LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: MAMA MIA!

Morning Angels fans, have some links.

Angels News

How does MLB Network think of the Angels? It is finally time for 30 clubs in 30 days, and the Angels get less than 20 minutes in their video.

So since we will finally see the Angels on TV for those Spring games vs the Dodgers, will it feel like Baseball is back finally? And how much will you watch? I get that things are dicey with the team, with Arte, and so on, but I did promise last year that we will meet up, so, next game meetup will be SUNDAY APRIL 19th 2026 VS THE PADRES. It is a 1 PM game. A thread will open with the link to the Google sheet for those whop want to come as I will be buying the tickets again.

Around Baseball

USA lost to Italy, putting them on the brink of elimination. What a pathetic display on the world stage.

The WBC Pool play has almost ended, most of the teams have moved onto the next round or been sent home. From Pool A, Puerto Rico has moved on as will the winner of Canada vs Cuba today.

In Pool B, it is a 3 way tie between the US, Italy, and Mexico. Italy VS Mexico will decide what 2 of the 3 teams make it.

MATH TIME

Pool C it is Japan and Korea in a really close 3 way tie for 2nd over Australia and Taiwan. Pool D is Venezuela and the DR.

What really matters for most teams is that they had fun and hey, at least won one game. Except for Brazil, Czechia, and Nicaragua that is. Going 0-4 has to suck, and they will have to requalify for the next time. But hey, at least Czechia had one player put up a fight against team Japan.

In other news, the Mariners are playing with their food. Wish the Angels had that level of creativity.

To be fair, sometimes things should not be made. Like this Yardgoats Hot Dog Donut… thing.

Are the Rays cursed by paving over a cemetery for their parking lot? All I know is my gut says maybe.

Wanna get MLB.TV for free? Tmobile is still giving it away for free. Out of market games only of course…

Los Angeles Angels signed 18yr old Canadian HS free agent 3B/SS Kason Siguenza to a minor league contract. He’s Waiting on work Visa to join team in AZ.

NDFA prep signs are so rare – that’s an intriguing selection, well off my radar.

i have access to a lot of HS stats – and this is beyond off the radar. Shows him pitching in a game in 2025 and throwing only 80 mph as a 17 year old. Throws 84 across the infield with three shuffles. Long arm slot. 7 flat 60. 93 max exit velo off live with metal. (not pg which is wood with a tee.) Would not play short on a good high school team. Did they need a new hot dog vendor? This has to be a favor. This is a Division III quality player – and I’m not talking Chapman College. I’m talking the teams with quotas that need players.

The WBC game by team USA yesterday was a joke. Not shocked the way the teams offense has just sucked vs starting pitchers who are nobody’s. How many men do you leave in scoring position? Oh no, it’s washed Lorenzen who is actually MLB so let’s go scoreless against him?? Skubal’s effort a joke, just wants his name on team if they win. Mexico just has to beat Italy in a low scoring game andUSA is done. Depending on scoreboard one team may tank on purpose to remove US. This sure ain’t the US Hockey Team.

The USA team thought they had already locked-in advancement. They were hungover from celebrating and thought it was a throw-away game.

In this case, it was a dumb manager who didn’t understand the system.

None of that “they thought they’d locked down advancement” shit mattered once the game started. They knew they had a game in front of them, they knew they needed to score and prevent runs to win, and they sucked so they lost. DeRosa’s brain wasn’t pitching or hitting.

It matters if either:

1) they were playing worse due to being tired and/or hungover, or
2) the manager made different personnel decisions because he didn’t realize every run mattered.

Yes! Let’s speculate on things we don’t know!

It’s kinda what’s done on here.

I’ll definitely be at least one of the Padres games in town… might even wear my Padres gear

I personally would like to have less of that speculation.

#2 is factually accurate tho. Derosa admitted to it 😂

Did they not know, while playing the Italy game that they were not already in the quarter final? Or did he think they were in right after the Mexico win when they were all chuffed and then get told later that they weren’t? Did they really show up yesterday, go through all the pregame shit, and no one knew they needed to win to secure advancement?

I haven’t read about it because work, etc

gitchogritchoffmypettis

But what if several players realized before the game that they needed to beat the shit out of Italy in order to dominate the entire world? So they got super angry, especially at all those other professional baseball players who got hammered in March while they were getting ready for the upcoming MLB season and thought they had a quarter-final game in a couple days, so they snorted a pile of cocaine and went all ape shit. Their frenzied play actually resulted in too many errors and aggressive at bats? Oh no! Que lastima!

What’s worse is the other players, still in a drunken stupor, didn’t even realize that they were on TV and had zero feelings at all about losing to Italy in front of the entire world. This was boosted even more by the ketamine that Mike Piazza had slipped into their juice smoothies that afternoon.

All while DeRosa made questionable line up decisions like starting Turang and botching his in game management by not stopping several players from swinging at pitches or throwing hittable pitches because THE FIX was in and he was distracted by the pet parrot Mathew Boyd had brought to the game that day.

How could we expect to win when this guy is an ultramaroon?

And, if you’re just guesstimate shit to be critical about, why not throw a little zazz into it?

I think the players got ambushed and looked flat, but he did set the lineup. I don’t think their algorithm would have had Clements over Turang. I get he’s trying to have everyone contribute – but I don’t think a manager not worrying about playing time makes that move.

