Hey all you wild and crazy guys! Check out the American foxes hanging around at Coors Field.
The Guardians signed Josh Bell to a two year deal worth $33 Million with a player option after the first year. Sean Manaea also got a two year deal. In his case it is with the Giants. Xander Bogaerts signed an 11 year deal with the Padres for $280 Million. The Oakland Athletics traded Sean Murphy to the Atlanta Braves. A couple of other catchers were involved with Manny Pina going to Oakland in the three team deal and William Contreras going to the Brewers. The Athletics followed that up by designating Vimael Machin for assignment. Chris Bassitt appears to have a deal with the Blue Jays for three years and $63 Million.
Jose Siri got himself forcibly ejected down in the Dominican Winter League. It looks like he disagreed about balls and strikes and went for the old kick dirt on the plate trick.

Angel’s GM/POBO?
Perfect the cheating team of Bonds signs Correa. May they choke on that insane contract!
We ain’t winning shit in 2023
No doubt. We can’t even win December.
Contra Costa headlines: Correa to the Giants, Farhan to get fired, 13-years @ $350M. $27M AAV.
Farhan is smart because he and his owners care about making the best champiham sandwich. This 13 year deal would have been so easy for us to make since the team is being sold. It would have also helped us win this must win season and sign the must sign 400M contract with Ohtani. You’ve got to sign huge contracts if you want to win the right to sign the hugest contracts.
But alas. Arte n P only like fish sticks.
13 year deal for a SS that has some skills, but this is another ridiculous deal. Correa left the Astros and they won the World Series. He’s not exactly the straw that stirred the drink. His main value is athleticism at SS and a decent enough bat for that position. In 5-6 years, he likely won’t be that anymore. The last 7-8 years of the deal could be very rough.
If you cannot get a guy like this on a seven year deal (which itself is ultra long), don’t sign him. At least the Giants did it, not the Angels.
I would have done a Swanson deal for 6-7 years before Correa. Just my opinion and I am not a huge Swanson fan.
The shame of it is with all of these insane lengthy deals, any signing of Ohtani will almost have to be ten years or more and $400-500 million. That’s basically in line with what other teams are paying lesser guys. I cannot imagine where this is headed.
10 yrs/550m+
Doubtful
We will see. Want to bet an Angel dog and beer? I’ll take 8 years+ and 500m+
I think Correa was the best FA on the market and, at his age, the best bet for a huge deal. If he ages he can move positions and still be a very high value player. But only a moron thinks we were gonna sign him and then sign Ohtani. Hell, I don’t even want to sign Ohtani.
I know it’s galling, but it’s time to start asking ourselves WWTAD…. what would the Astros do? And then do it. Over and over again.
The problem with us doing WWTAD is we don’t have their incredible farm system and they’re MLB’s closest thing to Alabama FB.
💪 💪 💪
Dang. So much for not taking on too much long term risk. NL West will be brutal both next season and about 6-7 seasons later. I don’t think Correa will last physically through 2/3 of that deal, at best.
In other news. Space fans.

They also got molecular fusion (sort of) to work at Livermore Labs this week too. Soon we will expand my empire to the stars!
My brother works at Edwards and just brought me some B-21 swag
Sweet! Yanks just signed Norwood instead of Rodon. He’s all ours!
Failure to move Yankee fan’s needle. Cashman’s an idiot. The Yankees don’t care about winning, just big splashing butts onto seats.
When did Arte buy the MFY?
A few years after Costanza left.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the Buffalo kicker?
Wide right!
Tough, tough miss. Looking back on the Bills and their 4-straight super bowl appearances, great team.
The Angels pitching right now is better than the M’s and Rangers and A’s. If we add another very good starter by hook or crook, we will vastly improve.
Our infield defense right now is close to the Astros and Seattle and on par with Texas.
The best catcher in the division is now in the NL thankfully. Sandoval cost the team dearly in the trade for him. That said, we are better off with Sandy in our rotation. But our catching is going to improve with experience moving forward. Stassi hopefully improves with the bat in ’23.
Depending on the combination of outfielders Houston uses, our outfield is really as good as Houston and Seattle.
Right now, I think our starting pitching is as good as Houston. They had a big hit this Winter.
Our Bullpen is only better than Oakland and Houston shines.
Our infield is tied with Seattle for being in second place, with Texas a smidgen behind us.
So, you still think we do not need Swanson and his hitting and fielding? What’s under your Christmas Tree?
Dos Carlos
Do it Santa!
😆 😂 😂 😆
I like this quote from MLBTR:
“With Judge and Cole both locked into a combined $76MM in annual commitments through the 2028 season (2029 in Judge’s case), adding Rodon to the mix would require budgeting more than $100MM annually for a trio of players for at least the next six years.”
