Angels Beat themselves, allow Yankees to celebrate On Jackie Robinson Day

It was Jackie Robinson Day, and everyone was wearing 42. Now Yankees fans will be annoying about it due to Mariano Rivera, but it isn’t about him.

How was the SP 42 doing today? Well, Jack of 1 trade did a good job having more than 1 as he went 6 and 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4. A Quality Start against the MFY. That is all we could ask for.

6k That’s pretty neat

The Hitters, the team had to survive without Soler for the next 4 games, as his suspension appeal finally was dealt with. Luckily, Trout has been even hotter and the team as a whole has been doing well offensively as of late, even if they strike out a ton.

Highlighted Recap

Things started badly with a Judge home run in the first

1-0 MFY

And then 2 more were allowed in the 2nd

3-0 MFY

It could have been worse, but Fraizer made a great play.

Was before the hit but whatever

And then hit a home run in the 3rd.

3-1 MFY

In the 5th, Logan hit his first home run of the season, making it a 1 run game.

3-2 MFY

And then Mike Trout gave the Angels the lead soon after.

4-3 ANGELS!

Mike Trout had now hit 4 home runs this series!

Jack K left after 6 and 2/3 with the lead, and the next pitcher was bailed out by a great play by Fraizer.

Still 4-3 Angels

Romano came out to close, and he again was wild. Panic set in for the Angel fans, luckily, defense bailed him out of an extra base hit.

Whew

And then made it worse by having a ball drop in the INFIELD ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

A walk and a base hit means Yankees win. Angels lose TWICE this series in stupid STIUPID ways.

Upcoming

Angels have one more in NYC tomorrow morning and then face the Padres at the Big A. We are meeting up on Sunday, in time for Soler to come back!

Well, a misplayed pop-up in this game was decisive, but how about some good, fun MiLB news?

Slick fielding Nelson Rada hit his first HR of the year tonight in Salt Lake! And it was hilariously on the same night as (hypothetical) slugger Christian Moore hit his this season.

Maybe Rada sees some MLB action soon and the collective defense tightens up a bit?

Rada and Moore were also responsible for Salt Lake’s walk-off victory tonight.

Rada is now hitting .302/.415/.415 for the Bees with plus defense in center.

Speaking of Romano and how stupid Kurt was for putting him in the game, he was the Angels best option during the Spring. Yates was banged up so unable to fight for the late inning relief job and Pomeranian struggled and had his issues. Romano was uncorked upon in the first 6 games of the regular season, then had his back-to-back bad outings at Yankee stadium. I can see Kurt’s logic putting him in the game with only one bad inning all year. Now…I don’t like Romano, I would have never signed him but Kurt has a pile of dookie in the pen. Pick your poison. Thanks Perry.

At the risk of infuriating Romano haters here, I will say that he induced a no-doubt fieldable pop-up that would have meant two outs and no one on – and a close to 90% win expectancy.

Even had the same walk and hit followed, it’s likely a first and third situation and a strong likelihood the Angels would have won the game. But more likely, with no one on base, the pitcher would have been a little less fine, and the game ends earlier.

The difference between the walk and a strikeout of Wells was a 96.1mph fastball an inch off the inside corner. That was a pitcher’s pitch, and could have been a game ender if Peraza had caught that ball.

I’m in NYC on business and caught the game. I wish I hadn’t. I hate losing to NY regardless, but the way this went down absolutely made my blood boil. A little league pop up that wasn’t caught? Inexcusable. Would have been two out and nobody on. I love Neto, but he needs to take charge. Why are you deferring to a journeyman player? What should have been a joyous outcome, with Yankees fans swimming in their tears, ended with that dumpster fire and the endless loop of Sinatra’s New York, New York. Typical Angels.

I would be very careful about giving Neto that big contract. Million dollar talent – ten cent head.

I’m enjoying watching Mike Ttout, wins and losses are secondar for me. With a Trout-like year, this could be the off-season he finally demands a trade.

