LA Angels Monday News Crash: .500 Record

The Angels made it through the weekend with a .500 record.

Kevin Pillar got a minor league deal with an invite from the Texas Rangers. The Mariners signed Trevor Gott to a minor league deal with an invitation to big league camp.

Mets shortstop Nick Madrigal dislocated his shoulder in the first inning of a spring training game. He’ll be getting an MRI. Rangers pitching prospect Alejandro Rosario will likely miss all of 2025 due to an elbow injury. He will have surgery. Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller got hit in the head by a 106 MPH comebacker. He will enter concussion protocol.

Madonna did have a nice swing, from both sides of the plate. But Rosie O’Donnell couldn’t hit water if she fell out of a boat.

Trouty didn’t make the cut for ESPN’s top 10 corner OFers.

Not that it’s a blamable offense, but still sheeeesh. Unless his body truly doesn’t allow it, I think Trout comes back a big way this year. He’s a 🐐 of this sport for a reason, and the world will be reminded.

Oh, trumpets will blare if Trout plays 140 games. Almost every talking head I have listened to really wants him to come back strong. Of course, then the complaints that he is wasting away on the wrong coast will start again.

Yep, pretty easy. Downloaded the app and its $19.99 monthly for all Angels access. Watched both games this weekend and was able to cast to my TV.

Yeah this is just for Angels and I think you get all the Kings games too if I’m not mistaken. There was some other team on there either NHL or NBA but to be honest I didn’t really pay attention to which team it was.

I downloaded the app from the Roku streaming app menu and logged in there. The video quality was better than what we had with DirectTV last year.

Detmers is in the fight of his life for that 5th spot in the rotation but he’s trying NOT to think about it and have FUN!?! What an asshole. He’s a cancer. We need to dump him cause he ruins everything by not being sad in front of me.

Detmers pen was really good yesterday as it showed me he’s developing a plan to use a cut 2 seam fast ball to run in on RH hitters and tail late over the corner of the plate. The 4-seam still has life and velo at 95 and his chang/slider is downright nasty.

If he can keep hitters off balance with the 2-seam I think his stuff plays so well as the#5 starter.

BTW, no one remembers (Or cares), but during the early offseason I said I wanted us to p/u a particular ChiSox player, but 4got which one it was-It was Moncada.

We’ll see how he pans out, but sometimes it is very hard to shine on a terrible club (We’ve all been there), just ask Mike Trout. So, we’ll see of his performance in Chicago was environmental or just mental….

In Moncada’s last 2 healthy seasons he produced 4 and 5.2 WAR. The problem is those #s came in 2021 and 2019.

When it’s a binary choice between the 2, I prefer Reid as well. Performance has to matter, and Reid needs to earn the spot.

For the Angels to advance in the standings, they need Detmers to pull it all together. He can look like a solid No.3 rotation arm at times. I cannot say that about the other guys. For me, it’s Soriano, Kikuchi, Detmers, Anderson as the top options.

Detmers upside is so tantalizing but his consistency is non existant.

I think he wants to be great and does all he can, but this year he has to be looking around at Silent C, Dana, and Aldegheri and realize he’s on the cusp of being passed on the depth chart by any and all of them if he doesn’t perform.

I tend to agree with Taylor Blake Ward that Detmers is the most crucial prospect in the Angels system. If he lives up to his billing, the Angels pitching scenario is pretty bright. Good Detmers, Soriano, Silent C, Dana is a really good starting point and adding one top of the rotation guy suddenly makes this team look legit.

My takeaway after 2 games is that Nelson Rada is a ballplayer! Very exciting to watch. Also feel good about young Mr. Moore.

Yeah. I’m really happy about Moore. It’s obvious that he has defensive issues and that he also has strike zone issues, but it’s also obvious that he has the talent and ability to make stuff happen even with those issues. He also makes adjustments. So If he goes to AA/AAA for a little while I think he’ll really have a productive time down there and come up to the MLB with a good mindset. He doesn’t look overwhelmed at all, just undercooked a little bit.