Welcome to our world.
Please add in Mike Stanton-ian at $32M…suckers
The Skanks know what they’re doing They kept kept Jacoby Ellsbury from resigning with the Chowds. That was a power move right there.
If Walsh returns to ’21 level and Fletcher to ’20 level and both are healthy which seems possible our infield defense on the right side will be outstanding. Rengifo has more power than Fletcher, but he can’t field well enough to be a starter. Rendon playing 3rd is better than the subs we had covering for him. SS is going to be a problem for us when it comes to the leather.
It is looking like Swanson is not flying into John Wayne anytime soon, so it will be interesting come ST to see how well Soto competes for SS position. Vasquez as we know is a Twin, so Stassi has to improve at catcher. BTW I would have paid the freight to have Vasquez be our half the time catcher.
Rengifo will imho be a very good back up at any place he plays as long as he is pulled when a relief pitcher is brought in if we are in the lead.
A couple of wild and crazy guys 😄
This report of Foxes hanging around Coors Field is a bunch of B.S. Everyone knows that all of the foxes hangout at the Statue of Liberty in order to pick up their birth control.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jNt7ZGCW-o
I remember listening to this on a road trip with the family.
I still sing along with Ballroom Blitz if it comes on the radio.
Only Andy Scott is still with us.
I still sing along with the Blitz when it comes on this site.
In fact I want to hear it a lot next season.
Have you ever seen a Foxes nipple tattoo?
https://youtu.be/eXhwQDIbvUg?t=177
i gave you a rec outta pity!!
😆
Hey Tude, At least I dont Rec my own posts like you do under the guise of a guest rec.
And you didn’t think we knew….
Isn’t Ursula our new utility infielder?
How the Hell is everybloody doing today!?
Sigh.
Tons of minor moves from tons of GMs that don’t care about chamapionship move making and don’t stir my needle.
Perry leaves me dead inside. He needs to make me a champyham sandwich but all he brings me is kirkland chips. Sadz.
I direct my disappointed at Shohei’s mom.
She sure should have had twins! 👀
She did. One could hit and one could pitch. They just never separated in the womb
Carrasco is available. I’d kick the tires and offer them Loup in return. They get a bullpen arm they’re familiar with and shed some money, we get a righty for the rotation with experience on an expiring deal.
Yeah, but latter game Tums sales @ Anaheim stadium would decline if we jettisoned Loup.
I know they’ve signed everybody but why the hell would the Mets want Loup back? Perry helped them dodge a bullet there.
Speaking of American Foxes…
Lucius Fox is now available.
We should sign him just because of that name.
Don’t tempt our stupid TV people into more bullshit Batman refs.
Congrats is in order for Blue Jays. Nice job again letting someone else beat us to the punch
A year ago we paid the same salary for a noodle armed Noah Syndergaard. Is your secretary typing up your resume yet Perry?
💩 💩 😡
I’m stoked we didn’t give a 34 year old pitcher 21 mil a year
I think you’re stoked that the incompetence and buffoonery goes on with our GM/chimpanzee. 80%er Nation sure keeps on manufacturing excuses for our inept FO.
💪 💪 💪
Still not a thing sad clown.
For 3 Loooong years.
So, when you do your IIWPM will it enlighten us as to how a 1 year 21M contract that we paid 2/3 of is the same as signing a 34 year old to a 3 years 63M deal?
WE
CAN’T
WAIT
TO
SEE
IT
so far we know he wanted Bassitt and Bellinger. I’m writing these down, we’ll see how they pan out. That’s over $40mil for those two. It doesn’t leave much room any other deals.
He’s still mourning Joc Pedersons taking the QO too.
Lets see I also show his Bro love for:
Sean Manea
Seth Lugo
Emilio Estevez
But Not too sure if Emilio is still available.
😆 😜 😆 😂 😍 💩 💩 😉 ……. 💪 💪 👈
He also has wood for Kyle Seager, Frankie Montas and Jeffrey Lunhow as GM.
Kyle Schwarber, Jorge Soler, Avisail Garcia….
Less Simien recently, but don’t forget SoCal native Shane Bieber who we terribly missed in the 2016draft.
Luhnow over anybody we’ve ever had in a heart beat
Sunshine. Also the Astros payroll never eclipsed $200M on his watch either. Trash cans or no trash cans. Ohtani’s the only SP we ever had since Jared Weaver and Jaime Baria to win 10 or more games. BTW didn’t Kyle Seager have a better more productive year than our own smiling and happy $30M+ white elephant?
I’ll see y’all at Mutt Lynch’s have a $100 meal LOL!!!
