🙁

The bestest of times.

Create another blog, and leave links here, to your non baseball muses.

Can’t disagree with any of that.

I just don’t think you can keep the team isolated enough. Too many people working in a ballpark, before the team even arrives.

nay sayer! Nay you say! I’m still cautiously optimistic. If they don’t play at all BOTH sides lose a lot of money.

the owners claim that if they play they’ll lose more money than if they don’t play. That’s not believable but that’s one of the things they put out there.

Or players may get, and others, sick. Owners can be far away from the action, safe counting profits, or overhauling because they are not making enough. Owners would never hold the season if it meant losing money. The Money Game is all they are good at, and losers are not able to play that game. Ever.

Losing money, should not be a factor here. All parties have, they should, enough money to live without the game of baseball until next season. They need to just get things right, but as normal, no League(NFL, NBA, NHL, the rest) has taken the lead in this, so the others have no one to follow. The owners, are not original thinkers. They have a hard time making new money, out of new ideas. They just invest on the tried and true, and mostly, they sit on it.

Look at them with the salary negotiations. A laugher to say the least. Since when do the richer take a bigger cut than the rest? The owners don’t even pay their share of the taxes. “Hey Mike, take a 20% cut in pay. So will be able to sign the check for the guy bellow you taking the 10% cut. Me? I’m already not making the kind of money I used to. Come on man.”

I agree, Mia. On the other hand, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts tonight. So I’m moving on.

The owners are trying to push the blame to someplace where the season will not be canceled because of them, and kind of just runs out of time to happen. Then insurance will cover all the cost of not having a season, and the refunds that will have to be made to fans, TV, and everything. Just can’t break that contract before that. Bird Law 101.
