My generation grew up with Braves games on TBS night after night. I generally root for the Braves as a result of this.
Angels at Braves Game 2 Gamethread
Sucks so bad that like 95% of Trout comments are now negative. I completely get it and nobody is wrong in their assessments just sucks so bad we are already at that point with him
The comments are both warranted (to a degree) and over the top.
He’s earned our respect. Also, he’s the highest paid player on the team and deserves criticism. I do think the constant negativity and bashing is a bit much.
I think that’s the double edge sword of it all. I think every single poster here respects Trout and what’s he’s done. Angel legend forever regardless what happens from here. I can’t bring myself to bashing him but totally get what others are saying. Totally bummer situation
Same with the homers.
As long as it’s not a clutch situation, you can bet Trout will hit a homer.
Remember the playoffs in 2014, Angels vs Royals?
Angels got swept. Trout got 1 hit – a homer, in game 3, when there was no pressure.
Angels team rarely tell viewers what Trout does with RISP. You have to search the Internet to find out, or else watch the opposing team’s broadcast (or watch AppleTV when they have the Angels on) in order to find out.
For example, in 2024, Trout was batting roughly 0.150 with RISP. You know how I found out? I looked it up on the Internet. Angels organization repeatedly evades giving out information that is negative.
In 2025, coming into today, Trout is .325/.474/.450 with RISP. Last year he only had 25 PA’s with RISP because he missed almost the entire season. I find this anti Trout slander preposterous.
I am not slandering Trout.
I have seen a number of games over Trout’s career (perhaps not as many as you, or others).
I’ve seen enough to see Trout driving in runs when the pressure is not on. But, when it counts (against the Astros, Red Sox, Yankees, etc), he does not come through.
Against Verlander, he’s 5-45, with 2 HR, 2 RBI.
Back around 2017, with Angels-Astros vying for 1st place sometime around June, Angels had man on 3rd, less than 2 outs. On the 1st pitch (which Trout routinely takes), Verlander threw a fastball inside, and Trout swung, hitting a comebacker.
I enjoy watching Trout, and watching Angels games. But, I don’t blindly support a team.
2 things this team apparently hates. Being over .500 and having a respectable run differential. Any time they start to improve on either they shit their pants faster than my 1 yr old
Angels will keep him around.
Remember, Angels are not like Dodgers/Yankees or any other team that’s likely to make the playoffs.
As long as you don’t play horribly, you stay in the majors when you play for the Angels. And that’s why we haven’t made the playoffs in over a decade.
Look at how long they kept Jose Suarez before giving up on him in 2024.
Suarez then played 3 games for the Braves this year, and they promptly sent him to the minors, despite the fact that he had a 2.45 ERA (much lower than at any time when he was with the Angels).
You can’t keep using players with major liabilities (Rengifo and his defense, Newman and his offense) and expect to win.
I see they’ve found the above .500 brick wall to smash their face into once again
That’s right, Angels announcers, talk about how well the relievers have been doing in the past 10 games (or 20 games).
But, overall, this is a bad relieving corps.
Along with below-average to average starting pitching and hitting, and below average fielding.
So, will Angels executives repeat their mistake of 2023, by trading prospects for rental players to try to go for the playoffs? Only to see that 2023 team go 73-89.
This team is like that team.
Nah, Angels will keep Zerfejahn.
After all, if they can keep Jose Suarez and his 6.02 ERA in 2024 (or 8.29 ERA in 2023) in the majors, they’ll keep Zerfejahn. He’s only got a 6.19 ERA. Still got a few more bad outings to go to get that ERA past 8.29.
This is what the Angels do – if you play average to below average, you’re on the team.
It’s only when you are beyond horrific (like Suarez giving up a run every time he pitched) that the Angels start to consider moving you.
