Over the weekend the Kenley Jansen deal became official. Anthony Rendon and Robert Stephenson were transferred to the 60 day injured list.
Tokyo’s Yakult Swallows signed pitcher Pedro Avila. The Pirates signed Tommy Pham. The Braves signed Buck Farmer to a minor league deal with a spring training invitation. Luke Maile got a similar deal with the Kansas City Royals. Shelby Miller got his with the Diamondbacks.

we were talking about Trent Callaway, of Oregon State. Through 4 games he’s hitting .471 with a 1.088 OPS. He’s also fielding 1.000. Yeah, 8 chances. But that .471 is only the 4th best on the Beavers. They’re 4-0 already. Shortstop Aiva Arquette is hitting .538 with a 1.513 OPS. Jacob Krieg, a big 1b, drove in 7 today.
Should be fun watching this team this year.

The World according to BorAss with AJ Asshole and the gang. It gets Angels interesting at the 25 minute mark when Rendon’s injury is discussed. BorA$$ then brings up retirement settlements unprompted in the discussion. I am not aware of any contracts he has renegotiated that involve player retirements where the player did not get the whole contract. I believe he represented both Strassburg and Prince Fielder and neither one gave the team any break. Even of he wanted to I doubt the MLBPA would be very happy about this.
Considering Arte’s history of being against deferments I doubt he would agree to something like this unless it was a really good deal for the ball club. So poor Anthony hell have to continue to show up for his rehab sessions and join the club for homestands.
Hopefully theres a deal to be made here. Not sure where Rendon is living these days but if hes going back to Texas he’d be wise taking a payout with deferred mailbox money to avoid paying the EDD’s tax rates by living here.
Since Cheap Evil Arte has adopted this annual bitch session on how much money hes now losing every season not sure it really matters one way or another anymore.
Trout could do as Harper did to save on wear and tear, move to first base. Be honest here, his arm is not a RF arm, at least give it a try in ST, Mikey might like it.
You wanted it
you got it

Good news. If he gets back to health his stuff is great.
Is it just me or does it feel like our minor league depth is by far the best it’s been in a long time?
And I don’t mean the prospects, I mean the plethora of MLB veterans that could come up and not be a complete liability.
Well I thought that same thing as well last year, But I think you are definitely right on this one TB . The overall talent and depth is much better at pretty much every position and level in the organization.
Of course looking back it’s been so baaaad we should expect annual incremental improvements.
Not sure tbh. Depends on the validity of said veterans, and we won’t know how reliable they’ll be until forced into action.
Theoretically? Sure, I guess.
The strongest part of depth resides in our pitching pipeline. That’s where things get most exciting to me.
I won’t post mlb.com’s entire piece on Arte, but will share a couple quotes that Fletch’s story didn’t include:
“I’m really happy with the way it’s going,” Moreno said. “Perry has done a good job, Wash is really focused. I like the coaches. Just sit and watch these young guys throw bullpens and where they came from and what programs they came through. And we have a second baseman [No. 68 overall prospect Christian Moore] who just won a championship in college. You have to continue to put up good building blocks. And then the reality is being able to supplement everything.”
“And so we were looking at starters and we’re looking at bats, but starters are multiple years for $30 million. So the question is, ‘Do we have enough depth to go pay $200 million?’ And [Anthony] Rendon has two years left on his deal, and he’s obviously not going to play this year.”
“I can’t objectively comment on someone’s health and how they’re going to be health-wise,” Moreno said.

Arte giving lip service to player development?!
I’m shocked.
Right?? The evil billionaire, who is the bane of my baseball happiness, said something I agree with. Bizarre.
Who would have thought Perry would end up being the Arte whisperer.
Hoping it’s more than just lip service though. I would prefer it would be closer to an edict.
Indeed.
Every move made since we lost Sho has supported a rebuild and renewed focus on player development. It’s most definitely not just lip service.
Nice. Sounds like he’s on the rebuild plan while we wait out Rendon.
The Angels finished the season with 12 errors in the last 15 games. I just don’t buy into the “Washington is the defensive Svengali, and creates great defensive players.” I don’t think the stats back up that mantra. Arte likes Washington as the manager because his contract was cheap.
