LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

What do you think? Rhett Bollinger says that Ryan Johnson could reach the big leagues real soon as a reliever. Yoan Moncada says he is confident he will be ready on Opening Day. This article is about Kyle Hendricks mentoring the Yutes.

Mookie Betts will in fact miss the Tokyo series due to his illness. Yu Darvish is dealing with “general fatigue” and the season hasn’t even started yet. Getting old sucks. Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford will begin the season on the IL due to a sore elbow. Twins third baseman Royce Lewis will begin the season on the injured list due to a hamstring issue. Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee is having an MRI due to back discomfort.

The Braves just released Curt Casali. It looks like they are going to roll with Drake Baldwin and Chadwick Tromp, at least until Sean Murphy comes back.

Apparently Alex Bregman bought all the Red Sox prospects fancy suites. Like a true asshole.

Season is saved!

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/angels-sign-travis-blankenhorn-to-minor-league-deal.html

Really, not a bad minors deal. The guy has raked in AAA and will get another chance to do so. Between him, Noda, and Kavadas there should be balls launching out of Salt Lake.

Add another smile to the pile. Hard to complain about another warm body that can theoretically hit and cover three positions if someone gets hurt or catches a case of the sucks or gets traded or ghosts kill their soul…..

We’re stashing AAAA players for the end of the year when most of the regulars are hurt or traded. At least we have a plan.

So we signed Travis Moniak? Jo Blankenhorn?

Is Wash planning a cage match with Mickey, Travis and Jo for a roster spot?

And completely off topic… Why do the MLB schedulers hate the Halos?

Angels’ schedule for March/April

  • @CWS
  • @STL
  • vs CLE
  • @TBR
  • @HOU
  • @TEX
  • vs SFG
  • vs PIT
  • @MIN
  • @SEA

The Halos have opened on the road, what? 9 out of the past 10 years?

At least only Cleveland, Houston and Texas are almost sure to clobber us to start the year…..

(Insert dipshit hurtboy comment about the White Sox last year here)

We are likely gonna lose a pile of games no matter where we play all season so why sweat the details? I’m probably most concerned about “the kids” who actually play early having to see Pitt, Cle and Seattle’s pitching early, but such is life, and it will likely not be the kids pile that early. More Moncada/Anderson type guys.

Honestly, I’m not looking at this from a development POV, but as a fan. “Why does MY team always open on the road? Why are 70% of the first 10 series on the road?”

It seems like it’s been this way for several years, and it’s unfair to ALL Halo fans.

On the flip side, we always finish the year at home…..so we can watch Jack Lopez and his buddies finish the season strong.

That end of the season home game heavy schedule would be cool if we ever had a playoff push…… maybe in 2035?

Never gonna happen. Not while Arte’s around. It is scientifically impossible to make a play off push with a crappy owner and crappy owners never change. Just ask the Rays, Guardians, A’s and Diamondbacks.

Uh, you didn’t account for a crappy owner who is crappy and EVIL.
Big difference…if Shohei’s mom taught us anything, it was that. And shame on us for not remembering.

Shohei’s mom knew that the glow coming from beneath Arte’s closed office door at night was from the fires of evil. And we knew that she knew. And we commented on it at CtPG.

Jeebz the Shohei suction back in the day was pathetic.

From an MLB perspective it makes little sense. The first month can feature some cold weather in Chicago and other places north.

Southern CA, the South in general, and Florida should get most of the early games.

I think the evolution of MLB scheduling to now include at least one series against each team in the other league, has made the possibility of consistent logical multicity road trips ( like the old east coast swing) virtually impossible. And being a west coast team we seemed to be getting the brunt of the travel miles

It’s always been weird to me cause you’d think you want the White Sox OUT OF Chicago the first week of April?

Because the MLB schedule makers understand that it’s way too cold and rainy to play April games in Anaheim. Surprised that you didn’t know that.

If it weren’t for these damn April road games I’d be like “We could totally take a wild card this year!”

I’m trying to figure out how cheap Arte and stupid Perry influenced this… and Rendon. He probably was in on this scheme too.

Is there any harm in letting him face some major league hitting as a low leverage reliever and stretching him out in the future?

Sometimes no. But given this is his first year of pro ball, probably.

If Kyren Paris is real and that swing actually works for an extended stretch, that is huge for the rebuild.

