Trout injured, and the Angels get Swept by the Mariners

The Angels and the Mariners are almost the exact same team. Seriously. Long suffering teams who constantly fail, waste the biggest names in the sport, and keep looking back at the turn of the millennium when things were great. Just one gets a rainy PNW while the other has sunshine.

Anyway, Tyler Anderson pitched today. He went 6 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. It is yet another not good start against a team that shouldn’t be any good yet here we are again… At least he got that no decision. Somehow.

The real tragedy though is Mike Trout getting injured again. As if April really had to twist the knife. Seriously, I hate this month. So much wrong, and suffering, not much joy. And while Mike Trout wasn’t quite himself this year, learning a new position and not hitting often, he still has 9 home runs. So…

It was not the matter of if, but when

Highlighted Recap

Trout got a hit in the 1st, maybe his last hit of the season the way injuries has worked with him this decade

I miss the old Trout, not Old Man Trout

Logan drove in the first run soon after, although Trout was stranded at 3B.

1-0 Angels

Too bad Tyler Anderson gave it right back in the bottom of the inning

Tied 1-1

And he gave up another run in the 2nd

2-1 Mariners

Soler tied it up though in the 3rd, his 5th Home run of the year

Tied 2-2

Too bad the Angels defense goofed and allowed the 3rd run in the 3rd.

3-2 Mariners

But Neto got in that 3rd run in the 4th by beating out the double play. See, hustle.

3-3 tie

And in the bottom of the 4th, Nolan made a good catch

Maybe this defense isn’t bad?

Pain

Detmers came in for the 7th and things went off the rails. An infield hit, a defensive mistake on a bunt, a passed ball, and a single past the pulled in infield got 2 runs for the Mariners.

5-3 Mariners

Julio double just rubbed salt on the wound

6-3 Mariners

And another one because why not?

7-3 Mariners

Well, Detmers is done for now. He didn’t even get an out. He loaded was pulled for Ryan Johnson. Yes, Detmers with 0 innings pitched, 4 earned runs on 5 hits, and left responsible for 1 more. He got that 1 more ER just to kick him when he was down when a missed strike 3 call led to a fluke single and 2 more runs coming in.

Being an Angels fan is pain

The Angels lose their 9th straight road game.

Upcoming

Back home with 4 vs Detroit. May should be better for the Halos. I mean it gotta be one of these years, right? Seriously, the Angels do not leave California again until May 30th. Home games, at San Diego, at Dodgers, at Sacramento. That’s May. An easy travel schedule after that disaster of an April.

Never a question of if, just a question of when. Trouty is just plain and simple injury prone. Makes a person really wonder about whether or not HOF material. WAR he has got, but lacks in the totals in every metric total of runs/hits/RBI/etc. Great fielder but no GG. Does have 3 MVP awards and a lot of Silver Slugger awards and 2 All Star game MVP. My opinion is he is deserving but you never know what the press thinks, what do you think?

No doubt hall of famer.

Yeah. He’s got the stats to make the Hall WAR wise. He’ll get in. He may need to retire early so he looks like Sandy Kofax. Question is, sadly, why is he made of paper now? Cause if it weren’t “my guy” I have to be honest and say I’d be suspecting steroids like I did with Pujols and many other players who were crazy good, got even bigger and better, and then had muscles made of carnitas for the last ten years of their huge contract.

Got the money. Get off the juice. Make some babies. Don’t want to die of organ failure now. Cheap muscles break easy. Sorry fans.

If our veterans are traded for yuts, we will lose 100+ games, which is just fine if it means we are building for the future. Free Agents that are really good won’t sign here, but there are other ways to rebuild and maybe before I get two steps out of the end zone, we may win.

Did they ever? When was the last “big ticket” FA that worked out? Tori Hunter? Anyone else?

I guess Reggie Jackson but that’s beyond my memory.

D@mmit Trout!

He was on pace in about 30 games away from raising his AB up to the .260-.270 range.

at about .170 for 1/6th of the season. Fun with numbers. To get back to .300 Trout would have to hit .325 for the remaining games. That’s unlikely but possible. To get to .300 in his next 29 games he’d have to hit .430. To finish at .179, where he is now, he’d have to be done for the year ’cause he’s not going to play every day in July, August, September with that average.