WILL YOU
HAVE A
COPY OF
YOUR IIWPM
AT
MUTT
LYNCH’S?
Can not wait to see it.
bASSitt. No thanks.
Of course!!!
😆 😂 😃 💩 💩
Is he OK yet, or did he fall while shopping at Cost Plus World Market?
Giants get Stripling. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/giants-sign-ross-stripling.html
I’m guessing Rodon will be a Yankee soon.
Same deal as Manea and Heaney even the opt out although Heaney can earn a shit pile of incentives
So does Lorenzen get a similar deal as these 3?
Rather have Sean Manea than Heaney or Lorenzen
He was a former Billy Beane Athletic not a Mor*no Angel which carries weight with me. I know garbage when I see it.
💪
Until we see your IIWPM you’re pretty much just a child who didn’t get enough air at birth making loud noises in the far back seat of the Angels Baseball Fanbase station wagon.
Someone get Tootie a graham cracker to suck on. He is so easily agitated.
How did that Trevor Cahill deal work for us?
no chance he gets a similar deal. Lorenzen didn’t throw 100 innings last year, and while Heaney didn’t either, he has a track record of being a starter.
Lorenzen is a one year, $6 million guy. He’s another hoper for the rotation based on if he can stay healthy and pitch more than half a year. I would enjoy watching him and I will root for him. But that’s the proper money level for him. He might not think so though.
Sounds right to me too…. trouble is Andrew Heaney just got 2 years 25M.
Good sign by the Giants. Farhan going the veteran route to add to Webb, Discalfani and Wood.
Yeah, Yanks need Rodon, bad.
Didn’t Webb suck?
Ask CB26 who said he does!!!
💪 💪 💪
I am asking you.
When are we going to see your IIWPM? I want you to put something down “on paper” that shows us all how you handle the same exercise we did…. but better.
That’s OK because we didn’t want him and Joc Pederson a few years ago.. Thor and Michael Lorenzen are way better obviously.
💩 😠
Where is your IIWPM? I need you to show me how smart baseball minds work.
😥 💩
Seems like a lot of money for a recent backup catcher with diminishing hitting and fielding skills. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/guardians-sign-mike-zunino.html
As opposed to Matt Thaiss?
Let me know when the next Josh Gibson or Johnny Bench is in sight.
Open your eyes Toots. He could be right in front of you.
His name is Logan O’Hoppe
We are all still waiting for your IIWPM where you show us all the moves YOU would have made that will open all of our eyes to how brilliant you are and how your “against the grain” Copernicus like fight against accepted wisdom and norms is founded on a Damascus steel sharp edge of wisdom and creativity.
Please, do an IIWPM so we can finally see that you’re not just a troll doll woven from old cat poop.
When some one says American foxes, if you don’t immediately think of Steve Martin and Dan Akroyd, get off my lawn.
I like the fox doing stretching exercises on the diamond. silly fox thinks he’s a baseball player but he can’t even wear a mitt.
It doesn’t seem like this three way trade benifits the Braves or move the needles much, but who knows what happens after? A’s surely did sell high after keeping Murphy longer than their other stars.
BB outsmarting AA?
I would also have loved Angels being in the Brewers position of that trade. Please Perry call your former boss to notify in advance next time.
I do believe Murphy is significantly better defensively than any catcher the Braves had on their roster.
Contreras does seem like a 1B/DH more than a catcher. I think Atlanta moved a bunch of junk to get the best player in the deal. Still, Milwaukee got a cheap middle of the order hitter for nothing. They look like a big winner here. Oakland got a pinch runner.
Murphy is a good acquistion. Braves are not scared to trade prospects.
Yeah, it’s the ol’ defense problem. At first glance I didn’t see Murphy as all that much better than Pina…. till I looked at all the defensive goop…. and also remembered how much a good catcher makes pitchers better…. ya, Murphy is better.
Even when we are aware of it, so many of us just kind of write off defensive value unless it’s Ozzie Smith.
HOFer since hitting doesn’t matter?
That’s what you took from my comment eh Corky? Bless your heart “The Joker”.
Oh, by the way, when did you post your IIWPM? Do you have a link? I must have missed it.
Defense should always be in the equation and acquisition process. defense is the difference in being a winner or not so much a winner. Last season with Walsh and Squid in games the infield “D” made a difference in our pitchers ERA and Whip. This season a huge difference maker would be Swanson because he is much better than Squid with the bat. I was so overjoyed when Eppler came away with Simba and his “D” was other worldly. I taught infield ”D” and worked endlessly on it and very seldom did the teams have losing records. I love great defensive players. Last season was a big fan of Squids because of how well he played the infield.