We are already planning to be at the game on the 19th. We will be going with my son’s little league. Arriving early to tailgate and then the kids all get field access before the game.

That being said, we will have tickets with that group. But if you guys are somewhere without security bouncers, I’ll try to drop in and say hi!

Glad you mean April 19th.

That March 19th game of Future Stars will be brutal with temperatures over 100 F. They should make it a night game. It will be interesting to see what crowds show up late next week – it won’t be any fun, you will melt.

We will be at spring training this weekend! Looks like highs around 90 though which is manageable.

Correction- they should make all games in AZ late next week start at 10am.

Starting Friday’s game (101 F projected) would be insane!

First, thanks to John Henry for that graphic. I had the rudimentary calculations that if Mexico scores 5+ earned runs tonight, we are in, and with that home field advantage tonight and an expected emotional let down from the Paisanos, I expect us to advance.
🇺🇸 🇲🇽 . In the big picture, Italia has already been a huge winner but tonight it ends

And thanks for Gunner for rallying the boys to put some runs on the board. Unless that happened, it’d be game over for USA. I’ve been watching most games except from Asia and have really enjoyed the thing (except for the Brazilian walk fest), and the best is yet to come!

With Skenes and Skubal waiving the white flag, I just lost interest in the USA Team. Proof that this nothing more than a fun exhibition and not to be taken seriously. Just get everyone playing time and enjoy the festivities.

I can’t fault any player like Skubal who is willing to contribute a few innings. Even though we have no chance in 2026, I’d be pretty pissed if Kikuchi comes up lame out of the tournament.

The glass 1/4 full view? All of these countries will consider it a lifetime highlight when they beat Team USA at baseball. So maybe we are helping spread the sport? Like I am getting more into hockey cause we beat good teams? Or when the UCSB Gauchos beat UNLV’s super teams back in the day? Hell, I may care about soccer for ten minutes if our World Cup team ever does anything.

There could be some Italian boys trying to figure out how to buy a baseball mitt in Naples right now….

Manoah’s grip on the last spot in the rotation is tenuous at best. Silent C is gonna get closer to snatching it after Manoah gets lit up again today

I remain completely skeptical of Manoah and Rodriguez so if it’s just Grayson who hits, I’d be happy.

I think anyone counting on Manoah to be a piece of the starting five out of the gate is crazy – yes Perry, that means you. The guy is washed.

I think Manoah is just part of “the pile”. Having the pile is good. It doesn’t matter if Manoah washes out if Silent C started working hard the day we signed him to a dinky ST invite contract.

Just send Manoah to SLC. If he gets it together, even bigger bonus. If not, who cares? All teams do this. It’s OK. You’re gonna be all right.

RexFregosi

yep. no one should’ve penciled in part of the pile for a spot in the rotation

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Reply to  RexFregosi

Who penciled him in? Are you talking about “online rosterbation resource?” Thus far, the team doesn’t seem fiercely devoted to Manoah making the rotation. Seems like he’s one of a couple options.

I mean, I guess if you have to make a list of five guys before camp starts you drop Manoah’s name on their. But for fk sake, take a Klonopin and calm down. Much like yourself, I haven’t seen Perry’s little notepad, but I doubt he wrote Manoah in there with a Sharpie at any point.

When we signed Manoah I thought it was a fine low-risk move. We now have data on him, and neither is his stuff or command MLB quality anymore. He’ll pitch himself out of the majors soon enough so I don’t really care, but I do want to see our younger and better pitching options be given the opportunity.

“He’ll pitch himself out of the majors soon enough”

Umm, he did already – May 2024, 24 innings, and the book was closed.

I think, if the Angels had some crazy good prospects ready to go, we’d see less of Manoah getting a shot. The guys got 7IP thus far, which ranks him last among the guys we’ve been giving starter sized innings to. It’s not like we’re ignoring Trey Yesavage to give Manoah every opportunity. Klassen is still getting innings. Bremner’s had zero innings and I’m glad because I want him in the minors…. I just don’t see WTF there is to complain about here other than lack of talent. Are we wasting Ferris while Manoa pitches? Is Rex just butt hurt because Shores could be pitching those innings?

Manoah is filler. Especially while Kikuchi is gone.

The Tmobile free mlb.tv is the only reason my whole family is still with that phone service. We are all California born but now live in NC. Works great for us to catch all the Angels and Padres games we can watch. Don’t have to worry about to many blackouts

I like Dero a lot – one of the best on MLB Network. But when I saw Clement playing over a red hot Turang against a RHP heavy team- I said to myself, “this is how you lose games.” If this is a World Series – Turang is playing. If they are out – Team USA needs to bring in a proven manager – not a broadcaster.

Derosa believing that the USA clinched before last night’s game is indefensibly ignorant. Screw it let’s go 🇲🇽 + 🇮🇹 !

I watched that game that Satoria pitched for Czechia, and he was making hitters look stupid with his low velocity movement and could make a nice pen addition for an MLB team. Of course I’m not sure he would want to leave his lucrative electrician job.

DUDE! Yes! That guy is the highlight of the WBC for me so far, great last series too. I’d love it if a team picked that guy up. The Czech Jaime Moyer.

as good as L. Ramirez and S. Aldegheri have been, my Angel highlight was H. Victor striking out the core of the USA line-up.

My highlight of the tourney though will always be seeing Team USA play in Snottsdale.
