Things looked good early for the Angels. The first two batters of the game reached based against a struggling Charlie Morton. Three consecutive strikeouts followed to end the threat. That pretty much ended the Angels hopes for the night.
Baltimore scored a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead and that was all they needed. The Orioles doubled the lead in the 5th inning and that 2-0 score proved to hold.
A game that was delayed by rain had another rain delay and finished at nearly midnight in Baltimore. Angels bats went to sleep a lot earlier, though. Our squad had 8 hits on the night, all singles.
I’d link some highlights, but there aren’t any.
Wade and Moore are two additions that add little besides more Ks. I was fine with Kingery and Lugo if we’re not really trying.
Watching UCLA v Murray State right now. All small ball and defense. Effectively executed bunts. Probably the opposite of the LSU v Arkansas game later tonight.
So if you still consider Rengifo a yute, The Angels had 6 youngin’s and 3 grizzled vets in the lineup last night ( Wade, Soler & Trout) The 6 yules were 6 for 21(all singles) 1 walk but 6 strikeouts. While the Vets were an even more horrible 2 for 12 ( all singles) with no walks and 9! Strikeouts.
So much for mentoring the kids. Maybe we should just play the Yutes and bench the vets?
I hate to say it but I think Mike needs to be moved out of the 3 slot, and maybe back down to the 5 hole…
Who we should bat 3rd instead is another question…
How about moving him to Philly?
Likely will never happen now due to his physical deterioration but would really appreciate if we could find a way
I agree. Ward and Adell have power but there’s so much swing and miss throughout.
Again, I think Johnny Washington has to shoulder much of the blame because it is a TEAM wide problem, not just one or two players..
I agree. A team that is trying would’ve already tried something else.
Ward is only good at popping some homers. OPS wise, he is not even in the Top 10 LFs in the game. Move him this year.
Moncada was doing a pretty good job of holding down the three hole before he got injured.
.259/.348/.552
Could use him about now.
No doubt. The problem for Wash he doesn’t have alot of options to plug into the middle of the lineup right now.
I agree. Washington is actually improving a bit as the year progresses, but the roster isn’t. Adding Moore to this lineup simply means more Ks and shaky D. Wade is more shit thrown up against the wall which won’t stick.
Agree. Funny you should say that Turk because I was thinking that same thing earlier this morning… if he could only stay healthy.
For multiple reasons. He actually contributes on both sides of the game, and a healthy Moncada would have the most trade value at the deadline, given how many contenders need 3B upgrades at the moment.
Why he’s a frustrating player – a ton of upside, predictably thwarted by injury.
I’d get rid of all the Cubans on the team, not a fan of their overall game, too selfish
Lwade or soler. Or lugo
Go Halos. All about the youngsters. LFG
I’d be thrilled to get 3 wins on this road trip. If Jo has truly arrived, he will make some big marks in Yankee Stadium. I think he will show up.
Everything White Sox fans told us about Yoan appears to be true.
on Christian, yeah it’s going to be bumpy; he is just now starting to figure things out (2025), but he will and then, watch out – he will be a force in MLB for a long time. (2026+). My sense is he is even more competitive than Trout. The mental game is vey strong with this kid.
We will see a lot of swings and misses, he will get schooled, he will get an education – chillax, this isn’t about getting to first place by July, it’s about development of a future super star.
Go Bruins! Has anyone eve had an easier path to Omaha? And instead of an SEC team, their first game is against Murray State. Nice story but I hope UCLA keeps going.
Arkansas/LSU in the later game – that would be a good final. This should finally be Arkansas’ year, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
Welcome to the Angels, Wade – you fit right in: 4 at-bats, 3 strikeouts.
Welcome to the show, Moore – you also fit right in: 3 at-bats, 1 strikeout, left 4 men on base.
For Saturday & Sunday, Angels start 2 left handers.
Orioles are 4-15 against starting left-handed pitchers.
These are the 2 best chances for Angels to win during this 10-game stretch.
The 4 games in New York and 3 games against Houston will not be pretty.
I fully expect us to lose 3 out of 4 in New York… Hendricks starting on Tuesday is an automatic loss. He will get rocked. I have already talked about how Houston has strategically planned to take us down in the series next weekend be revamping their pitching.
These Texas teams understand the importance of divisional games. We don’t. We just roll out whoever’s turn it is to pitch without regard for matchtups, statistics or relative importance of the games… That is why the Astros will win that very important series in Anaheim next week, with Hunter Brown (a likely All Star) shutting our bats down in that series determining first game on Friday the 20th. It will probably be 4-1 or 5-1, with our offense barely making a whimper.
As far as the remaining two games here in Baltimore you can be pretty sure the Angels did not orchestrate things to have the two left-handers. Just luck of the draw for them. But I still fear this series could be a sweep for the O’s with Sugano, a tough control type pitcher who shut us down in Anaheim in April going tonight.
Our best chance to take a game may be to salvage Sunday’s game with a so-far unimpressive Cade Povich taking the hill for Baltimore. Knowing the Angels however, it is these kinds of guys who get healthy against us. Overall, I have a hard time seeing this road trip being a good one … right now my original prediction of 1-6 or 2-5 is looking to be on target, with the 1-6 being a distinct possibility.
It’s quite possible that we will never win another game again. 🙂
9 straight years of losing does wear on us fans.
so does 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position
Mike had a big chance in the 1st inning and did not come through… A hit there would have changed the entire complexion of the game…
but to be fair to him Soler also failed in that RISP situation..
He ain’t no Nicholas Cage
We are wasting Kohano!
15-6 Ks. That’s tough, 5 innings worth vs. 2. Wasn’t there a effort in the org. to make contact Moore?
Pitching, but no offense, that’s rare….
Impressive debut… for Wade
I blame the Apple TV games. They never win those games and the broadcast sucks.
Yes, let’s go with that.
The K’s are killing us!!! 15 more tonight.
You mean Moore?
