Postgame Victory 8-2

The first Angel on base was Taylor Ward who was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Jo Adell singled to send Ward to third with no outs. Logan O’Hoppe grounded into a double play that scored Ward. 1-0 Angels.

The Nationals singled in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings. Unfortunately, the hit they had in the fifth was a homer that tied the game.

Jose Fermin replaced Kyle Hendricks in the sixth inning and mowed them down. Newman got a hit in the bottom of the Sixth but Rengifo hit into a double play. Ryan Zeferjahn came in for the seventh inning. He gave up another run on a walk, a steal, and a single. 2-1 Nationals.

Zach Brzykcy came in to replace Mike Soroka. Mike Trout welcomed him with a homer to tie the game at two all.

Taylor Ward doubled to left. Jo Adell singled. Then Eduardo Salazar was brought in to pitch. Logan O’Hoppe struck out for the first out and they brought in Zach Neto to hit for LaMonte Wade Jr. He popped out. Christian Moore singled and Taylor Ward scored to make it 3-2 Angels.

Kevin Newman homered to make it 6-2 Angels. It’s nice to see the Nationals real bull pen showed up today.

Luis Rengifo chipped in a double. Nolan Schanuel walked to bring up Mike Trout for the second time in the inning. The Nationals brought in Ryan Loutos to face Trout. Mike Trout walked this time to load them up for Taylor Ward. Ward also walked. 7-2 Angels. Jo Adell grounded out to end the seventh inning festivities.

Reid Detmers came in to pitch. He coughed up a quick single to James Wood. That was erased when Luis Garcia Jr. hit into a double play. Nathaniel Lowe walked and Josh Bell doubled. Fortunately, Brady House grounded out.

Now the Nationals brought in Jackson Rutledge to pitch. Gustavo Campero pinch hit in what was Zach Neto’s spot. He homered. 8-2 Angels.

Sam Bachman came in to put a bow on the game. Damon Lile singled and made it to third on a couple of ground outs. CJ Abrams lined out to end the game. Angels win 8-2!

Apparently he’s part-Vampire and hates playing in the sunlight.

I think he hates playing in the Anaheim sunlight. His day/night splits this year favor day games but his numbers at home are much worse that on the road.

Great game for Newman. Easily his best as an Angel.

Series is tied. Would be real nice to win it tomorrow.

Amen. Win another series.

I found an enjoyable loop hole to my wanting the Angels to fall out of the play off chase so we make trades. How’s about the Angels stick at .500, maybe even a little better, through the deadline, but “sadly” another couple teams I like, say the Rays, Royals and Guardians, get really hot and just kinda leave our scrappy asses in the dust? I can be happy for those teams, and even happier that the Angels are doing well….

Then we make trades, and shockingly, the Angels aren’t too bad off. They lose a few more games in August and September, but the kids keep getting better and fill some holes the trades made. Season is still fun….

Happy 2025. 2026 will be even better. 2027 we win four titles in one year. Perfect.

That’s the conundrum I face as an Angels fan. I want the team to win now and make the playoffs, but that will require trading away from a threadbare farm for players that may not be on the team past this season. I also want the team to build for the future and that means trading players that our important parts of our success to get future assets. I suppose the scenario you outlined is the closest to having my cake and eating it too as I can get. Of course, even the fact I can think about the playoffs at this point is a big improvement over last year.

I would like playoff baseball the next five years. This is fun to watch now but when more years of ten games under .500 occur, won’t be fun anymore.

A lot to be said about pitching tonight. After that blow out last night, expected a train wreck.today. But here comes old arm Hendricks.. Does enough to cool hot Nats bats. Fantastic. Opening day, fest my 12yr old son yelled to him; Kyle how do hold your sinker? He came over and took my son’s hand and showed him the grip. Unforgettable, even if he’s lost a bit and not the best of the best, always his fan. And he grew up an Angels fan, period.,

Trout with a homer, a walk and a K. We’ll take that all day.

Rengifo has been better of late.

Hendricks is one of the best ROI FA in a while.

Newman is POTG though. Good for him.

Entertaining game, lots of surprises as we continue to see the yuts hitting well, Hendricks could have gone another inning maybe, but the pen closed it out.
