LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Eder Time

The Angels acquired Jake Eder from the White Sox for cash and designated Michael Peterson for assignment.

Here is the MLBTR poll about who will win the AL West. They stopped short of saying the Angels had no chance.

The White Sox outrighted Dominic Fletcher to Triple-A Charlotte. I wonder how David Fletcher is doing with his knuckleball. The White Sox also re-signed right-hander Dan Altavilla to a minor league deal. The Pirates acquired Alexander Canario from the Mets for cash.

The Brewers placed Aaron Civale on the 15 day IL with a left hamstring strain. Colton Cowser has a left thumb fracture and will miss 6 to 8 weeks. Gleyber Torres went on the 10 day IL with an oblique injury. Jurickson Profar just got an 80 game suspension for performance enhancing drugs.

Brave News World

The Braves acquired Stuart Fairchild from the Reds for cash. They also selected the contract of Jesse Chavez and DFAd Hector Neris. In further Braves news, Reynaldo Lopez is on the 15 day IL with shoulder inflammation.

Rafael Devers Watch

He’s 0 for 19 with fifteen strikeouts at the time of this writing. Not to worry, Alex Bregman’s OPS+ is 50.

There comes a time:

Zach Neto is batting leadoff and DHing for the Salt Lake Bees in tonight’s game.

It’s one game people. One game without Paris. It will likely mean we don’t make the play offs, but that’s true of the sun coming up as well. Calm down.

4 games in, we’re 3-1, and you’d think the world is falling apart.

I wouldn’t keep Paris out of the lineup either, but let’s see how everything plays out.

I’d play Paris too. Jeebz guys, it’s not like Washington cut his hands off or something. BU BUH BUT… but nothing. It’s just not that big a deal.

Sure it’s only one game Gitch, but this is why we’re here because we’re interested and are rooting for success. We’re likely not going to win many games, which is why when some of us feel like we’re not actually giving the team the best chance to win, we say something. It’s not a big deal, but as a fan, it’s very dissappointing as position player wise, Paris is the biggest reason to watch the game right now since pretty much no one else is doing anything.

I’m stupid, so I didn’t see any of that. wow.

Oh wait, nope, it’s still lame as fk to be this upset over Paris not playing game 5 of the season. Other guys need ABs too and only nine guys can play at a time. And “But fanboy doesn’t feelz electric” isn’t a reason to sit a guy for several games in a row this soon.

I bet Paris plays again sometime in the next twenty games at least. I bet the team still sucks too. I bet this bullshit is why we can’t have nice things. We shit ourselves and the gods are grossed out.

I mean, Anderson is a career .317 BA against LHP. I get the start. But I’m more of a “what have you done lately” kinda guy. Oh well.

I don’t understand going with Moncada though. Career .713 OPS against LHP.

You tellin me starting Heefy at 3B and Paris at 2B isn’t an option? Come on. You need Paris’ Eiffel Tower bat in the lineup right now.

Wash refuses to play Paris in the infield. Apparently he does not trust Kyren to play any infield positions .

It would appear that Wash is being way more restrictive on who he is allowing to man the infield positions this year and based upon watching the infield to date I have no complaints other than the season opener when Rengifo looked clueless at third base.

JackFrost

Yeah, Wash knows infield defense, so we have to believe he has good reason/s for this. That said, you have to have Paris’ bat in the lineup, esp. with how we are hitting right now and what he is doing…

Roy Hobbs

And so Wash, representing the team, has decided that Paris is no longer an infielder, so now you have a log jam in the OF. Meanwhile, on a team that is trying to develop our young players, we are sitting our 2nd best one right now after Neto, and since Neto is hurt, we’re sitting our current best performing young player. Let’s not straddle the fence, let’s have a plan for what we’re doing and stick with it.

Or maybe, just maybe, Wash is trying to pick spots to set KP up for success rather than throw him into the deep end and see if he sinks or swims. I’ve read enough complaints about the team doing the later so this could work out. I mean, Paris has 10 PA this season, and I can’t argue with the results so far.

It totally make sense that you wouldn’t want to play a natural infielder in the infield. They should definitely only play him in the outfield.

Yeah, I hear the Traditional Baseball Wisdom lefty/righty stuff, but when a player is totally thermonuclear En Fuego like KP, you should play him. Respect the streak, miniscule as it is.

Only it’s not miniscule. It’s literally going on 3 months at this point where KP has been our best hitter. I think it’s inexcusable to sit your best hitter who without him, you would not have won thew last 2 games. Almost no one is hitting, we can’t score runs, and he has HR a 3B and 2 BBs in the last two games, so let’s sit him. It isn’t funny, it’s just plain stupid. You know I am not a big Schany fan, but he hit the two hardest balls in his life yesterday. I understand that Rengifo hits RHs really well, although he has not hit anybody lately so I sort of get that switch. It would be fine if other guys were hitting but they’re not. Apparently we’re facing a lefty so it would make sense to hit Paris 2nd.

Really, who doesn’t like Paris in the spring?

I would have enjoyed seeing his name in the lineup but let’s not abandon hope. A great Spring training against a mix of real big leaguers and marginal prospects, then few good days doesn’t have anyone in Cooperstown mocking up his plaque. Baseball seasons are a long grind and sitting Adel too much longer gives him another excuse to fail. Wash needs to see what he has/doesn’t have and move on.

My eyeball test says you’re probably right. The big but here is that do you really want Adel filling a roster spot in August if what we seen so far this year is real? I think Adel is probably not the guy but how do you really know without him playing for a bit? I’m not opposed to Adel as a fourth outfielder but he still blocks other guys with potentially more upside.

Adel has had his shot in previous seasons and mostly missed to execute in my opinion. Taking the next call from the Braves is what I’d recommend since the Angels almost always call me with that kind of stuff.

If Wash really isn’t going to play him in the infield, Then the Angels have a decision to make. Send Soler back to the Braves and let Paris and Adell play CF and DH every other day so they both hit every day, Since Trout doesn’t want to DH. Is it really about playing and evaluating the kids or not. If you need to keep Soler, then you need to make a decision between Paris and Adell, or trade Ward. And no decision is a decision, and just slows down the rebuild.

Hot take. Anderson’s change up, which is important to him, was not working for shit last night. That won’t always be the case. His velo, such as it is, was normal. So he will probably eventually bust that ERA of his down to a mouth watering 4.something.

Let’s hope he does it soon. We need trade bait and Rengifo’s not lighting the world on fire while Paris is, I am still thinking, gonna take ABs from Tim Anderson even if it’s second hand while he plays OF. On the flip side, it gets easier to trade Ward now.

I don’t think the trades I’m dreaming of happen until after the draft, but man I’d love it if we made at least one move to get a comp B pick before the draft. Moar Kidz.

Reply to  FungoAle

Aren’t most “trade the guy who is desirable but we can’t keep” trades done at the deadline? I mean sure, I can cherry pick a few that weren’t and there’s the whole off season. But is it even all that easy to find trade partners before the deadline is at least close? Made even harder if your trade candidates suck or get hurt? Or if you aren’t allowed to trade away good players because it will make your unicorn angry?

How tight is the needle the Platypus has to thread with his flippers before he gets a thumbs up from you?

I like Anderson in the rotation until one of the minor league kids kicks down the door and perhaps longer. He eats innings and generally keeps you in games. The Angels lack of depth has been a huge reason why recent seasons have tanked.

Most of his issues were early and even though he’s a veteran, he’s still subject to first start nerves.