Who was playing in those games? I went to a game towards the end of the season, and half the players are so far down the depth chart now (or gone), it was even tough to explain to the kids. Wagaman, Kavadas, Campero, Lopez
What idiots. SI’s take on Trout’s position change?
https://www.si.com/mlb/phillies/news/philadelphia-phillies-dream-addition-possible-mike-trout-changes-positions
SI is mostly AI generated garbage at this point.
A shame. They USED to be good.
Once a year they are great

What a life.
They did. There was always an issue on the coffee table in my living room growing up.
Just another victim to the enshittification of damn near everything.
once upon a time they were great. 1960! For example, they did a pre-Olympics issue that highlighted *every* event and mentioned the favorites no matter what country they were representing. Before the games started I knew the high jump would probably come down to the USA’s John Thomas and the Soviet Unon’s Valeriy Brumel or Robert Shavlakadze. You don’t get that kind of depth now. It’s all USA! USA!
That is about as close to a non-story that you can get. Nothing there but trying to start rumors. This certainly is not the days of SI and Frank Deford.
Emperor Arte speaks 👁👁
TEMPE, Ariz. — The Angels have been losing on the field, and now they are going to lose off it too.
“We’re going to lose money,” owner Arte Moreno said on Monday. “Probably lose $50 million to $60 million, minimum.”
The Angels’ longtime owner spoke to reporters before the first day of full-squad workouts on Monday, and he said that the team was in line to finish in the red, which was the reason he declined to invest any more than he did.
Moreno said the Angels are going to lose money because payroll has gone up in 2025, and also because of a variety of revenue shortfalls in terms of television, sponsorships and ticket sales. The Angels also pay $25 million a year into Major League Baseball’s revenue-sharing system by virtue of being one of the largest markets, Moreno said.
Moreno did increase the Angels’ payroll from $176 million to $202 million — according to Roster Resource — but they did not sign any of the year’s top free agents.
“I was not interested in spending $200 million,” Moreno said. “We needed too many things to spend $200 million.”
Moreno said the Angels were interested in some other top free agents, but they never were able to agree on a price tag. The only one he mentioned by name was right-hander Nate Eovaldi, who re-signed with the Texas Rangers.
He said the Angels wanted “a middle-of-the-order bat, but the economics and the years didn’t match.”
Moreno nonetheless said he is optimistic about the future because of the Angels’ young players.
“I believe ’25 is going to be a fun year to watch these guys play, and some veterans,” Moreno said.
The Angels lost 99 games last season, their 10th straight season missing the playoffs. Although they added veterans around the roster, the largest contract was the $63 million, three-year deal for Yusei Kikuchi. Many fans have come to blame Moreno for the team’s failures in recent years. Moreno acknowledged that he is ultimately responsible, but then quickly pivoted to saying that he has done his part.
“At the end of the day, it’s probably me,” Moreno said. “I can spend the money on (Mike) Trout, but I can’t go in and bat for him. I can spend money on a pitcher, but I can’t tell you how his health is going to be or whether he’s going to keep us in the game or are our guys going to hit?
“At the end of the day, is somebody going to come in here and spend $100 million more? Is it going to make a difference right now? They have to pick the right players and you’ve got to be healthy and they’ve got to play together.”
Moreno, 78, has owned the Angels since 2003, and the first decade was mostly successful. Since then, the team has struggled and Moreno has come under fire. He briefly considered selling the team in 2022, but he pulled the team off the market early in 2023.
Moreno said on Monday that the team is “not for sale right now,” and he provided some insight into what happened a few years ago. After the deal between the Angels and the city of Anaheim fell apart amid a corruption scandal involving the former mayor of Anaheim, Moreno found himself being connected to the scandal. He said there were reports that he was being investigated by the FBI, and those wore on his family.
“I end up answering more questions about that deal than the baseball stuff,” Moreno said. “It just wore my family to the point where they asked if I would sell the team.”
Now that there is a new administration in Anaheim, the Angels and the city can explore a new deal, but nothing is imminent. The Angels recently picked up an option to continue their Angel Stadium lease through 2032. Moreno said he’ll continue to spend $5 million to $7 million on upgrades, but there seems to be no sign of a major renovation upcoming.
