Angels Battered and Bruised by Brew Crew

The 2025 Angels are a lot like a sparring partner for high level fighters. The sparring partner is a professional but not on the championship level and is there pretty much to take a beating so the real contenders can get ready for bigger and better things.

Usually there isn’t actual physical pain involved in baseball, but tonight Jose Soriano took a solid shot to the ribs that knocked him out of the game. I’ve been dropped by a good body shot before and give Jose props for staying on his feet and walking off the field.

Every cough will hurt for a bit. So will getting out of bed. Even turning over in your sleep isn’t fun.

The physical pain was followed by the usual scoreboard pain. Conor Brogdon came in and allowed 5 runs to score with 3 of them charged to Soriano, adding insult to injury.

5-0 after 2 innings was about all she wrote for the Angels.

Taylor Ward had himself a game with 2 home runs. He reached the 100 RBI milestone on the second dinger.

Milwaukee added a 6th run in the bottom of the 6th inning and took a 6-2 lead. Mills Lane would’ve called the game there but baseball doesn’t allow it. Jose Urena ran out of gas in the 8th inning and allowed another 3 runs to push the final score to 9-2.

The Angels will try to avoid a sweep tomorrow at 4:40.

The luck has run out and we are now seeing this team as it really is. The combo of strikeouts and run differential is such that this team’s record should probably be something like 20 games under .500. What we are seeing now is more reality based than when the team pulled off miracles like a season sweep of the Dodgers.

I hope Arte will refund my playoff strips payment.

Change starts with the fans. I hope people voice themselves during the final homestand. Bring signs, bring Arte in a clown suit photos, start a sell the team chant.

Don’t fall for the promotions, don’t be excited that your row gets free fruit cups for Melissa’s or an autographed Luis Rengifo ball. Enough is enough

How about stay away. It’s the only message Arte will hear. A fan with a sign is a paying customer.

The most effective way is for fans to not show up.
Sure, Angels will still get money from TV and the like.
But, if no one shows up = loss of money from tickets, food/drinks, parking, gift shop
As a bonus, don’t watch the games. Ratings will drop.

14 Ks, so they surpassed their minimum daily requirement of 10! …. again. If they don’t fire their hitting coaches and whomever came up with their offensive strategy, then they are idiots, and we will be in for more of the same futility for years and years to come.

Recap of how bad Minasian’s teams have been in September. This year, no different.

2021 8-11
2022 7-20
2023 9-19
2024 7-19
2025 5-11 (ten games remaining)

You really put it in perspective, their play is September is wretched, and as become the norm. An aggragate of 36-80. Wow. So many reasons, seems like a lot quitting when September rolls around.

To be fair, come September it’s the angels minor league team and 1 year vet fillers usually playing these games.

Went to the Yellowcard concert instead of watching the game tonight. Looks like I made the right choice.

We were 49-50 which I’m sure we all remember. Since then we’re 20-33. How bad is this stretch? Well extrapolated to 162 games we’d be 61-101 so not so good

The illusion was the pre-all star break performance. The team is now performing consistent to the Pythagorean projection.

Same every year Eric. At some point we all need to realize it’s all an illusion until reality sets in.

Great write up and analogy to sparring/championship caliber JJ.

Ward have 100 HR to get that 100 RBI?!

Go Brew Crew.

It’s actually insane to see how long it’s taken him to get to 100 RBI with his HR number.

The Angels rookie middle infield tandem of Moore and Guzman were 0-for-7, all strikeouts.

Are they the vanguard or the rearguard of the Angels Style?

I like to see them get more opportunities.
For Moore, he’s only played 43 games.
Guzman has played just this week.

Way too early to tell.

Just for reference:
Trout’s first 43 games: 0.209 BA, 28 hits (134 ABs), 5 homers, 16 RBIs, 20 runs scored
Moore’s 43 games: 0.190 BA, 24 hits (146 ABs), 6 homers, 14 RBIs, 20 runs scored

Guzman’s first 4 games: 0.250 BA, 3 hits (12 ABs), 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
Trout’s first 4 games: 0.154 BA, 2 hits (13 ABs), 0 HR, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored

Not saying Moore or Guzman will be Trout.

But, again, I would like to see Angels give Moore and Guzman 3-4 full years in majors, before deciding what to do.

If Angels can let Jose Suarez be on the team for 6 years, and Rengifo for 7 years, surely, they can be patient with Moore and Guzman for several years.

Soriano took that line drive off the forearm, not the ribs.

I hope we can have a 500 season within the next twenty years. And maybe a playoff win.

At this rate, the deadbeat dad in Angels in the Outfield would never have to come back to his abandoned kid.

Nice! I have the honor of attending our last 4 straight home playoff games. 2 in 2014 and 2 in 2009.

I did not get to see the Angels in the playoff’s from the first game they ever played until ’79 where I saw both of their play-off games their first playoff win and their 3rd loss. Then in ’82 saw them win the first two games against the brew crew. And finally 86 the three games at home the first two wins and the heartbreaker loss. After 86 moved to northern california and have not gotten the chance to go to any Angel play-off games.