On pace to win 68 or 69 games. So while the last couple of weeks have sucked horribly, we aren’t all that far off from most staff predictions of win totals in the low to mid 70s.

I’m not saying it is good, it is likely just evening things out for the 4 straight series wins to kick off the year.

We weren’t good enough to win 4 straight. We’re better than we’ve been the last two weeks, but not by a ton.

Three of those four series wins were against teams with sub-.500 records, including a very bad Cardinals team, and a historically bad White Sox team. That early winning record seems a little deceiving to begin with.

Is the team better than we’ve seen the past two weeks? The components of the team that were projected to be bad are pretty bad, and a bullpen without Joyce and Stephenson is far less of a strength than it looked to be as the season started.

Given the state of the farm, and with injuries to Trout and Joyce, I could see this team being nearly as bad as last year’s – 65 wins would not be terribly surprising.

Jeff – the early wins were the product of over performance by certain players- particularly Paris. They were hitting homeruns left and right. That’s unsustainable and I think we all knew that. I think this is a team that is currently built to win approximately 5 of every 12. Not 3 of 12 or 8 of 12.

So now they’re saying Trout came up with a sore knee running out the grounder. Washington says it already feels better. He’s going to play tomorrow. I predict he plays tomorrow, comes up in pain and misses the rest of the season.

I despise quotes like this because it’s plainly false.

Even IF Trouts “sore knee”
isn’t serious, there is zero chance he plays tomorrow so what is the point in making such a blatantly false statement?

Cannot believe a single thing Washington says publicly. He just repeats the PR he is told to say and avoids saying anything that is negative or could hurt ticket sales. The original example of this is when he hinted during a pre-season conference while Ohtani negotiations were ongoing that he had positive information that he couldn’t share. Total BS as it always is with Wash and this Org.

This is why I always kinda’ liked Joe Maddon. If nothing else, he would answer questions in a generally unique manner. He wasn’t big on the “manager/corporate speak” which I find vomit inducing in all circumstances.

I have millennial family members that speak in carefully couched “corporate speak”. I want to punch them when they do this but, I digress.

Maddon would say some bizarre things that were mildly thought provoking.

I’m done with 15 WAR Wash. I suppose he’ll complete the season but, he’s an old soldier. Time to get off the front lines.

Each season in recent memory, there’s that one game where we get blown out in ridiculous fashion—and you just know it’s the unofficial start of the annual downward spiral.

Today was that game. Tied until the bottom of the 7th, when Seattle put up a 6-spot featuring just one hit out of the infield; a Trout injury; two pitchers simultaneously heading out to pitch the 8th.

Laugh now, cry later. Actually—laugh now, laugh later. It’s gonna be a long five months 😂

It’s like watching Panda videos… and then being pissed because they are not very agile… when you are the one clicking on Panda videos. This team is going to lose. A LOT. I want to see what the young guys pull off.

Lovely analogy lol. I love watching both Angels games and panda videos!

I too am mostly interested in the young guys. I want more of them in the bullpen. Adding Fermin was a good start, next should be Yovan, Natera Jr., Caceres.

Trade Anderson and DFA Hendricks. Bring up Silseth and Dana

Good example is the Redskins. Horrific franshise, owner so hated, city officials were blocking a new stadium back in DC…. Hated, evil owner finally sells the team…. Immediately draft franchise QB, make a super bowl run in his rookie season, f’ing darling of the league, legacy franchises back 1000%. All because the evilness finally sold the team.

With that said, the odds of that happening with Angels are beyond remote, That’s likely a complete fantasyland scenario. Mostly because AM is double evil. But, that rarely ever happens and a new owner probably can’t do much to salvage this franchise….. Other than a complete slow, slog of a rebuild. It would take years, and very likely be nothing but a new name in MLB ownership, with little notable improvement….. Winning ownership is incredibly hard, very few accomplishments it for the long haul.

Now, with that said….. SELL THE F’ing ART!!! So we can be tricked into having some false hope for another 5 + years.

*Waiting for a strong offer from a buyer in Austin TX, Memphis or Nashville TN or Charlotte NC.
HE HATES THE FANS IN OC, so he ain’t gonna sell to a buyer that just wants to move across town {Inglewood, Pasadena, Fontana}. GPD lives…..No matter what GGOMP or CB26 say
