Anyone miss the Devil Rays? I thought it was so cool to have Angels vs Devils in the AL and it was thematically interesting. Yeah, yeah, they were Devil RAYS, the stingray, but still. Even though it is a cooler name, their fans won’t want to go back as dropping the devil made them actually win.
What would be nice is if a name change would make the Angels win. The last time the Los Angeles Angels had a winning record was in 1964. I am serious. Since dropping Anaheim from the name, this team has not even won 81 games in a year let alone 82. even going back to the mocking “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” would be better.
It would also be better if the Angels SP can last long. Instead, Jack Knocked himself out early going only 2 and 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 1 and walking 4. The Angels being so utterly bad at ABS challenges did not help, nor were the umps willing to make it easy for them. Bullpen game it was, which is not a strength on this team at all.
Highlighted Recap
Things got bad early with a Ray’s home run
But the Angels rebounded and got gifted a run on a wild pitch to tie it
But things went south in the 3rd. Loading the bases, then allowing a hit is bad.
Walking the next guy is even worse.
Having to pull your starter is worst. Wait, no, what would be worst would be the RP almost getting out of it but allowing a grand slam. Which did not happen because Siri robbed the home run!
A bullpen game against the Rays and I am not feeling so good about this…
Yet, somehow, someway, it was still close, and it got closer with Logan’s home run in the 7th.
The bottom of the 7th was filled with bad luck as, SOMEHOW, Neto didn’t touch 2B when fielding a ball and thus there were no outs? Huh?
Which meant that instead of 1 on 1 out, it was 2 on no outs and yeah, that run came to score.
And a bases loaded walk brought in the other runner.
Down 5-2, the Angels tried to claw back in the top of the 8th, but a lineout double play squandered that.
The Angels tried again in the 9th, but alas, was not able to do it. Angels lose.
Upcoming
Angels head back home and face the Rockies. Road Rockies are horrible, so this is the Angels’ chance to disappoint us.
