The Angels and the Mariners are almost the exact same team. Seriously. Long suffering teams who constantly fail, waste the biggest names in the sport, and keep looking back at the turn of the millennium when things were great. Just one gets a rainy PNW while the other has sunshine.
Anyway, Tyler Anderson pitched today. He went 6 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. It is yet another not good start against a team that shouldn’t be any good yet here we are again… At least he got that no decision. Somehow.
The real tragedy though is Mike Trout getting injured again. As if April really had to twist the knife. Seriously, I hate this month. So much wrong, and suffering, not much joy. And while Mike Trout wasn’t quite himself this year, learning a new position and not hitting often, he still has 9 home runs. So…
Highlighted Recap
Trout got a hit in the 1st, maybe his last hit of the season the way injuries has worked with him this decade
Logan drove in the first run soon after, although Trout was stranded at 3B.
Too bad Tyler Anderson gave it right back in the bottom of the inning
And he gave up another run in the 2nd
Soler tied it up though in the 3rd, his 5th Home run of the year
Too bad the Angels defense goofed and allowed the 3rd run in the 3rd.
But Neto got in that 3rd run in the 4th by beating out the double play. See, hustle.
And in the bottom of the 4th, Nolan made a good catch
Pain
Detmers came in for the 7th and things went off the rails. An infield hit, a defensive mistake on a bunt, a passed ball, and a single past the pulled in infield got 2 runs for the Mariners.
Julio double just rubbed salt on the wound
And another one because why not?
Well, Detmers is done for now. He didn’t even get an out. He loaded was pulled for Ryan Johnson. Yes, Detmers with 0 innings pitched, 4 earned runs on 5 hits, and left responsible for 1 more. He got that 1 more ER just to kick him when he was down when a missed strike 3 call led to a fluke single and 2 more runs coming in.
The Angels lose their 9th straight road game.
Upcoming
Back home with 4 vs Detroit. May should be better for the Halos. I mean it gotta be one of these years, right? Seriously, the Angels do not leave California again until May 30th. Home games, at San Diego, at Dodgers, at Sacramento. That’s May. An easy travel schedule after that disaster of an April.