I’m rooting for the kid. I think he starts in the minors but it isn’t hard to see him playing his way onto this team in short order.

The Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles Practice Squad.

We’re already doing this, kinda sorta?

The Marlins organization is creating a practice squad believed to be the first-of-its-kind in baseball. They are looking for former college and professional players.

Taking a stab at our OD 26-man roster..

C: O’Hoppe, D’Arnaud
IF: Schanuel, Rengifo, Newman, Moncada, Anderson, Noda
OF: Trout, Ward, Adell, Moniak, Soler

SP: Kikuchi, Soriano, Anderson, Hendricks, Detmers

RP: Jansen, Joyce, Zeferjahn, Burke, McDaniels, Perdomo, Quijada, Suarez

— Detmers gets the 5th spot over Silent C
— Moncada heals quick enough to make it
— Silent C, Silseth, Paris, Moore, R. Johnson go down to the minors
— Quijada and Suarez survive as the last 2 bullpen options

Neto returning in April; Stephenson will make his Angels’ debut May/June?

9 days left!

Replace JD Davis with Noda and you nailed the position players . Davis is getting way too many big boy innings not to make the team especially with Moncadas ongoing tenuous health status . Not to mention he’s a pretty good career pinch hitter . noda’s got minor league options left so he can test up salt lake until they need him in Anaheim .

Even as stoopid as Perry seems I really doubt he carries 5 lefties in the pen so this may finally be the end for Suarez ( although he very easily could pass through waivers ) I think you’re right about Koch that they’d rather he start in the minors than come out of the bullpen up here so since the Angels aren’t sold on Hans Crouse I could see them picking up a right handed set up guy between now and next Thursday

Not grokking this Wicz-to-the-minors sheeeit. Dude has been our best starter from All-Star break through the spring. You don’t reward that by shipping him to AAA.

Silseth has been worse than awful. It’s very sad because Silent C has proven himself as a major league pitcher last year and he out performed Detmers. At the same time, both of them should be starting in the major leagues this year for better or worse. We’re not winning anyway, let’s fix Detmers and fine tune Silent C, and have them both ready to go with Soriano and Kikuchi next year. I don’t see either of them benefitting from pitching in the minors but I suppose You could stash Slient C there until later in the season.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Does Silseth have options left? He seems like the perfect “Go someplace and throw 50 innings” guy right now. I think the injury lay off has dented him a little. He Ks guys still, but his velo is all over the place, looked like he had a dead arm last outing (which makes sense) and he always looks like he’s on the edge of collapse even in good innings.

If they can keep KoDet up at the MLB level and use them they should park Silseth and let him get that fastball/spliter routine down and build up some arm strength.

Jeff Joiner

I’m confident Silseth has options remaining. Suarez and Quijada are the guys out of options and McDaniels has to either make the squad or be offered back to the Dodgers.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Yeah. I was pretty sure we could option Silseth if we have to.

I’ve never been that upset with Suarez getting a look in Spring. That’s what you do in Spring. Bring in cheap lefty pen options and see if they look good. He hasn’t. That’s OK, he’s easy to cut or demote. Same with Quijada. Angel Perdomo is in this same camp.

I WILL finally start bitching like a true CtPG guy if they send McDanials back to LA and keep Suarez. That’s an ACTUALL move and it would suck.

I think Silent C gets the nod over Detmers. Normally I’d side with the first round pick but Detmers wasn’t Perry’s first round pick so that goes out the window.

Not happy to see Suarez or Quijada on the roster but if that gives Johnson some AA time to try out being a starter, that’s the price we pay.

JD Davis makes the squad over Noda.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Exactly. There will be some “warm body” spots for a while in order to let prospects prospect. It’s actually the best option.

Angels sign an Angel and send Kingery to the minors. Could this possibly mean the end of either Suarez or Quijada in an Angels uniform?

Senator_John_Blutarsky

So many choices…..waive Kingery and .138 spring batting average (to keep his arbitration salary, he’ll likely accept an assignment to the minors), send McDaniels back to the Dodgers? waive Q and his 9 earned runs over 3 2/3 innings? waive En Fuego and his 3 HRs allowed over 7 innings?

Thank goodness PTP gathers really crappy left handed RPs like a squirrel collecting nuts in October.