“I’m not going to put $200 million or $300 million into a stadium that the city owns,” Moreno said.
Moreno contrasted the situation in Anaheim with the one in Tempe, where the Angels and the local government split the $20 million price tag for upgrades to the player development facilities. Moreno said there are plans for a similar renovation to Tempe Diablo Stadium, although those may not be complete by next year.
NOTES
Shortstop Zach Neto has been cleared to begin his throwing program. General manager Perry Minasian said it was earlier than the Angels were expecting, although there was still no firm timeline on whether Neto will be ready for Opening Day. …
The Angels met for nearly two hours in advance of Monday’s workout. Manager Ron Washington said there were lots of speakers, ranging from Moreno to the front office to the coaching staff and including players. “It was awesome,” Washington said.
“Everybody in there had something to say, and it was quite educational. It was quite heartfelt. And now it’s time to get come out here and take care of business.”

The worlds smallest violin is playing and crying for Arte Moreno losing money. Go complain to somebody else Arte.
Meanwhile his family is generationally wealthy due to the franchise valuation. Arte could lose $50mm a year for 20 years and still be way ahead.
Good, maybe he will sell if the team is really losing money.
Looks like the Fansince1971 boycott is bringing Arte to his knees
😂😂😂
We shall overcome!!
Keep the financial pressure on!
I recall Arte had a $3 billion, 20-year contract with Fox Sports back in 2011. Bally Sports inherited the contract and remained in effect as of last season, according to an LA Times article. Then, in an MLB.com article “Angels to broadcast games on FanDuel Sports Network”, the new broadcasting deal won’t affect the payroll for next year.
Arte made out for 13-years under that FSN deal. This season is his first time letting fans know he’s in the red.
Maybe being in the red actually wakes Arte to stop meddling in FO operations because he is the reason why the Angels are in the red now.
Drills baby drills
Today pics – was there early but the only thing going on was Yoan doing some light drills and MLB interview CMo.
they didn’t hit Fields till 11am. Base running and PFP.
I do not think Geefy is in the best shape of his life.
is Geefy hefty?
I feel like I can’t really tell in the photos with that hoodie he’s wearing. He’s always been kind of stout and compact though.
Royals. Keeping their brain trust in place….
Dana is comically muscular. He’s 21!
That really isn’t that muscular to be honest. He is definitely solid but not hugely muscular.
I thought the same. I mean my are tris poppin.
Beg to differ. His neck, shoulders, and chest are extremely broad. Kid is a tank.
He is the alpha dog of this staff – make no mistake – and may not open the year in Anaheim
Yeah maybe by the 1875 definition but not by today’s standards.
QB1

Dana has such a baby face
The circle of baseball life. Trout’s mentor Torii Hunter moved to right field to extend his career, now Trout is doing the same. I’m willing to bet the two have discussed the move.
With weather like today’s the hopium is high. Adell looked decent the last half of last year and Moniak has the wheels for center. Let’s see what the platoon pulls off.
Storylines:
Adell vs Moniak
Detmers vs Silent C vs Dana
Blair field was amazing yesterday. Showed up 2 hours early with 5 lbs of 20 hour smoked pulled pork, plenty of Coors Lights, Bloody Mary bar, and a host of other foods at the tailgate. Sun shining, perfect weather, and the sound of balls on bats in the air. Baseball is here folks…. let’s get ready!
Nice. Sorry I couldn’t join you yesterday but I will soon.
Sun Devils opened strong and swept 🧹🧹🧹 the OSU
I just saw this today. Perhaps the rest of you saw it yesterday and discussed it…I’ll go look at yesterday’s comments but man, oh man…
“According the the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, owner Arte Moreno opted not to get injury insurance on Rendon – or any other player. It is a relatively common club policy, one that Morerno has in place to avoid incurring additional costs.”
Penny wise, pound foolish.
My exact thoughts… even was thinking about making that very comment.
Really? Do you know how much these unique type of policies cost?
I would imagine the cost is based on the age of the player and his injury history, much like standard heath insurance, no?
I’m sure age and injury history is a factor but comparing health insurance premium calculations to insurance policy premiums to payout for a professional athlete making $38 million per year is apples and oranges. It’s not regulated so I’m sure they’re expensive .
