This time the Mariners only got one run in the first inning. They were doomed.
The Angels went three up three down. We’ll get them later, I guess.
Nobody did anything until the fourth inning when Mike Trout hit a two hit single. Taylor Ward then hit a home run to make it 2-1 Angels.
In the top of the fifth, the Mariners got a one out single by Randy Arozarena. Mitch Garver chipped in a single as did Jorge Polanco. 2-2 Tie. Donovan Solano then singled to score Mitch Gaqrver. 3-2 Mariners.
Nothing happened until the bottom of the ninth inning when pinch hitter Jorge Soler got the first Angels walk of the game. Matthew Lugo replaced him as a pinch runner. Zach Neto struck out. Nolan Schanuel lined out to right. Mike Trout struck out. The Angels lost this one folks. Oh well.

Angels executives: we might have a chance to make the playoffs.
Angels hitters: Not so fast!
18 strikeouts, 1 walk – while facing a pitcher with 0-3 record, 8.56 ERA.
ooof!
You were too quick to dismiss Kirby because of his slow start this year. What you overlooked is that he is a pitcher with quality stuff and good track record in his career!
For example last season he pitched to a 3.53 ERA and 3.26 FIP. He also had a very impressive WHIP of 1.068. His career FIP is 3.26 and career WHIP is 1.101. He doesn’t walk people, and he didn’t walk a single Angel yesterday !
Good pitchers who are struggling usually figure things out, and often they figure it out against us! If you follow the Angels you should know that !
Is Kimbrel the next cross your fingers pick up off the scrap heap?
It would not surprise me and something I would find very unsettling
Whenever we make life tough for a division foe, it is so nice. The Mariners lost a series to us-Suck it Trebek!!
I’m thinking that the signing(s) of Taylor and now Gamel are a tacit acknowledgment that Trout is now the full-time DH.
They need warm bodies to roam the OF since we don’t have much in the farm that is big league viable or ready.
That’s a big 10-4 good buddy!
We took the series-Churn the page.
Angels sign Ben Gamel to Minor league deal.
Perry collecting OF’s.
July’s roster starting to take shape
Today’s loss is on Jeff for jinxing it by mentioning the forbidden word “sweep.” Sharing the blame with him is Phil for also mentioning a sweep and also importantly suggesting that we’d have our way with Kirby.
Shame on you Phil — you need to learn the unwritten rules of preserving team mojo.
Angels trade for Wade from giants
Giants just DFA’d him and signed Dominic Smith who just got released from the Yankees. Perry is sending cash to his brother, Zach but doubt if it is the full $3.1M owed or a PTBL would not be required. Struggling this year but can work a count.
Perry continuing to collect misfit toys that were rejected by struggling teams.
It doesn’t move the needle forward in a meaningful way, but it at least shows Perry talks to his family members.
Taking 2 out of 3 from the Mariners is a good thing. Dipoto will now be looking to execute some trades after losing 2 of 3 to The Angels.
We always beat them before the AS break and then they always kick our ass after it.
Winning a series is good. HOWEVER, when the game you lose is the final game it always takes a little shine off the series victory, as the chance for a sweep was lost.
UCLA advances to Omaha.
YES!
Series win.
It’s always possible to execute trades even without a lot of assets.