I think you means wins and losses aren’t in your top 5? We as fans don’t care about wins and losses. Arte told us so.

I wouldn’t get too excited as three homers at the Yankee launching pad barely count, right?

Right?

On that pop up in the 9th. Who’s fault is that? Is the SS supposed to take charge in this scenario?

From this day forward, I will replace Romano cheese in ANY recipe that calls for it, and will never use ANYTHiNG or company with the name Romano. It is bad, bad luck.

I was a pretty decent baseball player in high school decades ago. My throwing arm is still in good shape. How do I get a hold of Perry for a contact to be in bullpen for the Halos?. I don’t need league minimum salary, perhaps a few gift cards to the Olive Garden. I am ready and able to suit up during the next home stand.

Well, that sucked.

Wasted another clutch homer by Trout.

Kudos to our starter. He was Silent-C(rap) in the 1st inning and then became Special-K for the final 5.2 innings.

I’ve held off on bashing Kurt, but, now he truly deserves it. Bachman, with his power stuff, should’ve gotten the call tonight. Drats.

We should be 3-0 in this series. Tomorrow, we get Max Fried, so we likely lose 3 of 4.

Tonight is the fourth game the Angels have absolutely blown this season, late in the games. The 3rd game in Houston. The extra inning game vs the Mariners during last homestead and the two during this series.

My frustration is that the team has some promise, but they make such dumb mistakes, and they are the same mistakes that they were making last year, and we are supposed to have real coaches, etc.

“Just weren’t ready to agree” ?

Really ? Not sure what comments you read, but Turk was very vociferously defending Romano. I even specifically stated he’d blow the the next save chance he got and he pushed back against it …..

He was not just expressing light scepticism of my view, but HE PUSHED BACK hard against it. Trojan was not as vocal, I must say.

But nice try on the defense of TT Eric.

Exactly. I never said Romano is definitely amazing. I just didn’t agree with writing off a player who had a good spring and backed it up with 5 good regular season games.

But yeah, it’s starting to look like he’s still 2025 Romano after all.

I’m not apologizing for saying you can’t judge a player after one bad game. Even if your snap judgement is looking to be correct.

How fragile is your ego dude?

Fragile ? And who is “judging on just one game.” ??

I specifically provided stats from the last two years. Not one game dude, lol.

And I went into alot of detail….

Please don’t tell me you are still defending this guy as our Closer ?

Are you ???

Maybe you were complaining about how terrible he was after each of his four saves as well. If that’s the case then sure, I’ll agree that it wasn’t a snap judgement based on one game.

It felt like a lot of people around here, not you specifically, were ready to jump all over him at the first sign of trouble. It got real loud after one bad game.

I wasn’t ready to – but after to back to back blown saves, yeah he’s probably not closer material.

If you watched him pitch in 2024-25 you knew he wasn’t the closer. Never should have been.

Bachman has better stuff and is controlled longer, and maybe it’s time to see if he can handle it and stay healthy. 2026 isn’t the season this team wins anything. It’s a season where you keep figuring out who is worth developing and seeing if they can contribute long term.

Perfect time for Bachman to be tested. Instead we get a retread who SUCKS and has sucked for three years.

It’s a self inflicted wound. Just unnecessary.

Romano has been a terrible pitcher the past three seasons, why was he signed? And then an alleged closer???? Beyond the absurdity of the botched pop up, the batter prior to that ripped the pitch and Teo saved an extra base hit. Bad defense, bad pitching, very bad manager decision. A disaster loss.

Yea he hasn’t had a good season since 2023. Angels gave him 2 million which isn’t a lot but after 3 bad seasons, he was the definition of a NRI. Perry can’t lose his job soon enough. Manoah is washed too, he hasn’t had a good season since 2022. Again another guy that got 1.95 million when he should have just been an NRI. 4 million could have gotten someone.
