The New Look Angels are in play. It’s business as unusual. At the time of this writing, the results are similar. Kurt Suzuki is still making out the lineup cards. The Angels also still have No. 30 locked down in the mlb.com power rankings. Fangraphs is a little more positive. They gave the Angels a power ranking of 29th.
The future is bright with a halfway decent farm system, though. Folks are very high on Arjun Nimmala. Maybe Neto should watch his back. Prospects are a crap shoot, however. Both Holmes and Calabrese pictured above are gone now. Johnny Slawinski has right oblique tightness but they say it isn’t considered serious.
“[W]hat [John Mozeliak] believes is best for the organization in both the short and near term.” Aren’t short term and near term kind of the same thing? I’m confused. Maybe “near term” is code for 2028. “[W]hat do we really want leadership to look like moving forward.” was an interesting quote, by the way.
In Our Division
Luke Raley is likely out for the season, hence the Taylor Ward Trade. The Rangers activated left-hander Cody Bradford. We’ll see how his internal brace holds up.
Outside Our Division
It’s not just Jorge Soler. The Pirates are releasing Twelve Million Dollar Man Marcell Ozuna. They outrighted Chris Devenski who cleared waivers. It remains to be seen whether he will elect free agency. Dalton Rushing is probably down for the count with a partial UCL tear. The Guardians brought up infielder prospect Angel Genao for his MLB debut. They designated fellow infielder Gabriel Arias for assignment to make room.
The Blue Jays placed Trey Yesavage on the 15 day IL with knee inflammation. They claimed right-hander Matt Waldron off waivers from the Padres. Mike Tauchman opted out of his deal with the Mets. He is now a free agent. Former Padre Alex Dickerson, after knocking around in independent baseball for four years, announced his retirement. The Padres designated German Marquez for assignment.
The Royals acquired Jacob Berry from the Marlins for cash. It’s allowed because Berry hasn’t been on a 40 man roster all season. Here is a breakdown of the pertinent rules. The White Sox DFAd Austin Hays. The Nationals placed Joey Weimer on release waivers and designated Zack Littell for assignment. Hunter Greene is back on the injured list with elbow soreness.
The Women’s Professional Baseball League’s inaugural season is underway. They have four teams and play seven inning games but at least it’s something different. With luck, they can focus on baseball instead of all the griping that happens over in the WNBA.