This season Renfroe will take us back to better RF play and Ward will be much better than anyone on the roster playing LF.
Walsh is one of the best fielding 1st I have seen in recent years. He goes back better than any ML 1st playing today and is outstanding saving runs with digging out bad throws.
Murphy will likely hit much better in Atlanta as the seventh best hitter there plus a better hitting ballpark.
Eh. Murphy hit’s fine, 2nd best wRC+ among MLB catchers. It’s just that most of us don’t realize that most catchers can’t hit. I just didn’t realize there was such a distance between Pina and Murphy defensively, even knowing Murphy is a good catcher.
Framing will go the way of the dinosaur after the auto umps take over. But this new limit on pick off attempts ( and even slightly larger bases) will have a profound effect on base stealing. Having a catcher that can’t throw out more than 25% of the base runners right now will be really no bueno for seasons to come.
After Tucker Davidson and Touki Tousaint, I hope Perry and Alex have a bitch fight and never talk again
Weare sneaking up on the Big Night and even Bigger Day, and no I’m not done shopping and may go to plan B, and purchase gift cards. 🎅 👀 Have yourselves a great time today and smile, you may be on someone’s camera 🎁 🎄 Fresh snow in the San Bernardino’s and just in time for Christmas, although we can always use more. ⛄ ❄ ☃
Do the owner rich teams, teams with unlimited funds ruin the stability and competitive balance of MLB? Do teams in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Oakland, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Denver, or Tampa and Cleveland really have a chance? Payrolls of over 300 million dollars are placing the game in jeopardy or should owners be allowed to spend what they want and try to buy a championship. Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Cubs, Dodgers, giants and LAA are buying up the top players for the most part. Fair or not?
Fair is definitely what I’d call MLB. There are about eight teams that consistently make it to the playoffs and the only way to win the WS is to be one of those teams. There is the rare instance of a KC like team winning it all but it is not the rule. Hard cap and hard floor is the only real answer.
There is negligence at the bottom and imbalance at the top. Take a team I like, the Pirates. I’d have to say that their last run at the play offs (2013-15) is about as good as they can generally get.
You can see the tightrope they were on, they needed weird good luck, like Liriano becoming good again, in order to compete. They were almost completely undone by trading Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow for Archer and the failure of Jameson Taillon to stay healthy and have an impact. Gregory Polanco falling off a cliff hurt too. If, in a black and gold dream, those four players had stayed and bloomed as Pirates along with Josh Bell, then Starlin Marte probably stays too and Cutch rides off into the sunset as a Pirate. If Jose Bautista starts to cheat as a Pirate, even better.
But poor teams don’t have the resources to recover when hardly ANYTHING goes wrong. So small market teams really have to work to keep a window open.
BUT. They aren’t really that poor. Why do you think the other owners are cutting the A’s out of the revenue teet? It IS technically true that even a horrible owner like Bob Nutting has the ability to go out and pay for that added star power the Pirates may need to get over the top and push for a title. He just didn’t. The Pirates have a pretty hot farm right now, so he may be getting another chance soon.
The fact is that we can never be sure because MLB teams don’t have to open their books (other than the Braves and Blue Jays I think) but it seems pretty clear that even small market teams make plenty of money. In some cases, their entire payroll is paid by revenue sharing. This is pathetic. You can see it’s pathetic because teams that play in veritable wastelands like Detroit and South Chicago will have high payrolls and still turn a profit.
I’d like to see a salary cap, even if it’s fairly high, just so that a team like the Yankees can’t just kick in an extra 30M for four extra wins to beat out the Rays. It would be good to limit the huge advantage in “garbage salary” that big market teams can take on.
I’d also like to see a salary floor so that Bob Nutting etc can’t be a total asshole. Also, obviously, revenue sharing is intended to help poor teams pay better players…. so make it all applied to payroll then. Payroll floor = revenue sharing amount received. Simple.
I also kind of wish there was a bonus pool built up that pays the bottom ten markets money that goes directly to their payroll if they make the play offs, advance in the play offs, etc. Also, maybe remove or lower luxury tax penalties on small market teams (if there is no salary cap) or give them an exception for “franchise” players they want to sign and keep. Find some way to help Cleveland keep Beiber basically instead of it being a near certainty that guys like him and Burnes MUST leave their teams if they want anything close to fair market value.
So, in short, the small markets need SOME help, but they also play at being more helpless than they really are. But that’s the reality, everyone huffing and puffing at their owners because they COULD technically just make less money and go whole hog is kind of stupid. They just don’t do that usually. So we need to find ways to encourage more limited payroll growth and remove the Mets drunken sailor powers.
