Tough Loss Postgame (5-4)

Tonight we had Grayson Rodriguez versus Spencer Arrighetti. To look at the earned run averages, this was a mismatch, in favor of the Astros. Here are the opposing lineups. Welcome to the bigs, Denzer Guzman and Trey Mancini!

Nothing happened until the bottom of the second. Jo Adell was hit by a pitch.

Nick Madrigal got a hit to put two men on. Trey Mancini singled to score Jo Adell and advance Nick Madrigal to second. 1-0 Angels.

After a Donovan Walton strikeout, Logan O’Hoppe doubled to make it 3-0 Angels.

Zach Neto walked for a change. A wild pitch advanced O’Hoppe to third. Mike Trout walked to load the bases and bring up Wade Meckler. Meckler struck out. 3-0 Angels.

In the top of the third Yordan Alvarez doubled and then Christian Walker also doubled to make it 3-1 Angels. That was it for Houston scoring in the third. The Angels did squat. Nobody did anything of merit in the fourth inning.

Nothing happened until the sixth inning. Isaac Paredes doubled. Lamonte Wade Jr doubled and it was then 3-2 Angels. Cam Smith also doubled. 3-3 tie. Samy Natera Jr. came in to pitch and ended the inning without further scoring.

Zach Neto homered in the seventh inning to put the Angels up 4-3.

Everything was fine until Christian Walker singled off of Kirby Yates in the ninth inning to drive in Jeremy Pena who had walked. 4-4 tie. Logan O’Hoppe, Zach Neto, and Mike Trout all struck out. Sam Aldegheri came in to pitch the tenth inning. Brice Matthews bunted for a single and drove the ghost runner to third. Cam Smith struck out. Jake Meyers popped out to second and Altuve, the ghost runner, scored on an error by Logan O’Hoppe. 5-4 Astros.

Jose Siri doubled a shot to left field and Mike Trout was called out despite a review. Jo Adell struck out. Denzer Guzman flied out to left to end the game. 5-4 loss to the Astros.

At least I got a bobble head and cheer a great game for Mancini. Gawd, who the hell is going to pay money to see this lousy team vs Astros the next 2 nights??Talk about setting a Stub hub record for cheapest MLB tickets ever.

Can you find a new phrase please? That one has been beat to death and is just annoying now. Nothing witty about it.

Wow, get a load of this:

^basically Suzuki saying they signed Yates to be their closer. First off, that’s a lie. It was Romano based off track record and early season usage.

BUT…if it’s not a lie, that’s an absolutely moronic decisions of the highest order. Yates last year: 50 games, 41.1 innings, 38 hits, 24ERs, 9 HRs(!), 52SOs, 1.33WHIP, 5.23ERA. 3 Saves!

All with the Dodgers (didn’t make post season roster.)

This guy was actually worse last year than he currently is right now. And our GM gave him 5M…the highest FA contract this offseason…and to potentially close.

What an absolute dunce of a GM. Without a doubt, if not the worst in the league, the most incompetent.

Garbage

They should have signed Troy Percival.

Who broke Trout….again? For the month of June he’s hitting .087 with a .300 OPS?

Who broke Trout? Father time.

Trout is hitting .222. 7 of his home runs came in 6 games. The first two games of season and 5 in the four game Yankee stadium series.
Since starting 11-10 (hard to believe this team was over .500 after 21 games), their record is 14-32.

Brewers v Athletics has been amazing.

Wow we are terrible. Pitchers suck, defense sucks, trout sucks, arte sucks. Defense really sucks. Base running sucks. Coaching sucks. Ownership sucks.

The Angels have had 20 save opportunities this season and team total has six saves. 14 blown saves in 66 games.

Was hard for trout to touch home when the catchers knee was blocking him. I’ll disagree with that call. As for O’Hoppe, he must have taken his eye off the ball. The throw was in plenty of time

Catcher had the ball, and the right to block.

Unless tha camera person at Angel Stadium was named Zapruder, Trout certainly looked out and not attributable to the International Conspiracy of Umpires to Only Screw the Angels.

I can never get enough of that Kirby Yates. Suzuki is stuck in 2017.

Scouting report on O’Hoppe. He can’t hit, run, or throw, but….. he can’t catch.

Anyone know – is O’Hopeless the worst defender in the league? It’s got to be close.

Yes I posted in the the game thread. Him, Neto and Moncada are literally the worst of the worst. Trout not far behind.

This game was a case study for aspiring players. It perfectly displays why small things matter. The Angels win by a few runs if they had any grasp of basic baseball fundamentals.

Starting with #27’s error made at the wall that led to Astro run #1

Suzuki needed to get tossed there. Absolutely should have gone ballistic.
Doesn’t matter if it was right or wrong. He’s only been tossed once. Show your guys you have their backs and you want to win.

O’hopeless – press that ball. You backed up and made it an in-between hop.

He didn’t even get his body in front of the ball

He turned what would have been an easy hop into a bad hop. More freedom to react on the side of your body – so getting in front and blocking it doesn’t matter there to me- but he created the bad hop backing up. He’s out with a good defender. You lengthen in-between hops to make them long, he lengthened a press into an in-between.

He creates more “wild pitches” than any catcher I’ve ever watched.

One might say that he turned an O’Hoppe into a NO-
‘HOPPE.

Trout by far. Sorry but he is washed; can’t field or hit unless it’s a hr off a mistake pitch. And he’s only gonna get worse each year

GonFishin

I don’t think he’s washed. He was hitting the first 2 months and his defensive metrics grade as “average.” I think he’s legit lost motivation. This slide kind of started around the same time the as the chanting. I don’t have stats to back this up, but the eye test on him the last few weeks tells me a guy that isn’t engaged.

Just an eye test, but he looks consistently late. Starting to expand the zone again.

Totally agree. That’s why I’m getting tossed there if I’m Suzuki. I want him to know – I’m fighting for him.

I agree, I thought the same thing at that moment. It’s the bottom of the 10th and the crowd is actually engaged at the end of a game. What do you have to lose?