Lloyd’s of London level stuff.
I’m in insurance and the only time they would cosider writing this would have been at the beginning when the contract was signed. Once its in place, it’s highly doubtful or finacially worth it to go after insurance.
If Lloyd’s would even consider it, they would have asked for 40-60% of the contract as the premium for it. So it wouldn’t be worth it at all
Thanks for the insight Biggiswrth.
I don’t know anything about this stuff, so I’m gonna go ahead and voice my strong opinions about it because confidence is better than intelligence!
Obviously Arte is too stupid to do math! He hires laid off Britannica sales guys as accountants so they don’t make him feel dumb! This circus is a joke! CHEAP! EVIL!
yes and what Rosenthal goes on to say in the same article is:
So apparently alot them billionaires are pound foolish
I assume if you were to insure all your big contracts it comes out to the cost of a decent free agent every year so I can see the thinking. But yeah if I lived through Rendon and Trout I’d maybe reconsider going forward.
I knew a guy who worked for the Rangers and once asked him about this on a big contract they signed. He said they didn’t do the insurance because it’s VERY expensive and also hard to get a pay out. You don’t just throw your hands up and declare a guys hurt and then they send you 20M dollars cause a guy is on the IL for the year…. it also sounds like there are a bunch of hoops that the FO, med staff and player have to jump through.
I dunno if that’s always the case. But he said that the Rangers, at the time, basically have a “scariest max payroll” type idea that factors in their cheap players, players they may need to replace injured players, and paying injured players with huge contracts and the teams finances are built to handle that.
This was like 10 years ago…. so don’t know if they are the same way now with guys like Seager….
Yeah that’s what I’ve always assumed. The insurance company isn’t just going to cover the cost based on a team doctor’s assessment. And once a guy like Rendon became a known lemon I suspect the insurance would be an insanely big number by the time youre into year 6 or something (if you go year to year….or do you insure the whole thing up front?)
Zach Neto has started his throwing progression, Ron Washington said.
Not throwing it all out yet, but that process has begun.
Perry Minasian said this wasn’t expected to start until later, so Neto is ahead of schedule. He declined to provide a timeline though.

He will be starting Opening Day. I saw him throw- a bit more heat than I expected
Apparently the Angels made the decision on the choice of corner not the 🐐 ?https://x.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1891554077449806138
That is a nice honest admission by Wash. Clearly Wash sees the limitations. He could have twisted the narrative to avoid stating publicly what we all know.
Can someone screencap? For some reason,my computer won’t display that page properly.
Ron Washington said the Angels picked RF instead of LF for Trout because RF is smaller at Angel Stadium. They think his arm will be fine in RF if he’s aggressive.
-Fletcher Tweet
2B – Rengifo
RF – Trout
LF – Ward
DH – Soler
1B – Schanuel
SS – Neto
C – O’Hoppe
3B – Moncada
CF – Adell
Ward or Soler will probably lead off. I dont think Rengifo will see much time there except maybe against Left Handers
My thought process was putting speed (Rengifo, Adell) in front of Trout and giving him some protection (Ward, Soler).
You are probably right, because Wash said he’s gonna put Trout-Ward-Soler in the top 3 (order tbd)
I think this the right 9
Welllll…. looks like everyone’s a HR threat, sort of. Like most teams, if everyone there has a “good healthy year” and a back up or two like Moniak and Newman are also solid then you have a “contender” I guess. Such is life with so many wild card slots. Once Ward and Rengifo are traded this is about as cheap a team as we’ll get with plenty of space for those kids.
How much you wana bet the draft is a pile of college position players?
Maybe we will see an Adell and Moniak platoon or partial platoon in CF. Mickey hit 13 of his 14 HR against RH pitching last year and Jo hit .245 with 8 HR in 98 AB against LH pitching …. it makes alot of sense.
It does, but you aren’t factoring in my extreme bias towards Adell.
Jo was a completely different hitter when he abandoned the leg kick for the toe tap. I want to see a full season of that.
The more Moniak is in the starting lineup, the more losses we will have.
Moniak as your 4th OF isn’t bad. As your starting Cf, we are in trouble. Both guys are on make it or break it years but I think you are right that Adell get’s first crack at CF
But.. but… #1 overall?
