Angels Win 6-5 Postgame

Kyle Hendricks versus J.P. Sears.

And the Angels fielding alignment:

In the first inning Brent Rooker doubled and Tyler Soderstrom walked Max Muncy singled to drive in Rooker. 1-0 Athletics. In the third inning Brent Rooker homered to make it 2-0 Sacramento. the only Angel with a hit in the first three innings was Mike Trout. Four Angels did draw walks.

In the Fourth inning, Luis Urias doubled and then made it to third on a fielding error by Taylor Ward. Max Scheumann drove him in with a sacrifice fly. 3-0 Athletics. In the Angels part of the fourth, Mike Trout hit his second single which was also the second hit by the Angels as a team. It led to no scoring.

The Angels had eight strikeouts through the fifth inning and the score remained 3-0. In the sixth inning, Kevin Newman singled and so did Zach Neto to bring up Nolan Schanuel with two men on and no outs. Schanuel struck out. Grant Holman came in to pitch to Mike Trout who walked to load the bases with one out for Taylor Ward. Taylor Ward was hit by a pitch to drive in Newman. 3-1 Athletics.

Jorge Soler knocked in a couple of runs with a gounder through to center field. 3-3 tie.

Now Osvaldo Bido came in to pitch. Travis d’Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Taylor Ward. 4-3 Angels.

Jo Adell homered to drive in himself and Jorge Soler. 6-3 Angels.

Luis Rengifo singled. Kevin Newman hit his second single of the inning. Zach Neto flied out to end the inning.

In the seventh inning, Max Schuemann walked and Brent Rooker homered (again) to make it 6-5 Angels. This homer was off of Ryan Zeferjahn who was replaced by Brock Burke shortly after giving a single to Tyler Soderstrom. Neither the Athletics nor the Angels scored any more runs this inning. Connor Brogdon came in to replace Brock Burke for the eighth inning. JJ Bleday doubled but Brogdon retired the next three guys in order.

The summary of the bottom of the eighth inning is as follows: strikeout, walk, strikeout, strikeout.

Reid Detmers came in to close out the ninth. He did so on ten pitches, eight of which were strikes. The Angels won 6-5.

Kids are looking like they are figuring things out. Gotta say this season might not be the gothic horrorfest a lot of us were predicting. Mind you, I’m seriously happy if we get over .500.

If the youngsters keep playing well but we lose 86 or something I’m still happy. I think if that happens we head into next year at least ready to give most teams a run for their money.

If you ever hear the song the bot is from you might not smile so much. It was popular when it 1st came out, got played out and you never hear it anymore. Guy who made the song was kind of a fool. And the song is Kind of a Joke nowadays. But CtPGs loves the dancing bot.

My brother took his grandson to the game for his 6th birthday and caught a foul ball for him. He texted me in the 6th, mocking the Angels offense. I told him that the A’s bully sucks and that it was still early. Nice to be right…once.

At the game today. Observations:

1.) Recognizing balls & strikes from the stands is a fools errand and I had good seats.

2.) Trout is a DH. Period. 2 singles and a walk

3.) Ward was awful today. Thankfully a W masks the stench of his performance.

4.) Jo Adell. Very Nice )Borat voice). Two pitches prior to his jack, he murdered a ball for a foul. I told my wife, he’s locked in. Boom. I’m Nostradamus.

This team had moxie. Playoffs….,,?????….

Playoffs?
Playoffs?
(cue, Jim Mora, Allen Iverson).

There are 5 teams (not counting the 3 division leaders) with better records than the Angels, all vying for those playoff spots.

If the Angels had above average fielding and pitching, then, I’d be more hopeful.

But, hey, you never know.

Great post game. I didn’t catch a single second of the game.

Adell is on fire right now. The team’s resurgence is being led by the kids but the vets are proving to be a decent supporting cast. Jansen has been key in winning several games, Soler had a big hit today.

Currently on track to win 80. Not shabby in a retooling year/decade.

