Baseball All Saturday Gamethread

It is a bad day to be a remote control. Stock up on batteries and plan on flipping between 4 baseball and a billion college football games today.

If that guy keeps it up this will be worse than 1986, 1995, and 1982…all of then combined.

Kind of hard to top 1986 though.

Early but calling it. Dodgers and Ohtani World Series champions 2024. What team did he used to play for, who cares, erased, always a Dodger. Hope I’m wrong but who the hell is gonna beat the best team money can buy?? Padres are best bet and they still can’t find a way.. An already dominant team adds AL MVP, Teoscar, Edman, Flaherty, when does it end. And all magically play better when they put on the blue uniform, sadly opposite from us.

I just don’t think the Dodgers have the pitching to go the distance this year.

But it’s baseball, i’ve heard anything can happen.

You’re right, but don’t think we’ve seen a ridiculous super team like this. Their injured starting pitchers are shallow but the $$$ line up and relief can make up for it. Sorry to hate on Ohtani so much. Betts is actually a bigger dick. Won a WS Boston, team and fan MVP, yet tells owner he wants to test FA market. No choice to to trade him for literally nothing, and as soon as he gets on team blue, signs an extension giving up his FA chance. Sucks for Sox’s fans who just beat LA in WS.

So, he wanted to leave Boston. Why does that make him a dick ?

BTW, he was not the first black sports star who wanted to leave that town.

well if we’re gonna base things after just one game in the Division Series, I’m going with CLE. They looked best but someone needs 10 more wins and that’s a lot.

Phillies had the best record vs the Dodgers during the season. Either team can beat the Dodgers because the Mets and Phillies also have high payrolls.

And who gave the Dodgers the difference maker ?

Yep. That’s right, our good friend Arte Moreno.

I watched all 4 games today. 103 degrees in Sonoma County today. I just sat on the couch with my dog and watched baseball and ate ice cream, drank iced tea, attending the Church of Baseball all the live-long day. My gawd: whatta life. Thanks be to the goddess who gave us the DVR and fastforwarding through commercials.

I realized around August that it now feels alien to even think of the Angels in the playoffs. Like: I remember 1979, 1982, 1986 (oy!), esp 2002 (of course), those teams that lost in the playoffs (remember that Manny Ramirez HR against us that went, like, 480 feet, given up by Washburn?), how sweet it was to sweep the damned Chowds 3-0 in 2009, the 2014 sweep to the Royals: the only time Mike Trout ever played in the postseason. That was eons ago. And frankly, I see now end in sight with this owner and his cheapie organization. Are we an embarrassment? Aye. Lemme count the ways. Or any of us could.

But today was all about baseball. I for one will not hold my breath over the Angels making the postseason. They are at the apex of dismality.

What a bad pitch to swing on, Manny

I was thinking how sweet it would be to see Blake Treinen blow the game by giving up a 3-run jack. Not to be. Manny will chase a pitch out of the zone. Always has.

Arte squanders him for 6 years, and the Dodgers show him how it’s done the very first year of his deal, along with that monster homer that we could never get him on the stage for.

Let him walk but we plan to contend just a year later.

It’s so embarrassing caring about the Angels.

Dodgers aren’t gonna go far giving up runs like this though.

Quote from Moreno from MLB Trade Rumors:

“It’s just an automatic loss,” Moreno said of the club’s $215MM payroll….,as relayed by Fletcher. “If I start piling up (financial) losses, then the next year I’m going to cut.”

What does “cut” mean?

Sell the team or cut expenses?

Man….is Arte even watching the Dodgers Padres? Talk about depressing. All these guys can talk about is Ohtani. From merch sales to team mentions/relevance it must hurt bad.

Today – today! – Arte announced he wants to “compete” in 2025. Who the efffff knows what that means. Read the room, jackass.

You’re meaningless until you sell the team, ya clueless loser.

I fully agree. His statements focused on selling season tickets are so obvious. I don’t believe a word coming from the Org.

The hellacious throw by Manny was a freak thing, and it hurt ’em: 7th run for Dodgers.

Went from Bob Costas and Ron Darling calling KC@Yankmees – as good as it gets – to Joe Davis (tongue up the Doyers org’s ass) and Smoltz, who’s sheer torture to listen to. Before Arraez had finished his leadoff AB top of the 1st, Smoltz had already spewed more of his worthless, meaningless gibbergish than Darling has his entire career as a color commentator.

Come on Padres, you can do it. I always hope the Doyers choke but this year even more than any other ever, unless they met the Angels in WS. Obviously cause Easy Way, how shitty that would be for him to win WS first year with them after ditching us. Huge dirt in the face by blue nation to Angel fans. Ghosts of Tony Gwynn, help SD win.

Would mean so much more to me, if the dodgers lose.

I’d rather be selfish on this one.
