NCAA Top prospects week #5

For some on this list, it may be their last feature for a couple of weeks until he and his team can figure out how to win some ball games after being so highly rated for this season.

Jace LaViolette has not had the start to the season that we all expected and I did not think that I would ever be saying this but I may have to stop covering him if he doesn’t start putting up some serious number because other players are. Here are Jace’s weekend stats. Friday: 2-4,1RBI and 1BB, Sat: 0-3 with a BB, and Sun: 0-4 with 1K. I am very shocked about the lack of production from Jace and his team, I hope they figure it out because I do love Jace and was expecting a lot from him.

Moving on to Jamie Arnold, after not pitching last week Jamie had a decent start, 4.2IP 1 Hit, no runs, 2 BBs, and 8K’s. Jamie’s strike-out numbers continue to go up week after week and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being the first pitcher off the board come the draft. I am not sure why his outing was cut short, could’ve been the sickness he was battling the week prior, although it could’ve been pitch count, he did finish close to 80. I expect to see Jamie on the mound longer this week.

Going down to our SoCal boy, Tyler Bremner had another quality start this Friday, 6IP, 4 hits, 3BBs, and 8K’s. I feel bad for whoever has to decide between Jamie Arnold and Tyler Bremner, both are outstanding arms and have been playing their tails off for their respective teams. Tyler has been very solid all year and looks to be getting more comfortable every start.

Now for a new addition to my series, I haven’t talked about him at all this year but some people need to know the name because he is having a great season thus far. Pitcher for Tennessee, Liam Doyle has great stats to start the year and is working his way up the prospect chart. I’ve heard a few say that he could end up being the best pitcher in the country when it’s said and done but We’ll just have to see. Liam’s final stat line this week wasn’t his best but his performances earlier make up for it. 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 2BB, and 6K’s. Oh and not to mention he has a sub-1 ERA through 25IP and has racked up 53k’s so far. Letfy tops high 90’s…..

Stay tuned for weekly updates on the best players in college!

I think that’s good, takes some of the air out of the balloon about Arnold being taken 1st. I stil think he is the best option from the mound.

That Tennessee squad is so stacked. I can’t them in tv last week and wanted to draft half a dozen of them.

I’m still Team Arnold but plan on seeing Bremner in person next Friday.

Doyle sounds great but I’m petrified of picking a pitcher- so many examples- that Dodgers pitching coach is a familiar face.

no risk, no reward I suppose- it would be nice to have a big #1 ace LHP.

Current dream draft, week 6 (still keeping the dream of a trade for a CBA pick alive):

#2 Jamie Arnold LHP (college)
CBA: Andrew Fischer 3B (college)
#47 Quentin Young 3B/OF (prep)
#80 Robbie Burnett 2B/OF (college)
#106 Matthew Dalquist RHP (college)
#110 Logan Lunceford, RHP (college)

Glad Liam Doyle’s getting some love – he’s a bit like the Garrett Crochet of this draft. Fireballing lefty whose fastball overpowers collegiate hitters but whose secondaries and command could use refinement. He’s definitely pitched his way into at least the middle of the first round, and deserves to be in the conversation with Arnold and Bremner.

Also worth watching as potential #2 picks with those three: Weihiwa Aloy, Marek Houston, and still, Ethan Holliday.

Always with a FB-dominant lefty, though Doyle’s slider is a lot crisper this year so far.

Two pitches, when one is a potential 70-grade left-side FB, will get you far, but most scouts feel Doyle’s longevity as a starter will depend on him developing at least a league average changeup.
