He must profile as a Starter on the Angels
I just remembered that the Angels A Ball affiliate is moving to Cockroach Ranch this year. That’s a good upgrade that makes me 3% happier….
Mariners signed Naylor. Damn. It would have made almost no sense to sign Naylor here. We totally missed the chance to do it though. Come on Perry. Do the right thing!
You guys remember when poons on this site used to cry out to the heavens for our GM to “do the right thing” like it was a moral choice whether or not to sign Patrick Corbin or Javier Baez? Like we were the Israelites crying out to God to deliver us from Egypt? That shit was ridiculous.
Estimates for spending this offseason for the IIWPM series may be overestimated;
“The Los Angeles Angels have plenty of issues to address this offseason if they’re to claw their way out of last place in the AL West in 2026, but ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez provided a concerning update on their offseason plans:
“Angels owner Arte Moreno is always prone to change his mind, but at the moment, the expectation is that he won’t be spending big this offseason, especially with the civil trial related to Tyler Skaggs’ death continuing,” Gonzalez wrote. “That leaves general manager Perry Minasian with few options to fill a variety of holes throughout his roster, most notably: third base, second base, center field, starting pitching and the back end of the bullpen.”
Potential silver lining: Trimming budget, GM contract expiring at the end of the year, and refusing to give the manager a contract longer than 1-year, are all things one would do if planning to sell the team.
Yes, but it’s also just as likely that Arte is coming to grips with writing a large check to Skaggs heirs.
The trial is not going well for the Angels.
Rusty Hardin’s job is to trash the Angels front office.
He’s really good at his job.
It doesn’t really matter if he’s doing it cause Skaggs or cause lockout or cause it’s the smart thing to do. As long as I don’t here any big splashes I’m happy. I don’t even want him pissing away 10+ million on Jansen. Why does this team currently need a closer? Just get a bunch of guys some leverage inning experience. Build Joyce back up, etc. We need about 4 good arms in the pen. Let’s start burning through what we have and then burn through more till we find em.
Good. He needs to build a foundation and some sturdy walls for this house before he starts buying all the granite countertops and shiplap fanboy wants him to spend on so he can look at it and feel good.
Spending more than what he spent last year on basically the same roster would be stupid and he should be cutting payroll. After all, we won right? He’s losing money. So we should feel chuffed about him tightening the belt. I don’t care what he says (or has PTP say) about contending and competing as long as he starts acting like the owner of a team that sucks and has no easy way out.
