Angels take on the White Sox at Camelback Ranch at 3:05 PM
LA Angels at Chicago White Sox
It would have been cool if I could have seen Bremner pitch with my very own eyes. His stat line looks like “nervous young pitcher survives debut”. Teodosio and Paris. Messin with my emotions again…
I think “nervous young pitcher survives debut” is probably just about right.
He does need some development, and I hope the Angels have patience, because there’s rich diversity of pitches there, if he can learn to command his secondaries.
On draft day, I had the five collegiate first-round arms stack ranked Anderson, Arnold, Witherspoon, Bremner, Doyle. (All defensible selections, all clear Top 20 picks.)
We’ve seen Anderson, Arnold and Bremner debut now, and I’d keep that same stack ranking.
Did Brady Anderson slip Peraza some juice?? Another hard hit ball — 108 mph double — and rocking a 1.070 OPS
Peraza is making his case – he’s the better glove too. I don’t think Moore and Grissom have made theirs.
I know the org seems keen on Candelario, but I’m still skeptical. I’d probably opt for Paris over him.
Moore looks not ready at all. Grissom? WTF? I’ve always liked him but he looks like he forgot how to hit.
I’m fine with Bremner going only one today. Those walks upped his pitch count into the low 20s.
Also your Frazier pick to make the roster is looking better and better. CMo is struggling, albeit his EVs have been strong, and Grissom hurt his left hand
Frazier seemed like he’d make the team upon signing to me, absent a really bad spring.
Moore has some good underlying metrics (hard hit %, max EV), still very aggressive. But really needs time in the minors, I think.
Hopefully the booboo for Grissom can let them sneak him through waivers – I’d hate to see Isaiah Jackson traded for nothing – because I wouldn’t roster him over Frazier and Peraza at the moment.
Glad to see Bremner get outta those two walks. Seemed a little wild on GameDay. Anyone watching? How did the stuff look?
So far, as advertised, both of Bremner’s first two outs were on the change.
Yep. I liked his mix of pitches and changes of location in that inning. He didn’t over use the fastball.
His portfolio is great – but command across all of his pitches, save maybe his change, is the issue. I’d say FB and SL shape are also works in progress. Command was less of an issue in ’24, but was more so in ’25.
He was clearly trying to test his slider and cutter in this outing.
FB at 97-99, but not locating anything. On three strikes among his first 11 thrown. Back to back walks.
Nerves are a part of it, I’m sure.
Got a called strikeout on the change, his best pitch.
I mean, the outcome was good, but the command was not. Even the third out – there wasn’t a single pitch remotely in the zone. Meidroth was his best matchup.
Throwing 99 is nice, but not if it’s a foot above the zone.
Meanwhile the middle of the A’s order has launched 5 HRs (from five different hitters, all active roster guys) in the first five innings.
West Sacramento’s offense has been firing on all cylinders over the past week or so, even with a slow spring from Kurtz. The pitching on the other hand is still very much a WIP.
If he were to be out, who would you go with right now between Klassen, Kochanowicz, Farris, Urena & Aldegheri?
Not Farris or Urena. Farris has gained FB velocity, but its impacting his command, and it’s still hittable. Urena too volatile and struggles with length, needs more seasoning.
I’d make it a contest between Klassen, Koch, and Sam down the stretch.
Makes sense. My question was also assuming that Caden Dana’s illness set him too far back and that Bremner is not ready. This is the Angels though so who knows their process.
