The Angels vs Avengers post game

The Halos were able to make me feel a little bit better about what the Dodgers did to the A’s last night. The A’s got killed last night, and I’m just happy that the Angels were able to kill their hot streak and get themselves another win.

Jack Kochanowicz had a hell of a start tonight. He was able to go out there and give the Angels a great chance to win the game. His final stat line for the night: 6.2 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 5 Ks. I had never seen Jack pitch before, and I was very impressed with his ability to battle around the Dodgers’ lineup. I mean, it’s not fair. Dave Roberts has the Avengers playing for him, I think I could coach for the Dodgers, and I would have a similar record to him. So I give a lot of props to the Halos’ pitching staff tonight to be able to buckle down and deal against such an elite team.

The Halos got off to a quick start and got to Dustin May early, scoring 2 in the first by way of a Yoan Moncada 2-run shot.

The Angels were held to just those 2 runs until they had bases loaded with 1 out in the 4th. Zach Neto came up clutch with a 2-strike hit into left field, scoring 2 and extending the Halos’ lead.

The only run Zach would allow tonight would come on a Max Muncy hit on the bottom half of the 4th, shedding the lead to 3.

Shohei Ohtani kept doing Ohtani things tonight. He cut the lead down to 2 in the 8th on a no-doubt shot to center.

Matthew Lugo started off the 9th with a single, and Neto stayed hot to make it second and third. The Angels needed an insurance run, Nolan Schanuel came up and ripped a single up the middle for 2 RBI’s , making it 6-2.

Kenley came in for the 9th and gave up a lead-off hit. After the lead-off runner, Jansen was able to get 3 consecutive outs and lead the Angels to a win.

Final score, Angels 6 – Dodgers 2. What a win!

5/16 top prospect performance goes to 2024 4th-round pick, Austin Gordon.

6 innings
1 ER
5 hits
5 strikeouts
0 walks

Gordon had a rough outing on 5/9:
2.2 innings
10 earned runs

However, if we exclude that start, here are his numbers over his other 3 starts since 4/27:

17 innings
1.06 ERA
1.00 WHIP
15 strikeouts

Tyler Anderson = 1.7 WAR
Jose Soriano = 1.0 WAR
Yusei Kikuchi = 0.9 WAR
Jack Kochanowicz = 0.6 WAR
Kyle Hendricks = 0.5 WAR

Starting pitching has been a positive.

Best among starting pitching, bullpen, and offense. Who thought Anderson would be our best pitcher.

Maybe Enright deserves some credit ?

I think Enright is a good coach. He did wonders last year with the scrap heap bullpen pieces he had to work with. The guys we traded away last year collapsed badly with their new teams.

Frustrating that he can’t seem to fix Detmers though.

With Detmers I think more than anything he has been misused. And for that we can blame Washington. I mean, there is no way in the world he should have been used in that tough spot on Thursday, May 1st against the Tigers. Not only did it cost us the game and a sure split of that series, but it further damaged Detmers’ confidence, I think.

For Detmers it’s in between the ears. Detmers is another Eppler folly. He’s in the Adell, Ward category of suck. But if it makes you feel better, his Louisville teammate Bobby Miller has been equally atrocious for the Dodgers, so it could just be them.

Not sure why you are saying Ward sucks…This is a guy who accumulated 7.9 oWAR between 2022-2024.

We just need offense and middle relief and we’re set. Maybe in 10 more seasons Perry will get it together.

Well that was joyous. We take what we can get and beating the LAD if only for one game is pretty great.

One more win in this series would be magnificent. If they can do it, knocking Kershaw out tonight after 3 innings would be nice.

I’d take that. Hopefully TA is locked in against his former team. I have a hard time imagining the Dodgers offense being held down two nights in a row, however…

The real joy comes from knowing that all the pissed off, dejected, Doyers fans had to spend at least another 45 minutes trying to get out of Chavez gully.

Angels starting pitching solid, safe to assume they will keep us in the game for 5+ 👍
The offense getting a little better, kinda sorta, some nights, maybe 😐
Defense usually has 1 or 2 💩 ’s in their pants every game. Still crap on grass
Running the bases usually has 1 or 2 💩 ’s in their pants every game. Even if only a few reach the basepaths some nights
Bullpen still 💩 🤡 😱 🤮 ☠️

The Baltimore Orioles have fired manager Brandon Hyde after their 15-28 start to the 2025 season and last-place standing in the American League East, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Perfect. It’s mostly my responsibility but I’m firing someone else. The manager won a pennant last year but now he’s no good. They lost their ace starting pitcher and did not replace him and the team is having a down year.

This makes sense to me. That roster has a pretty significant amount of talent for them to be performing so badly.

JackFrost

True. But we also have way too much talent to be a last place team in our division (even if you consider the unlucky blow of injury to Joyce) and 6 big games out of first. With coaches dropping like flies Wash should be nervous..

You are wrong…. extremely wrong… wrong the way only a man who desperately wants to be right and have someone do his thoughts can be wrong.

This current club is too talented to be in last place?

I am laughing at your comment.

Unlike our roster, you look at them and expect some rotation issues, but man, they are ALL underperforming on that team.

Angels should move to Victorville or Pacoima.

Problem with this plan is that the Angels would need to go on a win streak, and they seem incapable of doing that with the inconsistent starting pitching, horrid bullpen and spotty offense.

Winning one then losing two, then winning one then losing three ain’t gonna get that done…

That was great fun. My hatred makes me feel alive inside.

Though I’m afraid they will punish us later. Especially when Ohtani pitches. Oh.

All jokes aside. I think the Padres can take these guys.

That was one deep down emotionally satisfying game. Damm good pitching, good defense, timely hits, all against an extremely good team. I guess the day after 19 runs is kind of a letdown.

We won with having 15 strikeouts, but 5 DP’s on D works too.
