Angels @ Rangers 8/22/26

The outside may be ugly, but the inside is cool. Thanks Air Conditioning!

Angles pitching right now is hotter than BITCOIN. Invest!

And likely as volatile as the price of gas right now.

The Rangers needed Bob Uecker calling their game tonight. “That’s all we got? One GD hit?”

In addition to Bremner pitching tonight, new Angels acquisitions Angel Rivero and Mason McGwire (“Mark Jr”) take the mound tonight. It will be Rivero’s first A ball start (he was exclusively in the FCL before this).

Kikuchi’s services are no longer needed.

Kikuchi needs to be the sixth starter so the others don’t have to go down with “illness” to control their innings.

I guess we really didn’t need Maddux…

It’s looking that way.

I’m thinking the players didn’t like him

Snead, Gordon, and Bremner look fifth-starter-close. If spring training were a thing in 2027, you’d probably give each a long look at the rotation.

Kooooch! He’ll replace Johnson for the time being while we build up Kikuchi’s trade value.

If Kikuchi could flash for a few starts, the GM might be able to move him for a mid-tier prospect.

Neto is making it harder and harder for me to hate him.

Is Johnson good now? They should have fired Maddux earlier.

Michael Fulmer with a lead in the 8th? C’mon Kurt, we were just having good vibes.

Tyler Bremner keeping pace with Johnson tonight. Six innings of scoreless ball, only two softly hit singles, one of which should have been scored an error. Eight strikeouts, tons of whiffs on the change.

Arguably the toughest offense in the MiLB.

I love Neto looking good lately.

Pitching analytics? Yes please. Whatever they have changed – the starters have been lights out.

Seven innings of one-hit ball? Where in tarnation did all this competence sneak in from?

Very cool for Ryan Johnson to be doing this in his hometown field. Pretty awesome.

Kade kind of unraveled a bit in inning six – gave up two longballs and they pulled him.

3 ERs over 5.2 IP, five hits, five Ks in his debut. Most of the damage in the sixth.

Pretty good for a debut. One-run ball for five innings against a playoff-caliber Cubs team. Fatigued a bit in the final inning.

Not as bad as Laz Diaz or CB Bucknor, but who is?

I’m pretty sure those two are getting “force retired” at the end of the year. I didn’t mind Laz but CB was about 10 years overdue.

Per that dash, Pawol isn’t even in the top 20 of overturn rate – kind of middle of the pack.

She has caused a few ejections this year by denying challenges.

Smallish merciful counterpoint to Kade Anderson’s start tonight: Tyler Bremner is also pitching tonight for the Pandas, and is scoreless through his first four innings with four Ks.

He’s facing a Brewers club with 3-4 Top 100 prospects, including the top prospect in baseball, Jesus Made. He made Luis Pena (#21 prospect in baseball) look bad on a strikeout, and did the same with slugger Andrew Fischer. He’s held Made to two softly struck infield dribblers, one a “single” that was mishandled by Nick Rodriguez.

Scoreless through five now. Really nice separation between the FB (95-96) and changeup, which they just don’t know what to do with. As advertised, a ton of whiffs on the change.
