The Angels had a chance to complete a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks and head to the All Star break at an even .500. Instead, the defense failed them repeatedly and led to a loss.
The good news is that we’re seeing Mike Trout looking like Mike Trout again. He got the Angels on the board early with an RBI single.
Unfortunately, we did not see Mike Trout on defense today. Instead, we saw Yoan Moncada make an error in the 4th that opened the floodgates and ultimately led to 3 unearned runs in the inning. Lamont Wade Jr. got into the fun in the 5th and made an error that led to another run. After pitching 5 innings, Jose Soriano had allowed 5 runs with only 1 of them earned. The defense was simply that bad today.
Well, it wasn’t all bad today. Jo Adell made a heck of a play in the top of the 6th inning that saved a leadoff double.
While disappointing to lose, this wraps up a 4-3 homestand. The team split 4 games against a tough Texas squad then won the series against Arizona.
I think if back in March I told you Jo Adell would be a beast, Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel would continue to develop, and that the team would only be 2 games under .500 at the All Star break most of you would’ve been skeptical. If I threw in sweeps of LA in LA and the Roid Sux at home, you’d say I was lying to you.
This team is far from complete, but we are seeing signs. Up next is a brutal road trip through Philly and the Mets.
