.500 Is Elusive Postgame

The Angels had a chance to complete a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks and head to the All Star break at an even .500. Instead, the defense failed them repeatedly and led to a loss.

The good news is that we’re seeing Mike Trout looking like Mike Trout again. He got the Angels on the board early with an RBI single.

Unfortunately, we did not see Mike Trout on defense today. Instead, we saw Yoan Moncada make an error in the 4th that opened the floodgates and ultimately led to 3 unearned runs in the inning. Lamont Wade Jr. got into the fun in the 5th and made an error that led to another run. After pitching 5 innings, Jose Soriano had allowed 5 runs with only 1 of them earned. The defense was simply that bad today.

Well, it wasn’t all bad today. Jo Adell made a heck of a play in the top of the 6th inning that saved a leadoff double.

While disappointing to lose, this wraps up a 4-3 homestand. The team split 4 games against a tough Texas squad then won the series against Arizona.

I think if back in March I told you Jo Adell would be a beast, Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel would continue to develop, and that the team would only be 2 games under .500 at the All Star break most of you would’ve been skeptical. If I threw in sweeps of LA in LA and the Roid Sux at home, you’d say I was lying to you.

This team is far from complete, but we are seeing signs. Up next is a brutal road trip through Philly and the Mets.

So, the Angels have found a way to build a better team through only having pitchers in the minors?

Wow, I gotta say I didn’t see that coming.

Maybe we could do a couple of international signings of 15/25 year-olds.

This year’s team is better than last, but appear to be .500 aversive.

He will pitch for the Halos as much as Stephenson has. Sad sad sad.

Chase Shores P, LSU

He has already had Tommy John surgery. What a trainwreck of a draft.

If the Angels shit the bed on this draft, maybe —just MAYBE—they don’t deserve such diehard Fandom?

Hahahahahah. I went to the local brewery today and a 65 year old widower told me to not “let my kids cheer for a AAA team anymore.” Hard to argue with the way things are going. Can’t wait for the pithy rationalization from the acerbic apologists.

As a Raiders fan I spent more years than I can count trying to talk myself into obviously bad draft picks only for them to go exactly how you’d expect.

Its hard to stop being a fan of a team you’ve chosen…but yeah, maybe if this team keeps stepping on rakes every year and nothing ever changes you can spend your money somewhere else until things change meaningfully.

Dude…I’m a silver and black fan too. This draft giving me so much Raiders PTSD. I’m never gonna change, can’t if I wanted, but they really don’t deserve us.

There is so serious lack of hustle with some of the Angels. Looking at 3b and LF.

On an actual playoff team, Ward would not be an every day player. Rengifo just plain sucks. Hope Perry can get some good snacks for the clubhouse for him.

Both Rengifo and Moncada are clowns.

We need some serious players guys… I mean look at our Future Hall of Famer Mike Trout… for whatever you have to say about him being injury prone, when he is on the field he takes the shit seriously…

He is not out there laughing and joking around like Rengifo and Moncada. GET SERIOUS….

If you want to be taken seriously as a team then you have to BE SERIOUS.

These guys should handle their business like Mike and things would be alot better.

3B is such an important position defensively… I mean, it is now BOTH Rengifo and Moncada that have cost us games with their horrible defense… Today with the way Moncada ole’d that DP grounder…. it was pathetic. Until we clean up our defense I don’t see us getting over .500 again …

A tough old school manager ala Billy Martin would have pulled Moncada’s ass off the field. That is what we need. Some leadership that demands accountability.

We don’t have that now.

Sports are a reflection of society writ large. The days of “old school, hard ass” managing, wether it’s the sports or working world, are largely gone. Accountability is probably regarded as “colonialism” or some other negative label in the current zeitgeist.

I still think this team has some discernible building blocks and guys like Moncada won’t be here for long. In fact, I hope we move Moncada for whatever we can get since he doesn’t figure into our plans anyway.

And yeah, this team is in dire need an everyday 3rd baseman.

Yeah, I mean we do have some really awesome young talent. I love Neto, I love O’Hoppe (despite his slumping you KNOW he cares, cares about winning and is a team guy first and foremost, unlike Rengifo…) and I am stoked that Jo looks like he has finally developed into a real Major League talent, not just with the bat, but his defense and baserunning have improved immensely…

So, I don’t want to discount those positives…. it is just so depressing to lose a game against an inferior team which we rightly should have won. We can’t afford to lose games to an inferior team. Once in a while it happens, but with us it is a regular occurrence and it is holding us back …

Clean up defense
Clean up pitching
Clean up hitting
Clean up running
Clean up managerial decisions

We are so forked.

Well, at least for this homestand the hitting did not have to be cleaned up all that much… two stinkers but the other games the bats were on fire … My emphasis here goes on managerial decisions and DEFENSE !

Good teams don’t beat themselves.

I’ve got you beat — with today included I have been to three.

No more. I will not go to another game until/unless this team is 5 games over .500 or 3 games over with an 8 game winning streak along the way. I don’t see it happening so likely won’t be going to another game this year….

Seeing Soriano YET AGAIN walk the lead-off guy on 4 PITCHES immediately after his team gives him the lead is more than I can take. Where is the coaching to get in this guys face and shake him and wake him up ?

Would Bud Black have let that go on and on ? I seriously doubt it.

Seriously, why didn’t Perry trade down to get extra picks if he took someone not expected to be drafted in the top 10?

WallyChuckChili

Should’ve traded it for 3 number 1 picks in the next 3 years once Wilits was picked.

Draft Day!

I didn’t realize that the MLB has the stupid rule that you can’t trade draft picks. Perry got guys that he won’t have to pay. So sad.

Perry is the worst
He can’t draft pitchers at all
Arte counts his cash