I know its only Philly KC Oakland Sacramento BUT the Angels have beaten or held their own this year against some pretty good teams:

I show series victories this year against:
St Louis
Tampa
Toronto
Cleveland
San Fran
Seattle
(and of course) the sweep of the DOYERS.

This is a far cry from the last few years.

Agree. In the past few years we even struggled to beat Oakland — that is why this big 7-0 out of the gate against them is so important. It also now gives us a winning recod against teams in our division !

On the flip side,
the last place team in the AL East took 2of3 from us in Anaheim
the last place team in the NL East took 2of3 from us in Anaheim
the last place team in the NL Central took 2of3 from us in Anaheim
and that will continue to frustrate and haunt me.

We catch a lot of squirrels trying to snag grub from our trees in my backyard. Said tree rats then have to wait by the car till we feel like taking them out to the wilderness to free them. They always bang on their cage and warble and chirp at us the whole way like they’re gonna kick our asses.

The angels are squirrel tough right now. Are they truly a beast? No. But they’ll squabble with anyone who wants to try them.

Tree rats…I like it, I will use it and never once give you credit. I actually brought a pellet gun to work today for my gunsmith friend to fix. Chip and Dale have exhausted all of our less than lethal options.

As a musician, I am in awe of his creativity and foresight in leveraging technology in new ways. It was good to see him receive as many accolades as he did in recent years. Genius is often overlooked until after it’s gone.

Pet Sounds was followed by Sgt Pepper’s which was followed by Her Satanic Majesty’s Request. It was a great period for music, and I don’t think has been matched.

Sgt. Peppers = one of the most overrated albums (probably IS that) of All-Time. The Rolling Stones might be the most overrated band of All-Time.

Maybe the album is overrated, but I can’t think of another that had a larger impact on the culture or music industry as Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. As for the Stones, I wasn’t much of a fan while growing up, but I’ve come to appreciate them over time, and I far prefer them to most of today’s popular music.

Very early Stones had some good stuff …. but to me that were never any good past 1965 and certainly not after Brian Jones died. I agree with what Roger Daltrey said about the Rolling Stones :” If you really listen to them they sound like an average pub band.”

Totally true.

As for Sgt. Peppers’s it was media created myth… yeah some interesting sonic innovation going on as far as recording techniques etc, but that was happening back on “Revolver” and those things were more attributable to people like George Martin or the Engineer Geoff Emerick than to The Beatles themselves…

People talk about Pepper as “the first concept album” but nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing about that was a “concept” album. There was no story, no thread or discernable theme throughout. It was in fact what Dylan said it was “incredibly indulgent.” And it was vapid as well.

If you are looking for the first concept album you would need to go forward a year to 1968 with “The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society” which is infinitely more creative, engaging and inspired than the piece crap that is Sgt. Pepper’s.

The Kinks were the friggin shit. Kind of like Eric Dolphy, Ahmad Jamal and Clifford Brown in jazz. Sure, they were big enough for folks to know the name, but they were secretly as good or better than THE STARS. Or Dyke and the Blazzers in soul music.

Well, we won again. One game short of .500. We’re in 2nd place now. 3.5 back of Houston and 2.5 back in the WC…. for what it’s worth. Time to worry about angels fans enjoying themselves again.

FAN is short for FANATIC guy can start doing that weird shit where he swears he wants a rebuild…. but that doesn’t mean we have to trade guys and shouldn’t avoid adding talent for a post season run this year. I’ve never done this as of yet. Does your nose bleed when you try to make this make sense?

Sad donkey still gets his hay. Hendricks is meh. We didn’t get many hits. Wash is making decisions. Detmers is still in the pen…. can totally bitch about that as hard as we bitched about him even being on the team a while back. Outfield is ugly. So is Rengifo. Plenty of meat on the bone.

But hey. Home wins baby! The kid core is stepping up! Monster Jo Adell! Is Detmers a wasted draft pick if he becomes a solid closer? This team is far less boring than the Ohtani teams. Come on O’Hoppe! Ride the wave of positive juju baby!
