LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Tater Trout

Mike Trout homered yesterday as the highlight of a rather ugly game. In the ninth inning, a bunch of Angels destined to be sent to minor league camp exploded for three more runs and made the game a little less embarrasing.

The Nationals will re-sign Kyle Finnegan to a one year deal. Kumar Rocker sucked yesterday, so maybe the grass is not greener on the Rangers side of the fence.

The Yankees will not be playing “New York New York” after they lose anymore. Maybe they will give “Buttercup” a try.

Sammy is always looking for the worst in baseball and when he finds it, he pounces.

it was a good article in TA so he’s too busy for us thankfully.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/44041172/ex-twins-minor-leaguer-derek-bender-denies-giving-away-pitches

this guy has no future in this game and needs to move on in life. Hope his parents can.

Ron Washington said that Zach Neto will not be ready for Opening Day but should be good to go “soon after.”

Neto threw from 60 ft yesterday, a step up from the 45 ft he’s been throwing at.

So skip the first road trip? Hope that is it.

It’s cool. As long as they don’t have any news like “stopped throwing” or “can’t really swing a bat” I’ll be happy.

Does anyone know if he’s been hitting? I had shoulder issues and know other guys who did and the hitting was a different issue from throwing. Swinging a big wood stick around violently was a bit different as far as how it made things hurt.

Either way, if he’s missed the first two weeks of ST games before he’s ready to try things out he’d need some extra time before he’s ready to go, so this isn’t a big deal.

I was hopeful about this signing but I am losing my hope. Still love the signing overall though, smart move.

Hopefully he unlocks things over the next few weeks.

It’s a great signing, even its for just ST.

Yeah. If you know you want to trade Rengifo at some point and Neto is likely out for a little while why not load up on bodies, some of which may work out even if most won’t? If we did the opposite I’d be mystified.

Prediction – next guy up on the Rockies after this guy pitches in a real game and does this gets plunked. Might happen from multiple teams. I doubt this lasts like the article predicts. This is so bush league.

Policing celebrations is beyond lame. More emotions = more fun.

There’s a difference between emotions and showboating. If I wanted this – I’d watch Banana Ball. It’s either entertainment or a sport. If the greatest game on the planet isn’t exciting enough for people, go watch Banana Ball. The Globe Trotters were entertaining to see once or twice. After a few years of the same schtick, it was boring. I just saw a clip of Banana Ball where the infielders did tricks on a ground ball. Third baseman dribbled it between his legs, first baseman caught it behind his back. Runner didn’t run to give them time to pull it off. That is what we’re becoming and the direction this is headed. Manfred thinking of this stupid rule to allow a hitter up whenever you wanted him (and seriously considering it).

To your point… emotions are great, spontaneity is great. But it ceases to be spontaneous if you do it every time. Becomes rote and confrontational, performative. Before long he’ll be “corrected.”

Exactly. Just let it go. It’s gonna become an “Oh. We’re still doing THAT thing?” moment soon enough.

I like a lot of the unwritten rules and how they reinforce sportsmanship in an old school way. I want to see the competition, not the lates dance or bat flip that you came up with. MJ never said he was the greatest, he doesn’t have to.

MJ is just an asshole that demands YOU say he’s the greatest. He was also a show off. Would I enjoy a league that’s all Stan Musials? Maybe. But they always had Dizzy Dean and Satchel Paige types too. I would hate baseball if it was “like MJ”.

I AM all for emotions…. both sides of it. If a guy wants to party, let him do it. If a pitcher wants to throw at him, fine. If a guy wants to crush a grand slam and then run around the bases cool as ice and never even acknowledge “the moment” or the other team like a stone cold assassin, sounds good. Let the Dodgers be Microsoft while the Mets have Grimace at their games. Let the A’s have their annoying RF fans and Angels fans have their thunder sticks (someday). Let Ellie De La Cruz look like he’s having fun even when he grounds out and Yordan Alvarez scare me. It’s good.

Calm down Max. I’m pretty sure we aren’t headed to Banana Ball. I love baseball. I also enjoy the other 3 major sports and… baseball IS boring. I still love it, but I’m also willing to admit that some annoying clowns like this guy or the stupid hat the Angels had a couple years ago is fine if the general vibe of baseball changes to where teams like the Mets have more of a feel of a Caribbean Championship etc. If a large number of people are having a good time there will always be some douche you have to just ignore. It’s OK.

Especially this guy. He’s a Rockies pitcher. Just hit a double home run off him and then conga around the bases…. then remind him he plays for the Rockies. There can be a lot of pointing to the scoreboard after this guy does this.

His teammates will likely ask him to stop after a few reminders of the score.

Yeah, his team should be having a talk with him soon. If that was a Halo pitcher that would end up an ACL injury. There’s no need to roll the dice unnecessarily on an injury for such a stupid reason.

This point I agree with. First thing that came to mind was “there goes his ACL”, not “well, time to throw at his teammate”

After incidents like Kendrys Morales’ homerun pounce at home, and Bellinger’s high-five injury, teams really need to reel in their players. The amount of games played already lends itself to injuries, unneeded stupidity ups your chances.

seems a little extreme to remove fun because of a 1 in 100000 incidents but to each their own.

Thing is, when he does get hurt, or gets crushed because he’s exhausted from dancing around, it will also be fun.