Yeah, I do definitely want to see Jo get alot of ABs which would mean he plays a good number of games against RH pitching. That is why I said partial
platoon. No way Mickey starts every game against RHs…. But once in a while to get Jo off his feet in CF, yeah, I could see that.
Thats an interesting take P12. based upon media reports I believe Jo abandoned the tap on July 30th. Here’s his numbers before & after:
Thru 7/29: .192/.265/.384 95 Ks (29.1 %) & 25 BBs ( 7.7%) in 326 PA’s.
From 7/30 on: .248/.320/.451 31 K’s ( 24.8%) & 10 BBs (8.0%) in 125 PA’s.
Much smaller sample size and the strikeout and walks didnt change dramatically but the batting average and on base went up dramatically without really affecting his ISO power numbers .
Also I checked Moniak over that same period 7/30 to season’s end and here is what he hit:
.244/.294/.480 40 K’s (29.4%) & 6 BB’s (4.4%) in 136 PA’s
Again small sample size but much better than the horrendous numbers he put up in the beginning of the season. I just dont see him getting on base enough to make him get more playing time even though his ISO numbers are better than Jo’s . Now of course Mickey is left handed which I think gives him an advantage over Jo but his platoon splits are horrendously worse than Jo’s So maybe we see a soft platoon with Mickey getting starts primarily against the tougher right handers?
Appreciate you pulling the numbers, CB!
Mickey’s OBP just won’t get it done. Purely anecdotal from my end — Adell consistently put up better ABs than Mick last season.
Both guys have the pedigree, so let the best man win. And the best man will be Jo 😇!
That last third of a season, where Jo showed an improvement based on an adjustment he successfully got coached through at the MLB level…. that’s why I want to see more Jo. If he holds that AND gets a little better because of experience? That’s a good OF with an .800 OPS. I dig that.
Alot better then last years
Best part about MNT’s announcement was his attitude is right…pun intended.
I agree that having Trout make the announcement was the right way to do it.
The Angels will try just about anything to get back some semblance of the player who used to be good for 30-plus homers and an OPS over 1.000 every year.
Even when he played around the injuries in 2023 and 2024, the numbers weren’t up to Trout’s standard. He hit .252 with an .860 OPS in 111 games in the past two years.
To that end, Trout is looking to do more than simply remain in the lineup. He said the Angels showed him some video while he was hurt last year and it illuminated to him the way his swing had changed. He said the change affected his swing decisions, so he was chasing more pitches out of the zone, and not walking as much.
“It was a move I was doing that over time I created,” Trout said. “It was a bad habit.
Just trying to get back to where I was when I was getting on base and having a good strike zone.”
Trout also said he’s lost “a little bit” of weight and now he feels “a little lighter. I feel faster. That was one of my goals coming into spring.”
Trout said he took notice of a recent MLB Network ranking that listed him as the 39th best player in the sport.
“I saw that,” Trout said with a smile. “They’re going off the last couple years. I haven’t been out there. That’s their ranking. I know where I stand.”
Trout said he still views himself as one of the best players in the game, and now has even more motivation to get back there.
“Stuff like that fires you up a little bit.”

Mike! Mike!Mike!!Mike!Mike!
What day is it Mike?!
Arte is here. Everyone look busy.
Impatiently waiting for today’s drop 🙇🏼♂️
This is good. BUT, what are they gonna do about the Ju Ju? I haven’t looked yet, but I bet as I scroll down there’s gonna be a bunch of real men of baseball already saying they’ll be shocked if he plays 80 games and that it’s scientifically impossible for him to play 140 etc etc. Begging for an oblique strain and six weeks off.
There’s no reason he can’t play a full season. He’s 33, not 43. He’s not had “Rendon Injuries” either where he’ll have a back hurting a hip hurting knee all making him swing weird, making him hurt a wrist etc. Nothing that should be chronic other than maybe knee pain (hope not). He’s an all time great player, but can the unstoppable force of his greatness contend with the immovable object of Realz Angelz Fanz limp small dick energy? We’ll have to see.
I recommend listening to a lot of James Brown and being around Corgis regularly while watching at least one stand up comedian per week. MVP. When needed maybe mix in a listen to Isis’s Oceanic album and watch some turtle races or something that inspires a sense of true victory.
