10-1 Victory Postgame

Walbert Urena versus Kai-Wei Teng.

In the first inning Urena fell into this pattern: strikeout, walk, strikeout, walk, strikeout. He threw almost thirty pitches. Zach Neto walked and then we had a strikeTrout. Wade Meckler hit into a fielder’s choice but Neto was safe anyway due to an error. Jo Adell walked to load the bases. Nolan Schanuel was hit by a pitch in the left calf. Zach Neto scored. 1-0 Angels.

Oswald Peraza hit a fielder’s choice to short to score Meckler. 2-0 Angels. Denzer Guzman struck out.

The Astros didn’t score in the second inning. Jose Siri struck out. Sebastien Rivero got a base hit and Zach Neto was hit by a pitch to put two men on for Mike Trout. He got a hit to load the bases. Wade Meckler doubled to the left side to make it 4-0 Angels.

Jo Adell doubled down the third base line to make it 6-0.

Nolan Schanuel got a base hit to send Adell to third with one out. Oswald Peraza grounded out to short to score Jo Adell. 7-0 Angels.

Yordan Alvarez got a single and Isaac Paredes got a one out hit by pitch followed by a two out walk in the third inning. He got out of the inning with no score but he was up to 72 pitches for three innings. Jose Siri struck out and Sebastian Rivero singled to the right side. Zach Neto flied out to right and Mike Trout hit into a force out.

Trey Mancini came in to replace Schanuel in the fourth inning. The Astros were retired in order. Oswald Peraza got a two out hit. Denzer Guzman was robbed of a double to end the inning.

Walbert Urena made it through 5 innings without giving up a run. He walked some guys. He hit a guy. Still, five scoreless innings is pretty good by Angels standards. Sebastian Rivero had a hand injury and Logan O’Hoppe finished his at bat. O’Hoppe struck out ending Rivero’s streak of seven hits in a row. Zach Neto singled. Mike Trout walked. Wade Meckler walked. Jo Adell struck out to end the inning.

A couple of innings went by without scoring and the Astros began sending in replacement players like it was spring training in the seventh inning. Collin Price got a two out single to right. Isaac Paredes got a walk to send him to second. Brice Matthews singled to score Collin Price. 7-1 Angels. The Angels did absolutely nothing with their half of the seventh inning.

In the eighth, Mike Trout reached on a fielding error. Wade Meckler walked. Jo Adell singled on the ground to right to load the bases with no outs. Trey Mancini hit a sac fly to make it 8-1 Angels.

Oswald Peraza singled to the left side of the infield to make it 9-1 Angels.

Denzer Guzman grounded out for an RBI and made it 10-1 Angels.

Jose Siri flied out to end the inning.

Oh God! Kirby Yates came in to pitch. He retired the Astros in order, though. Angels win 10-1.

I’m still really liking the contributions of stupid Perry’s Pile of Crap. It’s what I’d hope for from a team at the bottom of the barrel with a plan. All those guys we have at the bottom of the order, plus some arms like Urena and Bachman etc. Cheap. Controlled. Seem to be able to set a fairly solid roster floor.

I myself would trade Detmers, Soriano, Adell and Neto as soon as they have value. Pen arms too if any look good. Get a pile of prospects. Start mixing in guys like Moore, Guzman, Rada with the Frazier/Grissom/Meckler/Peraza types pile. Keep adding youth for a couple years….

If we had a plan. Hell, I even enjoy sucking and watching the asshats on this sight suffer ACTUALL horrible baseball…. as long as there’s progress towards a future. Alas, we will likely trade no one cause we are “almost there and who will we watch?”. But still, some “flyers” actually playing OK is nice.

A draft that makes some sense would go a long way towards making me feel better.

I’m not sold on Guzman at this level just yet and only partly on Siri. I hope they turn it on soon.

Wade comes through again, Adell is heating up and Urena is fun always dodging bullets. Neto and Trout each with one hit and one walk and both scored two runs. We may not be a great W-L team, but this team is fun to watch with all the new players. 😃

Meck stole the show, on base 5-times tonight. He was gazing at Erica during the postgame on-field interview. Careful Wade, that got Moniak traded