Ya but does he still have kids? They’re what has impacted his swing the most.
I can vouch for this.
My swing went south too after the kids came.
So, I am placing the number of games over and under played this year by Mike at 125.5… This would include any appearance such as pinch hitting or pinch running. I would still firmly be in the UNDER camp.
It has been six years since Mike has played 130 games…. Unfortunately I don’t see it happening this year either…
I would take the over on that. Injuries rather than chronic problems like back or knee issues have sidelined him, so unless Trout starts running into outfield walls, I see him as putting in 140 to 145 games with judicious time off.
If you want to take the lower number of your two I will put money on the under. I am okay with $50 and I am okay with $100 if you want … If you just want a friendly wager for bragging rights I am okay with that as well .
Wait. So you can now set your own Over/under and then bet against it?
Man, I love these new MLB gambling rules
I have to set the number myself because it does not exist with any book I have seen ….
Since I’m one of those federal employees that may be forcibly retired soon, making a bet would not be in my best interest, so I’ll gladly wager bragging rights with you.
Under.
$10,000,000,000 Ippei Bucks on the under…..100% winner and I have already plans on how to spend the money.
125.5? Crazy number…I would make the same bet if it was 81.5.
It would be foolish to think he will remain healthy. And that’s based on the assumption he isn’t already hurt.
With that said, looking forward to watching this young core develop.
81.5 is too risky… Since he will be in RF and l suspect DH as well it would be logical to think he will stay on the field more. But, I am like you in that I will have to see it to believe it.
Calf muscles exploding while running the bases, wrist injuries running the bases and check swinging a bat, back issue he has…..CF or RF, not going to change much.
All plans going forward, rebuilding, rebuild, and rebuilding.
Anything he can contribute in RF, CF or DH’ing is icing on the cake.
I’m looking at this a bit differently. Trout is eager to reverse the slide to mediocrity and will likely do anything to stay on the field this year. He’ll play through discomfort as he knows this could very well be his last chance to salvage the back 10-years of his career. I’m with Born N 59, 140+ games.
I’m hearing Secret claims that he’s in the best shape of his life…..again.
I’m a life long loyal fan, will never leave/divorce them, I’m staying together for the kids. It’s all about kids. Maybe Trout will get a “ride along” playoff trip in a few years. And if he bounces back, and stays healthy, FANTASTIC!
Trouts new workout, weighted balls.
https://x.com/Rainmaker1973/status/1889940890564829465
I would take the under even if set at 100 games. I think if the Angels get 100 games out of Trout this season it is a win.
Regardless of how many games he actually plays, this is still the right move. He should play and produce more than he would have.
Jo Adell, superstar CF, coming to a ballpark near you. 🍿 🍿 🍿
I like Mickey… but … I need 140+ games of Jo in 2025. The Adell Era is upon us!
I like Adell. Regardless of his nomination of a GG, going back on the baseball and getting jumps is still a work in progress.
Whether its Jo or the Mick in center, Taylor Ward will be still be a wild adventure out in Left field
No argument here. Ward seemed more comfortable in RF but that is not saying much.
But he did run into a wall in RF which caused him to miss a bunch of time when he was in the hottest hitting stretch of his career, so there is that ..
Amen. I think Jo can play a passable CF. He’s fast enough, has a solid arm too. I think he got the defense monkey off his back too. With his raw power, if his BABIP just levels out and he also cuts his K’s by a little more he could hit around .230 with an OPS in the mid-700s… that’d be nice and it’s not miles away from where he is now.
If something totally clicks with him and he gets more power into more hits, or goes the other way more for more OBP (which he actually did for stints last year) or something, then he will be a stud. But baby steps. If he plays a good enough CF and has an OPS above .700 I’ll be fine with that.
Shouldn’t be discounted that Jo started as a CF and we moved him to the corners. Doubt going back to his natural position will be anything other than a huge positive.
A Star is Born ft. Jo Adell coming to the big screen this year.
Agreed. I saw him play CF as a prospect and his reads and jumps looked pretty natural. Looked to me like it took him a while to start dealing with spin in the corners.
Free Jo!
The “Adell Era” reminds me of an Adell song “Cry Your Heart Out”.
